See inside Robert Redford's breathtaking coastal California home movie icon has just listed for $4.15m
Actor and filmmaker Robert Redford has listed his breathtaking home in California for $4.15 million and described the tranquil oasis as a 'private coastal heaven'.
The 88-year-old actor, known for roles in films such as 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' and 'The Horse Whisperer', originally bought the four-bedroom home in 2020 for $3.1 million.
The 2,824-square-foot house, built in 1968, sits on the Tiburon Peninsula and overlooks the San Francisco Bay in Tiburon, California, with breathtaking views of Keil Cove and Angel Island.
The split-level cottage, residing on a 0.2-acre lot, is surrounded by towering redwood trees. Listing agent, Steven Mavromihalis of Compass described the property as an 'oasis of privacy'.
The home at 2517 Mar East Street is tucked away in a cul-de-sac with minimal traffic, according to Mavromihalis, and boasts a spacious family room, two-car garage, a front and garden patio and expansive decks facing south and east.
Inside the home is where mid-century meets the coast, with bright rooms accented by earth tones. Many pieces of art and furniture featured across the home - some created by the owners themselves- are also available through negotiation separately from the listing price.
Redford and his wife, Sibylle Szaggars Redford, told the San Francisco Chronicle: 'We have a long history with and great affection for the town of Tiburon, having previously owned other homes in the area.
'We have always loved the fact that one can walk to most places, not only stores and restaurants, but also hiking trails in the nearby open space.'

Since they moved in, they especially leaned into the coastal aesthetic of the area and added a series of upgrades to the home.
'Overall, we made cosmetic changes to the interior to brighten things up and create a more coastal feel inside,' they said. 'And we love spending time outside, so we improved the outdoor terraces and gardens, creating more of an inviting flow between the home's indoor and outdoor spaces.'
The outdoor spaces are beautifully complimented by a garden of lavender, jasmine and succulents under a breathtaking skyline across the bay
'The two of us are devoting a great deal of time to the non-profit organization, The Way of the Rain, also headquartered in Santa Fe, which produces educational and artistic performances to protect the environment and promote global conservation efforts,' the couple said
The breathtaking views are complimented by the addition of climate friendly and beautiful vegetation that Redford and his wife added to the outdoor space.
'We love Mediterranean gardens and Tiburon's climate is perfect for plants like lavender, jasmine and succulents, all water wise plants which now grace the outdoor spaces around the home.'
Despite their love for the area, the couple find they spend most of their time in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Sibylle runs an art gallery.
They also maintain other homes in California and Utah, where Redford founded the Sundance Institute and Sundance Resort.

The median listing price of the secluded area sat at around $3.1 million in October this year, according to Zillow.
Mavromihalis told the SF Chronicle that while the real estate market in the area has softened in recent months due to rising interest rates, it still remains highly desirable.
Tiburon has evolved from what was a small ferry town known for dairy farming into one of the Bay Area's wealthiest residential areas, attracting entrepreneurs, celebrities and those looking for a break from city life in San Francisco.
