I can't sing or act! How Jenni's Chicago musical bid fell flat… just like her pitch
It is a role that requires its star to be front and centre – blasting out a string of showstopping hits.
But Scots TV presenter and Smooth London radio host Jenni Falconer’s bid to play Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago fell apart after she realised she couldn’t sing or act.
The 48-year-old Glaswegian said she was sent to a renowned singing teacher to prepare for the iconic role associated with stars such as Ruthie Henshall, Denise Van Outen, Brooke Shields and Renee Zellweger.
But, after ten lessons, the teacher, who also trained Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, concluded the hit musical would have to be rewritten in a different key for her.

Ms Falconer told the Restless Natives podcast: ‘There was talk of me doing Roxie. I mean I can’t sing so they sent me to this amazing singing teacher who trains everyone.
‘So, I’d go to these lessons. I would actually have cold sweats, I would be shaking, terrified for the entire hour, I hated it.
‘Ten lessons later – not two lessons later – after paying for ten lessons, she went, “They’re going to have to rewrite Chicago in a different key for you”.’
Falconer added: ‘It was awful. We had to then say, “Look, we’re not going to progress with that”.
‘I’m not an actress and anyone who knows me will confirm that, nor should I ever be an actress or a singer.’
