A new reality show is set to push amateur survivalists to their limits.

The Fox series, titled Extracted, will plunge 12 untrained competitors into the Canadian wilderness, where they will be forced to battle the elements in a bid to win $250,000.

In a shocking twist, the competitors' family members are secluded in a secret headquarters watching all the action go down on a live feed - and only they have the power to rescue their loved ones from the wild.

However, if the family choose to extract their loved one from the game, they miss out on the chance to win the massive cash prize.

They will also have the power to send lifelines and resources into the game, but may need to negotiate with rival families in the HQ to do so.

A nail-biting teaser trailer for the series shows the amateur survivalists breaking down in the wild as their loved ones debate whether or not to extract them from the game.

'Press the button,' one man begs, while another woman sobs, 'I'm terrified.'

'I'm not hitting the button,' one family members says defiantly.
