Motivation
[edit]This new Wikidata property related to politics (Q22984475) would improve our coverage of the United States Senate (Q66096). Thierry Caro (talk) 16:55, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]Notified participants of WikiProject United States. Thierry Caro (talk) 16:55, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
WikiProject every politician has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead.. Thierry Caro (talk) 13:11, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support David (talk) 09:14, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose 138 is too few to justify a property. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:41, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: are there guidelines somewhere on what a reasonable number would be to deserve a property? I had a brief look but couldn't find anything relevant (I don't have a particularly good internet connection atm, though, so could easily be missing something.) It seems like it would be useful to connect these up in some way: would you be recommending described at URL (P973) instead, or is there something else more suitable? --Oravrattas (talk) 19:33, 29 August 2018 (UTC)
- Nothing written down; but from past precedent the bar seems to be set at a few hundred for external iDs. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:47, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

- Neutral really low usage possibility, but why not to have it if it is used Masti (talk) 13:21, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Masti: It would definitely be used since Template:Public life links (Q55718146) is well deployed (2,500+ articles right now) on the French Wikipedia. Eventually, all the people covered here would be covered there. Thierry Caro (talk) 13:34, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support In the absence of a minimum requirement for number of IDs in the source, this seems useful to me. --Oravrattas (talk) 11:40, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose I'd like to see some evidence there's going to be some longevity or comprehensiveness to this project. 138 is a low number for both a property and as a percentage of people who have been a US Senator. Gamaliel (talk) 01:42, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support It seems to be a decent, high quality database, although low in numbers. --Kristbaum (talk) 15:23, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per Pigsonthewing. And for guidelines: Rule of thumb is 1000+. In this case I would just use described at URL (P973) Multichill (talk) 15:33, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
