You know, it’s not quite like me – I usually go for action and adventure stories with intense conflicts and grandiose battles, but I gotta say that I really liked this movie. It’s incredibly sweet and heartwarming, and aside from the fact that it’s not outstanding, I can’t really see any faults in it, 7up ratings all around.
Animation (8):
I must say that the animation level in this movie is a great leap for Tenchi Muyo. Daughter of Darkness offers extremely clean, highly professional and very friendly animated scenes, accompanied by some pretty impressive effects. Way to go!
Sound (7):
Very solid BGM, it fits the general mood of the story as it shifts between events and it’s “there” without drawing attention, well done. I also liked the songs and effects – they’re clean and not interruptive to the setting.
Story (8):
Well, there isn’t much that can be commented about the story of a 1-hour movie. I would , however, like to point out that the fact that the creators finally decided to stick to the original Tenchi Muyo story is very pleasing, and it does so in a way that makes it independent from the main plot stream, meaning that even those who have yet to see Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki can fully enjoy it.
Characters (7):
Again – 1-hour movie, not much that can be said. Although, I did catch a slight alteration in Aeka and Ryoko’s characters, it’s small, but it’s there. This subtle change sort of spices things up in my opinion.
Overall (7.5):
I very much enjoyed Tenchi Muyo Daughter of Darkness, in a single hour it was able to convey a beautiful story in a moderately fast pace without rushing it, thus adding to the many positive qualities of this film. I would gladly recommend it to anyone.
