Crystal equipment

From Old School RuneScape Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Crystal equipment is a range of degradable weapons and armour made from elven crystal. Crystal combat equipment requires completion of Roving Elves to use, as well as 50 Agility (although 56 Agility is a boostable requirement to travel through Tirannwn), among other skill requirements unique to each piece. Crystal tools and crystal armour can only be obtained after Song of the Elves. There is also the crystal saw, which is a reward from the quest The Eyes of Glouphrie.

Upon death in the Wilderness, the killer will receive the seed form of the crystal equipment.

Creation[edit | edit source]

All crystal equipment may be sung from a certain type of crystal seed and varying amounts of crystal shards by the player via the use of a singing bowl, which requires various levels in Crafting and Smithing. If players do not have the requirements, they can have Conwenna or Reese nearby create the items for them for additional crystal shards.

However, for items created via crystal weapon seeds, players can take them to Ilfeen, who will create the items for coins rather than crystal shards.

Crystal weapons[edit | edit source]

Standard crystal weapon seeds can be used to create three types of equipment: crystal bows, shields, and halberds. However, the halberd can only be created after completion of the Hard Western Provinces Diary.

Enhanced crystal weapon seeds can be used to create the blade of Saeldor and the bow of Faerdhinen. These weapons can then be overcharged with crystal shards to create corrupted versions, which no longer degrade.

Enchantment costs[edit | edit source]

While players can use a singing bowl to create crystal combat equipment out of crystal weapon seeds, they can alternatively have Ilfeen enchant them to crystal bows, shields, and halberds for coins. Having her sing halberds requires completion of the Hard Western Provinces Diary. Ilfeen cannot "recharge" the crystal items themselves, players must manually revert their item to a crystal weapon seed and choose the item that they want to pay her for. While singing yourself with shards always costs 616,622 coins, the price she charges depends on how many times she has previously been paid to enchant weapon seeds, down to a minimum price:

Item Enchantment cost
First Second Third Fourth Fifth and thereafter
900,000 720,000 540,000 360,000 180,000
750,000 600,000 450,000 300,000 150,000

Crystal armour[edit | edit source]

Crystal armour seeds can create three pieces of armour: the crystal helm, body, and legs. These can only be created by the player at a singing bowl, or by having Conwenna or Reese sing the crystal for them for an extra 60 crystal shards per piece.

The armour pieces start off at 2,500 charges; the maximum charges that can be stored is 20,000. One charge is depleted for each successful hit that is received from combat or poison, except in the following cases:

  • Damage that is completely negated by protection prayers and Absorption potions does not deplete charges.
  • Damage from non-monster sources such as divine potions and Wintertodt attacks does not deplete charges, with the exception of damage taken from a strange device which does deplete charges.

Using the shard value of making divine super combat potions, the cost per charge is 153.85. Using the shard cost of trading in enhanced crystal teleport seeds to Amrod, the most efficient option for buying crystal shards directly, the cost per charge is 154.16. Assuming continuous unprotected combat against an enemy with an attack speed of 4 ticks, each piece of armour will lose 1500 charges per hour, costing 231,233.08 per hour per piece (or 693,699.23 per hour with all 3 armour pieces) using the cost of trading in enhanced crystal teleport seeds.

To recharge the armour pieces, the player must load in crystal shards (this can be done before it is inactive as well), with each shard granting 100 charges. Dismantling a crystal armour piece will return the crystal armour seeds to the player but all crystal shard charges that were previously loaded will be lost.

Each crystal armour piece has a bonus effect when equipped to give a damage and accuracy increase to the crystal bow and Bow of Faerdhinen, adding up to a total 15% damage and 30% accuracy bonus when the full set is equipped.

When combined with an imbued slayer helmet, the damage bonus from crystal armour pieces is multiplied by the 15% ranged damage boost from the helmet. Assuming players are wearing both the crystal body and legs, this results in a damage bonus of approximately 29.375%.

Variants[edit | edit source]

The armour can be recoloured by use of crystals purchased from Lliann's Wares.

Crystal tools[edit | edit source]

Crystal tool seeds can create three pieces of equipment: the crystal axe, pickaxe and harpoon, which share the same combat stats as their dragon equivalents but offer faster gathering speeds. These can only be created by the player at a singing bowl, or by having Conwenna or Reese sing the crystal for them for an extra 60 crystal shards per piece.

The tools start off at 10,000 charges; the maximum charges that can be stored is 20,000. One charge is depleted for each item that is obtained using the tool. To recharge the tools, the player must load in crystal shards (this can be done before it is inactive as well). Dismantling a crystal tool will return the dragon equivalent and crystal tool seed to the player and doing so will lose all crystal shard charges that were previously loaded.

Changes[edit | edit source]

Date Changes
13 March 2014
(update)

Crystal equipment now reverts to a seed when dropped on death.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • There was once a glitch that allowed players to cast High Level Alchemy on crystal bows and crystal shields in free-to-play worlds and make several thousand coins per piece. Players could buy crystal seeds from other players, pay the reduced recharge cost, and make large sums of money. Because of this glitch, it is no longer possible to alchemise crystal equipment at all.
