EXCLUSIVEHow to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel 'in development' - as Kate Hudson calls on Hollywood star to join

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have been approached to reunite for a How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel 21 years after their characters accidentally fell in love amid a whirlwind of mind games and manipulation.

DailyMail.com can reveal an early script for the upcoming rom com is in the works, with Hudson, 45, reportedly trying to convince her mother Goldie Hawn to sign on.

The hotly anticipated sequel, currently titled 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days - again', looks set to follow Hudson’s Andie Anderson as she prepares to marry McConaughey’s Benjamin Barry, all while tackling her fractured relationship with her mother.

Hudson is calling on Hawn, 78, to sign on, but the Hollywood veteran is concerned she will struggle to play a strained mother-daughter duo when the pair are so close in real life.

‘The only reason Goldie is not 100 percent ready to sign on is that in the new movie the two have a very strained relationship,’ an insider told DailyMail.com. ‘In real life Kate and Goldie are more like sisters than mother and daughter.

‘They share all their secrets and Goldie was even at the birth of Kate's three children.

‘Goldie is worried she will find it really hard to play a mother who is at odds with her daughter.’

‘Kate’s begging her to do it but Goldie still hasn’t fully committed yet,’ they added.

The popular romcom followed magazine writer Andie and advertising executive Benjamin who fall for each other despite the former’s attempts to deter him in 10 days as part of an idea for a feature. Unbeknownst to her, Benjamin had placed a bet with work mates claiming he could make any woman fall for him in the same time frame.

There are plans for a sequel to start filming next year.

Christine Peters' Marmont Lane Entertainment is also returning to produce having championed the original adaptation.

In July, Hudson revealed she and McConaughey would be ‘totally open’ to reprising their roles for a sequel.

‘I think they [studios] are always thinking about that,’ she said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

‘All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script. I think we’re both totally open; it has just never happened.’

McConaughey, 54, previously claimed the film perfectly ‘teed up’ a sequel, telling E!’s Daily Pop in 2020: ‘I mean, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is teed up, you know, teed up for one that you could easily do a sequel. And that was a really good one.

‘As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one.’

The pair recently made nods to the film, with McConaughey teaming up with his wife Camilla Alves to recreate the movie poster.

Elsewhere, Hudson alluded to a scene in which her character made Ben miss the final shot at a Knicks game as she watched game five of the World Series with a friend in October.

The popular rom com saw Ben desperately resisting all temptation to dump Andie despite her getting him punched in a movie theater for talking loudly, presenting him with a fern plant to represent their love and buying him a Chinese Crested Dog.

But just as they start to let their guards down, Andie learns of Ben’s bet and the pair famously trade blows on stage while singing Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain.

He later chases her across New York after reading her article on how she ‘lost the only guy I’ve ever fallen for’ before pulling her over on the Manhattan Bridge and professing his love.

The film also starred Kathryn Hahn and Annie Parisse as Andie’s friends Michelle and Jeannie, as well as Adam Goldberg and Thomas Lennon as Ben’s pals Tony and Thayer.
