지질학적으로 호메로스는 약 430.5±0.7Ma(백만 년 전)~427.4±0.5Ma(약 100만 년 전) 사이인 판에로생대의 고생대 실루리아기 웬록시대를 말한다.호메로스 시대는 신우드의 시대를 계승하고 고스트의 시대를 앞선다.
그 이름은 [5]머치 웬록 근처에 있는 슈롭셔의 작은 마을 호머에서 유래되었다.호메로스 암석층(GSSP)의 명확한 하한선은 영국의 콜브룩데일층 내에 있다.
