토마스 버트람 론스데일 웹스터 프레이 FSA(Thomas Bertram Lonsdale Webster FSA, 1905년 7월 3일 ~ 1974년 5월 31일)[1]는 그리스 희극에 대한 연구로 유명한 영국의 고고학자 겸 클래식리스트였다.
배경
그는 토마스 론스데일 웹스터 경의 아들이었다. 제1차 세계 대전 동안 그는 헌터하우스에 참석했다. 옥스퍼드 대학교 학생으로서, 그는 처음에는 존 비즐리가 들여온 그리스 화병을 연구했지만, 곧 메난데르로 전환하여 그리스 희극에 대한 평생의 관심을 갖게 되었고, 그로 인해 "그리스 극장의 역사와 관련된 상이한 출처의 잃어버린 희곡의 줄거리와 ... 증거 수집의 재구축"이 되었다.[2]
경력
그는 윌리엄 모이어 칼더(1880~1960)의 뒤를 이어 1931-48년 맨체스터 대학교 그리스어 교수로 재직하면서 H.D. (헨리) 웨스트레이크(1906~92)의 뒤를 이었다. 그 후 그는 1948–68년 런던 대학교의 그리스어 교수로 재직했고 1953년에 고전학 연구소를 설립했다. 제2차 세계 대전 동안 그는 군사 정보국의 장교를 지냈다. 아내에 이어 클래식 연주자 A씨. 1967년 사망한 M. 데일 씨는 스탠포드 대학교에서 고전학 교수로, 명예교수로 옮겼다.[2]
