Miranda v. Arizona (1966)
▪ Ernesto Miranda was arrested in 1963 and charged with
kidnapping and rape based on circumstantial evidence.
During police interrogation, Miranda confessed to the
crimes. However, Miranda was not informed of his Fifth
Amendment right against self-incrimination nor his Sixth
Amendment right to counsel. His confession was used as
evidence against him in court, and he was convicted and
sentenced to prison.
