Jeff Goldblum has revealed he was brutally shamed by an assistant director for stinking out the set of the 1974 thriller Death Wish, his first ever film role.
The Wicked actor, 72, who was just 22 at the time, recalled he got so carried away with method acting that he stopped washing – much to the upset of his fellow cast and crew.
After being called out, Jeff was so embarrassed that he learned his lesson to always 'keep your hygiene up'.
The dad-of-two said: 'I didn't shower in order to play this street thug.
'Because I was a nice boy from Pittsburgh, I was like 19 or 20, something like that.
'And I was rather well-behaved. I had to be this dangerous street criminal.'

In a recent interview with People, Jeff continued: 'The assistant director came up to me and said, 'Jeff, we're in a small space here. You smell. Can you do something about that?'
'Please, please go home and et cetera, et cetera.'
'I was shamed, but it was a good lesson: In show business or any collaborative, close area, keep your hygiene up.'
Death Wish, directed by Michael Winner, was a vigilante film starring Charles Bronson and Hope Lange.
The film, loosely based on the 1972 novel of the same title by Brian Garfield and the first film in the Death Wish film series, follows an architect who resorts to vigilantism after his wife is murdered and daughter raped during a home invasion.
Charles was catapulted into super stardom following the movie's release, experiencing huge popularity in the two decades that followed.
Death Wish was remade by Eli Roth in 2018 with Bruce Willis in the lead role alongside Vincent D'Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, Dean Norris and Kimberly Elise in supporting roles.

Jeff plays the wizard in his latest role in the newly released musical adaptation of Wicked.
He appears in the film, which hit theaters worldwide on November 22, alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who play Glinda and Elphaba respectively.
Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Keala Settle, Peter Dinklage, Aaron Teoh, Grecia de la Paz, Colin Michael Carmichael, Adam James, and Andy Nyman also star.
Wicked tells the story of an unlikely friendship that emerges between Elphaba and Glinda, two clashing witches in the magical land of Oz.
Elphaba is wrongfully cast as a wicked witch as she seeks to expose the fraudulent, corrupt Wizard who rules the land.
The sequel, Wicked Part Two, will follow the next year, premiering in cinemas on November 21, 2025.
