I am the founding director of Heart Land Prairie Cemetery, a prairie restoration, natural burial ground located in Central Kansas. I regularly teach classes and lead workshops on death and dying related topics, including end-of-life planning, Advance Directives/Living Wills and family directed after death care and green burial. I am the mother of two young women. My husband, Tim, and I have been married for 33 years.

  • The most important thing I have learned in my work with dying people and their families is how to listen, to what matters, what concerns people have, and what makes life meaningful. I will bring that skill to my work as Representative for the 69th District.
  • Children have the right to grow up in a place where they have access to a good education and a successful future. I will support improving public school education and attracting quality teachers to work and stay in Kansas.
  • The ability to respond to extreme climate conditions is imperative to ensure economic resilience of Kansas farmers by adopting innovative water-smart cropping systems and diversifying farm income, including wind energy.

The fact that a majority of voters, including those in my county (Saline), just voted to protect our constitutional right to bodily autonomy indicates that the Republican led legislature is out-of-touch with a large number of Kansans. I will continue to protect access to reproductive rights and listen to my constituents about what matters to them. I am
interested in ensuring that the freedoms we have are accessed equitably regardless of
economic status, race, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Access to affordable healthcare is including in this. I support expanding Medicaid so that more people can get the healthcare they need when they need it.

Similarly, children should have the freedom to receive a good education led by qualified teachers. I support improving K-12 public education through adopting innovative instructional methods that adapt to the learner. I will support efforts that prioritize educational funding including fair pay for teachers and professional
development.

With the reality of a changing climate making itself known daily, we will need to respond to extreme climate conditions including increasing temperatures and drought and the effect these have on Kansas farmers. I will support the continued expansion of renewable energy in Kansas, infrastructure, soil health and water
conservation efforts.

First and foremost, my father, who dedicated his life to improving the lives of others, especially those on the margins socially and economically. He was a tireless worker for justice and equality. He taught me to recognize that everyone has a different lived experience, that we can't begin to know the weight that another carries, and to treat everyone with compassion and kindness.

I was seven years old when Apollo 11 landed on the moon. We lived in East Africa at the time. I remember my dad taking me and my sisters outside where we spotted the rocket in the night sky. Later on we listened to the news reports on the radio and heard Neil Armstrong's historic words, "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
