Form - I as per EIA Notification, 2006 for
Kunustoria Block (Dobrana, Dhasal & Bamanbad seams) UGP,
Kunustoria Area, Eastern Coalfields Limited
FORM - I
(I) Basic Information :
Name of the Project :
Kunustoria Block (Dobrana, Dhasal & Bamanbad seams) Underground Project,
Kunustoria Area, Eastern Coalfields Limited.
Location/ site alternatives under consideration :
Kunustoria Block islocated in the central part of the Raniganj Coalfield about 20 km.
east of Asansol town. The Block is well located in respectof accessibility and communications
by roads and railway lines. The broad gauge Andal loop of Eastern Railway
passes through thecentral part of the block. Raniganj- Suri Road orginating from G.T.
Road (NH-2) near PunjabiMore passes through the western part of the block
andmakespartof western boundary of the block. TheHaldia - Barauni petroleum pipe
line of India Oil Corporation running NW-SE passes through the south-western part of
the block, Please refer Plate - I.
The Kenda seam presently being at Kunustoria colliery has been fully developed. The
present coal production is approximately 650 TPD. As this is a thick seam (8 to 9m), so
depillaring is being done by sand stowing resulting in lower productivity, Keeping this
in view, to enhance the coal productionand life of the mine, it has been decided to exploit
the virgin seams occurring below Kenda seam. This propsal is for exploitation of lowr
virgin Dobrana, Dhasal & Bamanbad coal seams having workable thickness over the
entire area. No alternative site has been considered.
Size of the Project*:
Capacity :
0.195 TPD Existing + 0.54 MTY Proposed = 0.735 MTY Total
Lease Area :
The Kunustoria Block occupies an areaof 450 Ha. The block considered for developed
of Dobrana, Dhasal & Bamanbad seams occupies an area of 320 Ha and is fully covered
by the leasehold of Kunustoria Colliery under the administrative control of General
Manager, Kunustoria Area, Eastern Coalfields Ltd. The land requirement for sinking of
two shafts, construction of service buildings, coal handling plant, approach road etc.
works out to about 6.5 Ha, which is danga land falling within the existing leasehold.
Mine life : 37 years
Length of coal transportation route :
Coal transportation is proposed by Tipping Trucks from mini CHP to Kunustoria Railway
Siding at a distance of about 0.5 km within the Block boundary. Fruther transportation
is by Rail.
8.3 Could the project be affected
by natural disasters causing
Yes Storage, trnasportation & handling of explosive and
POL may lead to explosions, spillages, fires etc.
Safety measures stipulated by DGMS will be followed.
(Source - Project Report)
Yes 1) Roof Fall
2) Mine inundation
3) Blasting
4) Explosion
5) Fire
Safety measures stipulated by DGMS will be followed
(Source - Project Report)
No The project is not falling under seismically active zone
orland slide prone area. Chances ofinundation are
negligible in view of the proposed safety measures.
Apartfrom safety measures suggested in thePR, the
mine will be well equipped to deal with eventuality as
enumerated in CMR 1957 and related DGMS
circulars.
Yes
The proposed mine infrastructure may be used in future
also by other future projects after exhaustion of
the reserves in thismine. As such, the likelihood of
Activities at 9.1 and 9.2 above will lead toover all
socio economic benefits of the Projects will accrue
to local population also.
(Source - Project Report)
As coal occurs in continuous layers over large distances,
associated mining activity in future with numerous
closely located centers as indicated at 9.1,
9.2 and 9.3 along with other activities like power
generation etc. cna not be ruled out. This could lead
to cumulative impact on environment.
