Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD has comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble, by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted of God.

Nevertheless God, who comforts those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

In your patience you will gain your souls.

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; constant in prayer;

So that we ourselves boast of you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure:

But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.

For what glory is it, if, when you be buffeted for your faults, you shall take it patiently? but if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is commendable with God.

Yet you are just in all that is brought upon us; for you have done right, but we have done wickedly:

But he said unto her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

You meet him that rejoices and works righteousness, those that remember you in your ways: behold, you are angry; for we have sinned: in those ways is continuance, and we shall be saved. Why does a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

The keeper of the prison looked not to anything that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in irons: Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tested him.

Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

Return unto your rest, O my soul; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell in it: they shall move, they shall depart, both man and beast. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead? But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead. Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshiped: then he came to his own house; and when he asked, they set food before him, and he did eat. Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that you have done? you did fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, you did rise and eat bread. And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? But now he is dead, why should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

Because you have kept the word of my patience, I also will keep you from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

I will go into your house with burnt offerings: I will pay you my vows, Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth has spoken, when I was in trouble. I will offer unto you burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret place of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

Surely it is fitting to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more: That which I see not you teach me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

He keeps all his bones: not one of them is broken.

Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goes forth weeping, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

If you be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are you; for the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

Except that the Holy Spirit witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me. You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.

I know, O LORD, that your judgments are right, and that you in faithfulness have afflicted me.

For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights.

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not?

For his anger endures but for a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger forever.

For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with great mercies will I gather you. In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on you, says the LORD your Redeemer.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, That you shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and you shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

In which you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you are in heaviness through manifold trials:

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

Except that the Holy Spirit witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects: therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty:

Behold, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very compassionate, and of tender mercy.
