- Stay calm and maintain a professional demeanor. Be patient and remain courteous and civil.
- Avoid conflict, even when you know you are right. Give other editors the benefit of the doubt.
- Assume good faith toward your collaborating editors, if not their edits. Assuming good faith is not intended to be self-destructive, but to avoid conflict.
- Ignore attacks. Not easily done, but a real timesaver. Attacks and counter-attacks are hazardous to your mental health. The best and most frequently offered administrative advice is to move on, and, if absolutely necessary, return the next day.
- Don't take it personally. Editors make honest mistakes. Communicating our thoughts is not easily done on the Internet.
- Don't isolate your interpretation. There are many interpretations other than yours. What you read might NOT be what was meant.
- Don't think of editing as a competition. WE are cohorts, collaborating to improve our product.
- Don't edit when angry or upset. Stay off the article and talk page in question. Never let your anger or frustration be the deciding factor in your behavior.
- Don't forget the Human Dimension of Wikipedia editing. Keep things in perspective. There is a real, living and breathing, sensitive human on the other side of the discussion.

You've been busy :)
[edit]Hi Barbera,
I saw your name on a view history listing of edits and thought I'd call by. I was hoping to see that you were still involved but didn't expect to be put to shame :)
I'm really pleased to see how things are apparently going and hope that, with many things hopefully being chalked productively to experience, things are going smoothly.
I have not seen any similar case get raised as the one that we were involved in but I haven't been looking too hard. It remains a concern to me that little emphasis is given to resolution of differences but it didn't seem that other editors shared this view but no worries.
The edit count facility wasn't working when I tried but I would be interested to know where your interests have taken you and what are you doing?
regards GregKaye 10:14, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for checking up on me. I really need to put your talk page on my watchlist so we can stay in touch. I am still very interested in working on the process that I was involved in. If it weren't for you, I probably would have stopped editing altogether. I believe that, in the meantime, I would like to eventually become an administrator and focus on working on the whole process from that angle. It will take me a year to 'prove' myself and prepare answers to the more typical questions that will be raised in the process. So I won't apply for admin status until then. So put me on your 'to-do' list and send me helpful suggestions.
- Things are going smoothly, I believe. Ironically, very recently I was being 'followed' around and having a large number of edits reverted by an editor-so I stopped putting myself in this editor's 'sphere of influence' and editing articles that I knew would be critically examined and reverted. So I am walking away from this situation at this time. If you would like to see what I am talking about, see the talk page of the article ketogenic diet and the talk page history of project medicine. Look for my name. Any advice from you would be greatly appreciated. I feel that I am being treated inappropriately and that my editing is being hampered due to these situations. I am not asking or canvassing you to make any responses at all to these already outdated discussions.
- I have found it difficult to find other editors who will collaborate in editing articles with me. I was working on bringing the article Pelvic inflammatory disease up to GA status, asked for assistance on the proj med talk page and received no response from the other 350 proj med editors. Stay in touch and let me know of any situations that appear to be similar to what I experienced/am experiencing. I seriously wonder how many editors have been lost due to the process that is not encouraging and does not adhere to WP:HERE. Best Regards,

Re your comments in the acidic mouth deletion discussion
[edit]Assume you mean, articles should not be deleted because their *sources* do not meet MEDRS. Agree with this, as long as reliable sources can be found to replace them (i.e the subject is notable for an article). This particular article did contain a few more reliable sources, but as I explained in the rationale, no reliable sources can be found which use the term. Therefore the topic is not notable for an article, and is a neologism which does not belong here. Matthew Ferguson (talk) 19:16, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- I believe that we are in agreement. I can't argue that the term was/is not a neologism, though I don't remember that being brought up. That would have been a reason for not including the article in the encyclopedia-but there was much discussion about not meeting MEDRS as a reason for its exclusion. I find this troubling. Feel free to continue this discussion on my talk page. I believe it is worth exploring. Best Regards,
Hi Bfpage, I am writing a new article in my sandbox. It has over 100 references. I see from example how to insert the reference and the wiki automatic numbering system. Question 1: How do I reference the same publication in several places in my article? Question 2: When I enter multiple references at the same point it reads [34][35][36]? Can I make it read [34-36]? [edit]The feedback request service is asking for participation in this request for comment on Talk:GJ 1214 b. Legobot (talk) 00:02, 26 August 2015 (UTC) Hi Bfpage, That would be very helpful. If you just change enough to show me the pattern I can probably go from there. The article I am writing is an update and reformat of a 2000 U.S. Gov. publication in "Review of Scientific Instruments" of which I am the only author. I understand that as a Gov. publication there is no copyright problem. The unformatted text at the end is the original text pasted from the RSI article - waiting for my attention. The duplicated figures are just space holders until I can get the correct ones uploaded. Another question: Are all the keyword links to other Wikipedia articles added automatically at some point? I have found working for Wikipedia educational and enjoyable. I have made some significant edits to "Inverted Pendulum" and "Capstan Equation" Thank your for your help with this. All comments are welcome.2601:281:8100:B0B6:345F:6591:C22D:11C9 (talk) 16:04, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

You are getting better all the time. If you look at the coding here, you will see that I created a new heading with the name or title of the message with '== ==' on each side. Also when you left your previous message here you weren't signed in with your user name so all I could see was your IP address. I didn't really know that it was you leaving the message but I guessed it was you. New editors are given a lot of 'grace' and time to learn all the things they need to know. I only suggest that you read other pages that explain the referencing process and other editing tutorials that will help you learn even faster. Best Regards,

- 1 Could you please give more information on what you meant , for future reference . Was it edited as it was not brief or something else ?
- 2 Also why did you remove the topics/headlines/pointers i added (i understand the explanations were a bit long) , eg the point about "There is one god who is found by grace of god "
This is actually an important text and the granth/book starts with this (in Gurmukhi dialect of course) , and it has so much significance that the original author The 5th Guru had added that to the beginning of all the prayers .
you can verify also it at website www.srigranth.org which is a digital version .

Five minutes to help make WikiProjects better
[edit]Hello!
First, on behalf of WikiProject X, thank you for trying out the WikiProject X pilot projects. I would like to get some anonymous feedback from you on your experience using the new WikiProject layout and tools. This way, we will know what we did right, and if we did something horribly wrong, we can try to fix it. This feedback won't be associated with your username, so please be completely honest. We are determined to improve the experience of Wikipedians, and your feedback helps us with that. (You are also welcome to leave non-anonymous feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject X.)
Please complete the survey here. The survey has two parts: the first part asks for your username, while the second part contains the survey questions. These two parts are stored separately, so your username will not be associated with your feedback. There are only nine questions and it should not take very long to complete. Once you complete the survey I will leave a handwritten note on your talk page as a token of my appreciation.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Harej (talk) 17:49, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!
[edit]The Barnstar of Diligence
You've made significant efforts to improve the encyclopedia, even a situation came up where a long-ish block could've been justified and I asked you to follow some guidelines to make sure the situation didn't recur. You basically doubled the guidelines, and then got to work improving ENWP content in a meaningful way without blinking at the fact that you had been briefly justifiably blocked with the possibility of a longer block. If every person I ever blocked had a similar reaction, ENWP would have a lot more high quality content. Thank you for being willing to set aside any pettiness, and focus on improving the encyclopedia. Kevin Gorman (talk) 19:48, 2 November 2015 (UTC) |
- Thank you for the barnstar. As for not 'blinking', I can't possibly characterize or minimize my block in this way. As for contributing to the encyclopedia in a 'meaningful way'...well, hmmm...that's what I thought I was doing all along. Yes, there was the possibility of being blocked even longer but I am not sure that is a tactful thing to put into a barnstar...why bring up a past threat, twice? There is no pettiness to set aside and I have always focused on improving the encyclopedia. You probably don't need to mention the justifiability of the block, twice, either. You're a good guy and I wish you the best. Best Regards,

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. [edit]Hi,
I think you have an interest in Animal attacks. Wiki-years ago, in the last couple of days actually, I saw an article in wp:AfD (biogaphy/Canadian) which was about a woman attacked by a shark ( forget the type) in Mexico. I was going to tell you about it, but got distracted. and now I cannot find it, sigh... Ottawahitech (talk) 20:53, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks so much. I usually update the page by doing a news search for recent incidences. I did a historical search once and then that's where I found out that house cats have killed infants. If you like searching for such things, just post a url here on my talk page and I will follow up on it. The Very Best of Regards.
- I found the AfDed article, Nicole Moore. It was created by a new editor and A7ed the minute it appeared on wikipedia, and after some wrangling the CSD was finally declined by an admin. It looks like this new editor (who is now being disparaged at AfD) put some work into it -- a real shame how we treat editor wannabes here, sigh.. Ottawahitech (talk) 02:35, 6 December 2015 (UTC)please ping me
- We need to ask for some stats on how many people never add content again after they've been treated like that. What a shame, what a terrible shame. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that anyone can edit...and then watch the edit disappear in five seconds. Best Regards,

Happy Birthday to You (song)
[edit]Hi. You recently accepted an edit by an IP user to the article Happy Birthday to You. I wanted to let you know that generally, changes to the name (of the birthday person) within the article are not considered constructive, because the original published version of the song contains the name "John" rather than any other name. Of course, people who sing this song change the name (while singing it) to the name of the birthday person, and this is reflected in the article, but the lyrics should report the official version. Thank you for your contributions and thank you for patrolling edits to articles such as these -- your help is invaluable. Etamni | ✉ | ✓ 17:15, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Questions about Wikipedia
[edit]Hi, Barbara! I wanted to ask you some questions about Wikipedia. I saw you "reviewed" my article (Human milk oligosaccharide). How is "reviewing" differentiated from "patrolling"?
Also, when I looked up your primary account I was interested to find out that you're participating in a "visiting scholar" program. How do people get selected for that? I assume, of course, that you actually have to be a scholar! But what are the other criteria? That seems like a pretty neat program. Snazzywiki (talk) 16:19, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Horse drawn caravan article
[edit]I am brand new to Wikipedia and I'm going to make a mess of the references/ citations, so I'll leave it in your capable hands. However, hopefully this will help: I will number the references in order of where they would fit in best to the article, from 1 to 8 or whatever. That way you know where to to put each citation. Lemme know if that works. Thanks
Numbering

18:48:39, 5 January 2016 review of submission by NVermeys
[edit]
Hello,
Thank you for your review and your notes. I am sorry I did not get back to you sooner, I only saw the message you sent me a few minutes ago.
The reason for which the formatting appears to have been copied and pasted is because I wrote the article in Microsoft Word, which I find easier to edit in, and then inserted it into the Wikipedia page. I assure you that, other than the sections which are specifically in quotations, none of what I have written violates any copyright. The reason I have been able to come up with so much content is because I am very familiar with the subject matter, being a researcher for the Cyberjustice Laboratory, which I describe briefly in the article. My aim in writing this article was to essentially increase awareness on the subject of electronic justice, or cyberjustice.
As for the language, I will re-read what I have written over the next couple of days and try to word it in simpler language.
Thanks again for everything.
Best regards,

As you predicted
[edit]As you predicted someone came along and said the First Around... article was not suitable, mainly due to the referencing. I'll try my best to find more suitable articles and sources, but surely the article and acheivement is worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia, when there are plenty of things with far less significance on it. I'm sure you're busy with other projects too, but let me know what you think. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fsmgrant (talk • contribs) 19:04, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Coca-Cola treatment of phytobezoars
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Coca-Cola treatment of phytobezoars, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Gnuish (talk) 02:14, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Gee, it been a year since I got back to writing and with all the ups and downs, I still remember you. I still haven't gotten back to re-doing One wall paddleball but by a rough count this past year I've done or lent a hand on 17 or so articles, the longest of which, (Institutional racism)- had the only edit war which ended when the other party threw their cards in the air and gave up on the fight. I'm still fighting, got one in draft that Afc doesn't like, but I took your advice and won't let them tear it down. I have one that was totally rejected, two that were white-washed, one with insufficient access to sources from the 1800's and so far, no real help from Afc. I put a partial list on my user page...
So thanks, someone asked me today how much does Wikipedia pay? I was tempted to throw out a barnstar, but they wouldn't have a clue... Any hoo... Cheers! User:BeeCeePhoto

Vulva
[edit]Thank you for your comments. Your wanting to include 'anus' goes against the majority of sources that do define the vulva as consisting of the external female genital organs and nowhere is the anus regarded as such. It is sometimes included in diagrams but not as a part of the vulva just as a reference point or landmark. Could you take the time to investigate other sources as I'm confident they will outweigh your sources. The separation as a vulvar area of the urogenital triangle clearly excludes the anus. If you want to include it you will have to change the accepted definition. --Iztwoz (talk) 08:47, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
- DearIztwoz your opinion matters to me. I've not found in any source that the statement or content that states: "the vulva consists of the external female genital organs". This is probably because the urinary meatus is not an external genital organ. Also, there are tissues and other structures in the vulvar area that are not "external female organs" such as the nerve supplies, vascular tissue and lymphatics. But without references to establish what you are stating, it makes it difficult for me to accept the idea that 'it's a minority opinion' (on the talk page, for example). If another editor wants to take the time to find the other sources and finds what you and the others are saying, then they can be bold(!) and insert the supporting citations. Also, why are we still discussing this anyway? I have not reverted the content about the anus. Respectfully,

- Sorry, Legobot. There seems to be a lot of input (drama) in the discussion already. If any editor wants to know my opinion it is that content belongs in the article and references in the reference section. It is difficult to jump between content in an article and long notes in the reference section. It makes reading tedious. At least to me. Thank you for the invitation.

Great idea
[edit]Hello Barbara!
Sorry it took so long getting back to you.
- The first thing I'll suggest to getting a Wikipedia Visiting Scholar going with GLAM is to contact @Mary Mark Ockerbloom:, a very experienced Wikipedian in Residence, and the nicest person you'll ever meet.
- If you are ever in Philadelphia on the 1st Tuesday of the month, there is a Digital humanities/Wikipedia meeting that she started (pretty informal, check for time and place)
- 2nd, get on the GLAM-US mailing list. It's just an occasional contact point but useful when needed
- Send GLAM-US mailing list submissions to glam-us@lists.wikimedia.org
- To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/glam-us or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to glam-us-request@lists.wikimedia.org
- You can reach the person managing the list at glam-us-owner@lists.wikimedia.org
- Most GLAMers love photos uploaded, as do I. When in doubt see if you can get some photos
- I love videos, especially external videos posted e.g. on Vimeo or You Tube by the copyright owners. I was thinking of posting one on Joe Negri explaining how Gene Kelly helped him get started at age 5. A bit too short though - do you know of any good, no copyright problems, video of Negri? Now if you could convince Negri to make a video for Wikipedia playing Stephen Foster (and his own improvisations, no copyright problems), then I'd be ecstatic.
- Do you have a list of articles you might need help with?
That's about all I can think of for now, but I won't hesitate to make specific requests. Of course, requests are just that - requests - and I often expect answers like "How do you expect me to get a video of Joe Negri playing Sephen Foster songs?"
All the best. Smallbones(smalltalk) 13:38, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hello and thank you for the comprehensive reply. At this point, I am a Visiting Scholar with the University of Pittsburgh (as Barbara (WVS) and in my work it seems that I have already been doing a lot of what is listed in the GLAM descriptions of activities. I have uploaded a number of archive photos and contents. I love the idea about Negri playing Foster and since I am scheduled to work with the librarian who manages the Stephen Foster memorial, I will be sure and ask her. I will be training the librarians and their interns and staff how to upload content. This should be an exponential increase in the contributions from the University of Pittsburgh Library System - seems like a GLAM thing to me. In addition, I met some librarians from the Carnegie Museum of Art, which is not affiliated with Pitt at an Edit-a-thon here in Pittsburgh. I will pass on information to them when I can. I just created a page to show basic information about a new (founded 2013) 3D printer company. I have added 2 references to the article. It's not my intention to promote any products, but rather to provide neutral information on the existence of this new company. I hope the page is acceptable as is. I intend to continue editing it and adding useful content as I get more proficient with Wikipedia. Thank you.Rsandhuwiki (talk) 02:16, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

Re: Recent edit to Violence Against Women Act
[edit]Greetings, I have reviewed your changes. Unfortunately, they are completely invalid and without merit. My previous contributions to the article have been reinstated. - Oh, that's okay. It didn't seem to have a neutral tone and I sincerely doubt the source contained the statement that you reinserted into the article. I totally agree that violence against men is probably un-represented on Wikipedia, but that is only my opinion. Best Regards,
- User:Bfpage
- On second thought I noticed that you've received quite a few warnings on your talk page, I might not be the one with a problem. I gave you a welcome message.
Removal of reference to Alvaro Uribe on Monteria Page
[edit]Hi,
I am someone who occasionally adds a few notes to articles here and there. Most of the cities and towns in Colombia have only stubs or very scant material. I live in Monteria part of the year. Deleting a reference to Monteria being known as the home of Alvaro Uribe Velez makes no sense to me.(June 8, 2015) I pulled up towns like Crawford, Texas and Independence, Missouri and the famous US Presidents from there are mentioned prominently, sometimes in the first paragraph.
As you travel around Colombia, and mention that you live in Monteria, invariably the person you are talking to will mention that it is the home of Uribe.
I have been hesitant to contribute much to WikiPedia as it seems that it is not a very welcoming place. I hope you will reconsider this edit as the only reason given was "I thought the article was better without it"

Speedy deletion nomination of Two-letter English words
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Two-letter English words, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Invite to the African Destubathon
[edit]Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 55 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African wildlife articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance. If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing any article related to a topic you often work on, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Might be a good way to work on fleshing out articles you've long been meaning to target and get rewarded for it! Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:53, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I'm working with WP:1 and we're starting to put a new collection of articles together for offline use, aimed at high schoolers, especially in developing countries. We noticed that the article Feminine hygiene - which we considered to be fairly important - was listed as "Low importance" for the Women's Health WikiProject; is that an oversight, or is there a specific reason? I also see that it needs some work. Is this something the Women's Health project might work on? Thanks! Walkerma (talk) 03:52, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:26, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

New deal for page patrollers
[edit]Hi Bfpage,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
WikiProject Anatomy newsletter #5
[edit]WP:Anatomy newsletter (#5)
Hello WP:Anatomy participant! This is our fifth newsletter, documenting what's going on in WikiProject Anatomy, news, current projects and other items of interest. There hasn't been too much worthy of news, and I have less time to dedicate to this project, so I've slowed down the release of this newsletter.
I value feedback, and if you think I've missed something, or don't wish to receive this again, please leave a note on my talk page, or remove your name from the mailing list
- What's new
- Adrenal gland, thyroid ima artery, Ear, Heart, Esophagus and Lung are promoted to good article status
- Our previous barnstar has changed to the new shiny "Golden galen" barnstar to celebrate contributions to anatomical articles
- We are featured in the journal Clinical Anatomy [1]
- How can I contribute?
- Participate in discussions - a number of discussions such as those on our talk page or about our infobox would benefit from your opinion!
- Continue to add content to our articles
- Collaborate and discuss with other editors - many hands make light work!
- Focus - how far we've come
How far have we come since our first newsletter... the answer is quite a lot! Here goes:
- Hundreds to thousands of articles improved and standardised by many, many editors.
- 14 new good articles created or added to our project [2]
- Improved quality of our articles - subjectively and objectively. GAs quadrupled from 5 to 16, B-class articles doubles from 62 to 115, C-class article well on the way to trebling from 219 to 611, Start-class increased from 1,082 to 1,570.
- Tens to hundreds of mergers performed between tiny, unedited articles - a remnant of our Gray's Anatomy (1918) heritage.
- Layout guidelines changed and layout standardised for the majority of our articles
- In the project space:
- WikiProject Animal Anatomy created
- 20-30+ new members
- 200+ new editors welcomed with our new welcome template
- Interdisciplinary category system to help new editors
- Active integration with wikidata in our infoboxes
- Overhaul of all of our navboxes
- Review and integration of all of our templates
- External link templates reviewed to ensure they all work
- To help improve anatomical literacy:
- Creation of a suite of five Anatomical terminology articles, and overhaul of existing articles
- Creation of the {{Anatomy-terms}} template created
- Links provided in infoboxes
- Simplifying anatomical terminology essay released
These are substantial improvements and my thanks go out to our many editors who played a part in this. These improvements are almost always the result of consensus, compromise, collaboration and discussion between multiple editors.
I hope we can continue to improve in the future. How can you help? Continue to edit, add content, and create a welcoming atmosphere so that new editors will join us.
Well done to us all, and the many anonymous editors who've helped along the way!
This has been transcluded to the talk pages of all active WP:ANATOMY users. To opt-out, leave a message on the talkpage of Tom (LT) or remove your name from the mailing list

New Page Review needs your help
[edit]Hi Bfpage,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
[edit]Hello, Bfpage. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hello Bfpage. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. -- samtar talk or stalk 12:47, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, note that for my healthcare pages, the word "affordable" is blacklisted in the title, so I requested that it be moved from "affordabl" (on purpose I did) to "affordable" asap by someone with permission to do that. - Sure thing-it is good that I don't have a COI because I can envision someone (an angry person who is angry about the election) nominating it for deletion or using the spelling mistake as a reason for deletion. I tried to move it but I guess I am not qualified or something. I suggest you copy the code to a word document in case someone doesn't like what you have written. Best Regards,

Deletion discussion about Genital pain
[edit]Hello, Bfpage,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Genital pain should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Genital pain .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
Thanks,

Speedy deletion nomination of Joey the squirrel
[edit]Since this is not your first article, it still will be very offensive to some editors who don't understand why this 'pop culture' topic should even be in Wikipedia. It certainly is not as important as having an article for every football (soccer) player whose toe has ever touched the ball or articles about each episode of Sesame Street.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Joey the squirrel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an individual animal, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
— IVORK Discuss 10:16, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
G'day, I'm sorry, but how does this article meet notability requirements at all? Past the fact the media covered the story, there is no evidence or other suggestions that the squirrel is relevant. News outlets today do release feel good stories just to fill the gaps / get clicks, and I'm struggling to see how it's anything more than that since there is no evidence of anything actually happening. — IVORK Discuss 10:19, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
- Friend, please review the criteria for speedy deletion. If what you say is true, then nominate the article for deletion. It is inappropriate to tag it for a speedy deletion.
Bfpage (talk) 10:23, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
- I removed the CSD tag. While I wouldn't normally trust Fox News as far as I could throw it, we would need to check to see if other sources covered the story, and if there are enough to write a detailed article about it (cf. Larry (cat)). I'm skeptical myself, but that's what AfD is for, not CSD. I am worried about Barbara's unhealthy obsession with squirrels, and have a good friend of mine who shares the same affliction - perhaps the two of them could meet up for coffee and squirrel throwing? I've removed the aforementioned squirrel from the "Notable people" section on Meridian, Idaho for the what I would think is obvious reason that squirrels are not people. I echo the concerns above about the notability. It fails WP:NOT x 2 (news and everything), but in respect of your stature around here, I'll give you a while to show me I'm wrong prior to nominating it. Others mileage may vary. Content validity
[edit]Hello, Bfpage, Even WP:NOTCENSORED is a valid rule for encyclopedia, I see some people are using WP as a porn site and I feel it is true in name of not censored. You can not reach limits of pornography found here. A little amount of diagrams of female and male anatomy are enough. I don't feel there is need of having picture of every female who ever went nude by her desire. Most of pictures show smiling faces of topless or nude women. coi and prods
[edit]I removed your prod on Wojtek Zbijewski -- despite the coi, his citations are high enoughthat he will probably pass WP:PROF; they do need to be added.
I also removed your prod on Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering; it is probably a sufficiently famous department to pass AFD. (I am very reluctant to have us include articles on academic departments unless they are actually famous, and have listed many for deletion--byt I think this passes. You are of course welcome to test it--nobody can really predict a AFD result in a case like this.
I am considering what to do about The Johns Hopkins University Center for Imaging Science.. I'm even more conservative about research centers. I'll decide on this one in a day or two, but if I do remove the prod, I shall probably send it to AfD myself.
Please see also my comment on the contributor's talk page , and Doc James' talk p. DGG ( talk ) 06:09, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
Deleted prod for Johns Hopkins BME
[edit]Dear BFP: Thank-you for encouraging m through your prod to review the historical accuracy and neutrality. Two predominant issues have been brought up and I would like to comment on each of these. 1. Conflict of interest/promotionalism. I was unaware of Wikipedia policies when I created the page, which I did in good faith. Once I understood the policies, and thank-you to the editors who helped me with that, I stopped editing the page and instead sought the help of the Wikipedia community (DGG and others). Even though I created the page, the content is all factual and I am looking for the 3rd party citations to support all claims as necessary. Several editors have already removed content to improve neutrality, and I fully support the removal of any additional statements that lack adequate 3rd party documentation. The notability of the department (see below) warrants that this page be kept and improved rather than deleted. As stated above, I will refrain from making additional edits to this page but I would like to suggest the following to again ensure a neutral point of view: Remove: “ Johns is the individual credited[by whom?] with establishing the discipline of biomedical engineering as a graduate program in the School of Medicine, leading to the rise of similar programs nationwide in the decades that followed.[citation needed]” Replace with: “In 1961, Johns Hopkins, along with the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Rochester, established the first graduate programs in biomedical engineering. Established in the School of Medicine, the program at Johns Hopkins is the oldest continually-funded PhD program in the nation.” Incorporate relevant citations provided below.
This suggestion is based on facts obtained from the following article, among others, available on Pubmed (see page 697) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1929656/pdf/pubhealthreporig00104-0055.pdf This article quotes: “Biomedical Engineering. A program leading to a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering will be initiated at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, in the fall of 1961. It will combine, for the first time, advanced training in engineering subjects particularly pertinent to research in biological systems with systematic study of the application of principles of physical and engineering sciences to biological systems. The University of Pennsylvania and the University of Rochester are cooperating with Johns Hopkins in establishing similar programs.” NIH Reporter, which tracks the training grants given to fund PhD programs, shows that of the original 3 programs only JHU is still funded. The following reference also explains that we are the oldest continually-funded program in the US: http://ethw.org/Oral-History:Richard_J._Johns RICHARD J. JOHNS: An Interview Conducted by Frederik Nebeker, IEEE History Center, 26 April 2000; Interview # 393 for the IEEE History Center, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Inc. 2. Notability. I appreciate that noteworthiness is not an absolute metric. I wanted to just share some thoughts on possible measures indicating that Biomedical Engineering as a discipline is significant, and that JHU BME is noteworthy within the field. a. While h-index is not an absolute measure of noteworthiness and comes with its own caveats, Wikipedia says and I am quoting "…an outstanding scientist [has] an h-index of 40, and a truely unique individual an h-index of 60". Currently we have 8 faculty with h-index greater than 60, 12 faculty with h-index greater than 50, and 19 over 40. For comparison, I looked at Duke, Stanford and Georgia Tech in this manner and none have as many highly-cited faculty. Georgia Tech and Stanford have 5 faculty with h-index greater than 50. b. We have 5 listed members of the National Academies. According to Wikipedia "Election into the National Academies is one of the highest honors in the scientific field.” c. The size of our discipline is significant, and the scale of leading BME departments is similar to that of other outstanding programs which have wiki pages. For example, Georgia Tech, Duke, UCSD and JHU all have ~40 tenure line faculty in Biomedical Engineering. d. The acceptance rate of 7.8% into the JHU BME undergraduate program is currently more competitive than acceptance into CalTech and MIT, based on current U.S. News and World Report statistics. This could be considered an indirect measure of the prominence of our program. e. The scope of our activities is international in scale. In addition to international research collaborations, our department has partnerships with prominent institutions from around the world, including Tsinghua University. Just this year, we were awarded funding to establish a new engineering design partnership with universities in the Middle East through the Stevens Initiative. If there are other measures that Wikipedia uses for noteworthiness of academic institutions I would be happy to address them. Thank-you for your participation in Wikipedia. Introduction to WikiProject Anatomy and Anatomy on Wikipedia
[edit]Seeing as we have so many new members, and a constant stream of new editors to our articles, I would like to write in this issue about how our project and articles are arranged.
The main page for WikiProject Anatomy is here. We are a WikiProject, which is a group of editors interested in editing and maintaining anatomy articles. Our editors come from all sorts of disciplines, from academically trained anatomists, students, and lay readers, to experienced Wikipedia editors. Based on previous discussions, members of our project have chosen to focus mainly on human anatomy ([5]), with a separate project for animal anatomy (WP:ANAN). A WikiProject has no specific rights or abilities on Wikipedia, however it does allow a central venue for discussion on different issues where interested editors can be asked to contribute, collaborate, and perhaps reach a consensus.

Wikipedia has about 5,500,000 articles. Of these, about 20,000 fall under our project, about 5,000 of which are text-containing articles. Articles are manually assigned by editors as relating to our project (many using the rater tool). As well as articles, other Wikipedia pages in our project include, lists, disambiguation pages, and redirects. Our articles are improving over time, and you can have a look at our goals and progress, or last newsletter, to get a better idea about this.
Our articles are structured according to the manual of style, specifically here. The manual of style is a guideline, which "is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply", and prescribes the layout of anatomy articles, most of which follow it.
Our articles are organised in a particular way. Most articles have a infobox in its lead, describing key characteristics about the article. Because we have so many articles, articles are often linked together in different ways. An article tends to focus on the primary topic it is written about. Further information can be linked like this, or piped (like this). We use navboxes, which are the boxes at the bottom of articles providing links to similar topics, as well as hatnotes. Typical hatnotes in articles include {{main}}, {{see also}} and {{further}}. This lets us link to relevant and related articles. The bottom of articles also shows categories, which store groups of related articles.
- Tools
For interested editors, our project offers a number of additional tools to help edit our articles. On our main page appears a log of the most edited recent articles. An automatic list of recent changes to all our articles is here. We have a list of the most popular pages (WP:ANAT500). To keep abreast of news and discussions, it is best to monitor our talk page, newsletters, and our article alerts, which automatically lists deletion, good article, featured article, and move proposals. We also have a open tasks page for editors to create lists of tasks that other editors can collaborate with. Articles are also manually assigned to a "discipline", so interested editors in for example, gross anatomy, histology, or embryology can easily locate articles via here.
Our project has all sorts of smaller items that editors may or may not know about, including a barnstar, user box ({{User WPAnatomy}}), welcoming template ({{WPANATOMY welcome}}) and fairly comprehensive listing of templates (here).
- Invitation
We are always happy to help out, and I invite new editors, or for those with any questions relating to how to get around the confusing environment that is Wikipedia, to post on our talk page or, for a kind introduction to questions, at the WP:TEAHOUSE.
How can I contribute?
[edit]- Ask questions! Talk with other editors, collaborate - and if you need help, ask!
- Continue to add content (and citations) to our articles
- Collaborate and discuss with other editors - many hands make light work!
- Find a space, task or type of article that you enjoy editing - there are lots of untended niches out there

Upcoming Edit-a-thon
[edit]Hello! I hope you are well. I sent you an email about a month ago but thought I would try to get in touch this way. Carnegie Museum of Art is hosting another Wiki Edit-a-thon this Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 10:30-4:30. ADAM
[edit]Please note that ADAM is NOT public domain.[6] The NIH has just bought a license to it.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message
[edit]Hello, Bfpage. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
Notice regarding a user script
[edit]Hi. Recently, a request was made for someone to revise the User:Bility/convert24hourtime.js user script. I (DannyS712) took up that challenge, and have fixed the bug with the "thanks" button, fixed the bug regarding blocked users, fixed the bug regarding converting the times when examining a diff, and even added the feature to convert times when looking at logs. I have some more features planned, but I thought that, since you are currently importing Bility's script, you may want to know that a less buggy version is available at User:DannyS712/12Hours. This is intended as a one-time note. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 20:07, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Pressure
[edit]I'm sad that you've been pressured into resigning a VS position due to a particular individual's muckraking. I'm resisting this with regard to Meta:Talk:Tech/Ambassadors#Stanton McCandlish, but if an external entity like a university is involved, I can see how simply the suggestion you've done something offensive to a certain group is likely to result in the university demanding a resignation for CYA purposes. [sigh] The sad thing is that the muckraker looks to be getting away with it this time, though a repeat will probably result in a re-instatement of their topic ban. I made a mistake in taking the matter to ANI; I hadn't realized until afterward that the pre-existing prohibition on incivility and canvassing in relation to that topic, as a condition of their topic ban being lifted, meant that it could go straight to ArbCom, who would have been more likely to examine the behavior as canvassing and incivility, period, not as a popularity contest about the content. Live and learn. Of course that last also goes for daring to put out a humor piece that is apt to be misinterpreted by people looking for things to misinterpret and work up some offense over. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 06:07, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Please participate to the talk pages consultation
[edit]Hello
Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.
We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.
We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

Wikiproject Anatomy newsletter #7
[edit]Released September 2020 · Previous newsletter
Hello WikiProject Anatomy participant! This is our seventh newsletter, documenting what's going on in WikiProject Anatomy, news, current projects and other items of interest.
I value feedback, and if you think I've missed something, or don't wish to receive this again, please leave a note on my talk page, or remove your name from the mailing list.
Yours truly, --Tom (LT) (talk) 07:24, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
What's new
[edit]new good articles since last newsletter include Epiglottis, Human nose, Pancreas, Prostate, Thymus, Trachea, T tubule, Ureter and Vagina, with Anatomical terms of location also awaiting review
A made-up eponymous term is used in our article that eventually makes it in to university anatomy teaching slides and a journal article
We reach a project goal of 150 B-class articles in July 2020, increasing by about 50% over five years, and are one good article away from our goal of 40 GAs, doubling over the last five years
In the real world, Terminologia Anatomica 2 and Terminologia Embryologica 2 are released ([7], [8]). Terminologia Anatomica 2 is now included in anatomy article infoboxes, and there is ongoing discussion about updating TE as well
A beautiful new barnstar is released ({{subst:The Anatomist Barnstar}})
Portal:Anatomy receives some attention, and two related portals are deleted (vale Human body and Cranial nerve portals)
Some things left out from past newsletters - A large amount of redirects are created to help link plural structures, and Cerebellum ([9]) and Hippocampus ([10]) are published in Wikiversity. |
Newsletter topic: anatomy and featured articles
[edit]I have been asked to write up something introducing the Featured article (FA) process to anatomy editors, but I took a more general approach to explaining why one might want to contribute featured content and the benefits to the editor and to Wikipedia. I also tried to address some misconceptions about the FA process, and give you a guide that is somewhat specific to health content should you decide to take the dive.
A vital purpose of Featured articles is to serve as examples for new and aspiring Wikipedia editors. FAs are often uniquely comprehensive for the Internet. They showcase some of our best articles, and can enhance Wikipedia's reputation if they are maintained to standard—but in an "anyone can edit" environment, they can easily fall out of standard if not maintained. Benefits to the writer include developing collaborative partnerships and learning new skills, while improving your writing and seeing it exposed to a broader audience—all that Wikipedia is about!
Looking more specifically at WP Anatomy's featured content, the Featured media is impressive and seems to be an Anatomy Project strength. The Anatomy WikiProject has tagged 4 FAs, 1 Featured list, and 30 Featured media. Working towards upgrading and maintaining older Featured articles could be a worthwhile goal. Immune system is a 2007 FA promotion, and bringing it up to date would make a nice collaboration between WikiProject Medicine and the Anatomy WikiProject. Hippocampus is another dated promotion that is almost 50% larger than when promoted, having taken on a bit of uncited text and new text that might benefit from a tune-up.
Whether tuning up an older FA at Featured article review, or attempting a new one to be reviewed at Featured article candidates, taking the plunge can be rewarding, and I hope the advice in my essay is helpful.
You can read the essay "Achieving excellence through featured content" here.
SandyGeorgia has been a regular FA reviewer at FAC and FAR since 2006, and has participated in thousands of nominations

You've been unsubscribed from the Feedback Request Service
[edit]Hi Bfpage! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over two years.
In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in two years or more.
You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:
- Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
- Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
- Paste
{{Frs user|Bfpage|limit}}
underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month. - Publish the page.
If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.
Note that if you had a rename and left your old name subscribed to the FRS, you may be receiving this message on your new username's talk page still. If so, make sure your new account name is subscribed to the FRS, using the same procedure mentioned above.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on the Feedback Request Service bot's operator's talk page. Thank you! Message delivered to you with love by Yapperbot :) | Is this wrong? Contact my bot operator. | Sent at 18:05, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Bfpage, you're receiving this message because you were previously listed at WikiProject Anatomy as a participant, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over 3 years.
Because of your inactivity, you have been removed from the participant list, so that we stop spamming you with newsletters and have a better idea of who to contact for active discussions. If you would like to resubscribe, you can do so at any time by visiting here when you become active again.
Thank you, and all the best on your WikiVoyages! Message delivered to you with love by Yapperbot :) | Is this wrong? Contact my bot operator. | Sent at 18:00, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

The file File:Artist kevin photo.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unused personal photo. Out of scope.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 03:29, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
Happy holidays!
[edit]Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, Barbara!
The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:10, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
