Having grown up in the district, having gone to school here, having worked here, and having raised my family here, the 28th District is my home. And we need strong leadership in Columbus to address the issues facing our district. With my experience as an engineer for 30 years (where I’ve been trained to solve problems for a living); my experience in local government as a Cincinnati City Councilmember; and my experience as a Hamilton County Commissioner, I will be effective in the State Legislature to bring common sense solutions to Ohio. I will fight for more freedom and smaller government; for more jobs and lower taxes; for better schools and no indoctrination; for safer communities by supporting our police; and for defending life!

  • Upholding conservative principles of more freedom, smaller government, and lower taxes.
  • Defending conservative values of protecting life, I am 100% Pro-life. Fighting for better schools with no indoctrination.
  • Standing up for law enforcement to ensure our streets are safer and dangerous criminals are held behind bars.

Public safety; budget & finance; education; state & local government

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Stabilize the 2019 and future Hamilton County budgets. An in depth review is needed to balance the budget while meeting the needs of all of our Hamilton County residents while keeping taxes low. 2) Resolve MSD operations and county water rate issues. MSD rates have risen over 100% in the last 10 years, more than doubling our sewer bills which cost homeowners and small business owners more money. I will also fight to keep water rates low for our communities who are facing an 18% increase in their water bill. These increases are especially hurting seniors and those on fixed incomes. I have fought to lower rates and keep MSD rates frozen for the past 3 years and will continue to make this a priority. 3) Protect all of our communities through focusing on public safety. Everyone should feel safe in their home and neighborhood. For as long as I have been a public servant I have been committed to making our communities safe. I have been a volunteer on the Citizens on Patrol program and helped to establish the re-entry program and a new crime lab in Hamilton County.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Public safety, budgeting, government operations, technology

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My parents. Both of my mom and dad were very involved in their community from volunteering at my grade school to being on the PTA. I remember my mom leading the campaign to give raises to our grade school teachers who were at the time some of the lowest paid teachers in our district.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

Abraham Lincoln: With Malice Toward None by Stephen Oates

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

honesty, integrity, compassion

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I bring the experience of managing budgets and improving delivery of services in the private sector to county government. As an engineer, I'm a natural problem solver. I believe Hamilton County residents want a government seeking solutions to do more with less, rather than asking for more of their hard-earned tax dollars. My time on both Cincinnati City Council and as a Hamilton County commissioner provide a clear record of placing taxpayers first and working to make sure our communities are safe.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To be fair and balanced, to understand how to balance a budget and provide policy direction.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I love Hamilton County and all of our communities. I believe it is an exceptional place to raise a family and operate a business. By serving in local government, I can help ensure that my children and others in the next generation enjoy the same great quality of life we have built in this County. I want to continue to play a part in making local government transparent and accountable while providing our residents with the most cost effective government possible.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Unfortunately, it was the Watergate hearings and I was 4 or 5 years old

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I worked at McDonald's for less than a year.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

Christmas because of the joy of the season and the songs

What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?

My family, because they mean so much to me

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

Putting on the Ritz

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

problem solving, budgeting, organizational management skills

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the local government?

County government covers everything from the sheriff department to the jail to the court system to the foster care system to county roads & bridges...it literally can effect some many people on a daily basis.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

No I don't think it is necessary, but it is helpful
