The Ga'al are TzHaar which have been born erroneously, and have not retained the memories of their ancestors (which other TzHaar do) as well as being physically different.

There are five "named" Ga'als:

• Ga'al-Rek, featured in A Return To Stone, a lore on the RuneScape website. Ga'al-Rek was the first Ga'al.
• Ga'al-Jeh, a recently-born Ga'al spawned by TzHaar-Mej-Jeh. He is destroyed by the TzHaar-Ket-Yit'tal in The Elder Kiln.
• Ga'al-Xox, whom the player must escort through the tunnels to the Elder Kiln. Like Ga'al-Rek, he has taught himself to speak, and claims to be "one of the first Ga'al".
• TzHaar-Ga'al-Kot, a Ga'al explorer that can be encountered after completing The Brink of Extinction.
• TzHaar-Ga'al-Knot, found on Springbreak Island in the Arc.

History

During the early stages of Gielinor, the TokHaar formed mountains and completed the task that the Elder Gods had assigned them. Some of these TokHaar decided to stay in the mountain rather than return to the Elder Kiln, eventually becoming today's TzHaar. The TokHaar viewed this as weak and against their true purpose, and decided to cool the lava down to force the TzHaar to return to them sometime around the Fifth Age.

The TzHaar began to notice that the eggs began to hatch as Ga'al, who did not retain the memories of their ancestors. They decided to round up the Ga'al and send them into the Fight Pits against TzHaar and other Ga'als to die with dignity. The TzHaar attempted to find a way to stop the increasing amount of Ga'als hatching but failed to find a solution.

During the quest The Elder Kiln, after the death of his own Ga'al offspring, a TzHaar-Mej known as TzHaar-Mej-Jeh believed that by using the ancient Elder Kiln, they could infuse the memories of their fallen TzHaar. TzHaar-Mej-Jeh sent the JalYt that helped him attempt to save his egg along with a Ga'al, with the test succeeding and Ga'al-Xox was created.

Thinking that they had found a true solution to the Ga'al, the TzHaar began to send groups of Ga'al to the Elder Kiln along with the Tokkul of famed TzHaar to regain their memories. During the The Brink of Extinction, it is revealed that it did not stop the large amount of Ga'al from hatching in the incubation chambers. Ga'al-Xox also showed resentment as the TzHaar refused to acknowledge the suffering of the TzHaar trapped in the Tokkul, and fled after killing TzHaar-Mej-Ak when the pair attempted to send a group of Ga'al to the Kiln, prompting TzHaar-Mej-Jeh to send the adventurer that helped with the Ga'al problem to apprehend him. Ga'al-Xox revealed to the adventurer that the TokHaar were intentionally cooling the volcano to force the TzHaar to return to them. The two worked together to restore lava to the volcano, with the last valve prompting TokHaar-Hok to appear and defend it. TokHaar-Hok was defeated by the adventurer, and once lava was restored to the volcano, TzHaar-Mej-Jeh reported to the adventurer that healthy TzHaar were being born instead of Ga'al.

Due to the adventurer's support for the Ga'al, TzHaar-Mej-Jeh proclaimed that the Ga'al would be given a caste of their own and be taught by the TzHaar. Several Ga'al can be seen training with the TzHaar throughout the city after the quest is completed. Some Ga'al even left the TzHaar to learn more about the surface world - due to being born at lower temperatures, they were able to leave the warmth of the volcano and safely explore the surface, where they learned more about the human world. Only two Ga'al have done so, those being TzHaar-Ga'al-Kot and TzHaar-Ga'al-Knot.
