- The Indo people (Dutch: Indische Nederlanders, or Indos) are Eurasian people living in or connected with Indonesia. In its narrowest sense, the term refers to people in the former Dutch East Indies who held European legal status but were of mixed Dutch and indigenous Indonesian descent as well as their descendants today. In the broadest sense, an Indo is anyone of mixed European and Indonesian descent. Indos are associated with colonial culture of the former Dutch East Indies, a Dutch colony in Southeast Asia and a predecessor to modern Indonesia after its proclamation of independence shortly after World War II. The term was used to describe people acknowledged to be of mixed Dutch and Indonesian descent, or it was a term used in the Dutch East Indies to apply to Europeans who had partial Asian ancestry. The European ancestry of these people was predominantly Dutch, but also included Portuguese, German, British, French, Belgian and others. The term "Indo" is first recorded from 1898, as an abbreviation of the Dutch term Indo-European. - Orang Indo (singkatan dari nama dalam bahasa Belanda, Indo-Europeanen, "Eropa-Hindia") adalah kelompok etnik Mestizo yang ada (atau pernah ada) di Indonesia—dulu Hindia Belanda—dan sekarang menjadi kelompok etnik minoritas terbesar di Belanda. Kelompok etnis ini dicirikan dari kesamaan asal usul rasial, status legal, dan kultural. Kaum Indo merupakan keturunan campuran antara orang dari etnik tertentu di Eropa (terutama Belanda, tetapi juga Portugal, Spanyol, Jerman, Belgia, dan Prancis/Huguenot) dengan fenotipe Eropa dan orang dari etnik non-Eropa tertentu di Hindia Belanda/Indonesia. Kelompok berdarah campuran adalah mereka yang biasa dikenal sebagai orang Indo, Mesties (Bld.), atau Mestizos (Port.), sedangkan mereka yang "berdarah murni" Eropa dikenal sebagai totok (Mel.), blijvers (Bld.), atau kreol. Semenjak dibukanya keran investasi asing besar-besaran pada era Orde Baru dan juga meningkatnya arus kunjungan wisatawan asing ke Indonesia, kaum Indo juga mencakup mereka yang terlahir dari darah Denmark, Norwegia, Finlandia, Rusia, Italia, Amerika Latin, Serbia ataupun yang salah satu orangtuanya berasal dari Australia, Selandia Baru, Kanada, dan Amerika Serikat. Perang Dunia Kedua dan sesudahnya menjadi titik awal diaspora bagi kaum Indo, sehingga saat ini keturunan mereka banyak dijumpai di Belanda, Indonesia, Amerika Serikat (AS), Australia, Selandia Baru, Kanada, serta beberapa negara lain. Di Belanda, kaum Indo sekarang dianggap sebagai kelompok minoritas terbesar (total sekitar 500.000 orang). Mereka dikenal dengan beberapa istilah, seperti Indisch Nederlander atau Indisch saja.
