Exploring Crawfordville
Of all of the counties in Florida, Wakulla County has the most conservation land.
Nearly the entire coastline on the Gulf of Mexico, a vast estuary with many shallow bays and islands, is protected by St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.
While there are small rural communities in the county, Crawfordville is where all the stores are clustered in a long strip along US 319. The town itself began around a tiny square surrounding the original courthouse, which is now a museum.
Edged to the west and north by the Apalachicola National Forest and to the east by the Wakulla Springs basin, it has also has the highest concentration of residents in the county.
The Crawfordville address covers neighboring Medart along US 98, where two hotels are located.
