Fire pit is scenery encountered during the Meeting History quest, where it serves an indirect purpose. Jack is located next to it trying to light it, and Jack's invention of fire strike is a plot point from the quest. The player remembering facts about Jack's life related to fire helps progress the quest (specifically, that he starting learning magic with cosmic, mind, body, and fire runes that he received from Misalionar, and that he started with creating fire).
