Bengaluru: A BMTC electric bus driver in Bengaluru has sparked outrage after being filmed using a mobile phone while driving through the city's busy Lalbagh Road. The video, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral, drawing widespread condemnation from passengers and commuters alike.
In the footage, recorded during the city’s rush hour, the driver can be seen scrolling through his phone while navigating through intense traffic. However, the authenticity of the video could not be independently verified by Times Now.
In response to the incident, Bengaluru Traffic Police took immediate action, tagging the Basavanagudi Traffic Police Station on social media, urging them to investigate the matter thoroughly. The video has prompted several users to share similar stories of witnessing careless driving behaviour by bus operators in the city.
This incident follows a worrying trend of reckless driving by BMTC bus drivers. In 2024, another alarming video surfaced, showing a BMTC bus losing control on a busy Hebbal flyover. The bus mowed down two bikers, injuring them, before crashing into several cars. Though no fatalities were reported, the bikers were taken to hospital for treatment, and the incident raised serious concerns about bus driver safety and road discipline.
As the investigation into the latest incident continues, the public remains concerned about the safety of passengers and other road users.
Here's How Netizen Reacted
“What about auto rickshaw drivers? They keep two mobiles—one for online bookings and calls, and the other for watching videos while driving. I’ve seen it with my own eyes at many signals and on the roads,” a user said.“This is nothing. Come to areas like DJ Halli, KG Halli, Fraser Town, or Shivajinagar, and you’ll see auto drivers making video calls while navigating through heavy traffic,” a second user commented.
