During the Ode of the Devourer quest, each cleansed shard will cleanse 3,000 corruption from the boss, with a bonus depending on the player's reactions when used from the highest pillar. While there is a timer on it, the bonus corruption cleansed is not tied to how quickly the pillars are reached, but how quickly the boss is cleansed after jumping on the first pillar. The pillars can be jumped quickly in order even if the animation is lagging behind. Climbing quickly cleanses 25% extra corruption (3,750 per shard), and taking more time gradually decreases the extra corruption cleansed to 15% (3,450 per shard), 10% (3,300 per shard), and finally 5% (3,150 per shard).
After the quest the corruption cleansed is reduced to 2,500, with cleansing from the highest pillar increasing this by 25% (3,125 per shard), 15% (2,875 per shard), 10% (2,750 per shard), or 5% (2,625 per shard) as during the quest.
When dropped, they don't disappear like items usually do.
