Angelina Jolie reacts to the 'most insane question' she's ever been asked

Angelina Jolie was recently left stunned by a reporter's 'insane' interview question.

It was asked during the Oscar-winner's, 49, recent interview with The Sunday Times, where she discussed portraying legendary opera singer Maria Callas in the buzzy biopic Maria.

Jolie is no stranger to playing real-life people onscreen as she previously starred as late supermodel Gia Carangi in Gia (1998) and acclaimed French journalist Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart (2007).

But when asked about the potential for a biopic on her own illustrious career, Jolie quickly shot the idea down.

'That gets the most insane question award,' she responded. 'When you're a public person and you're playing [someone else], you're conscious of how you would hate for somebody to interpret your life or think they understand your life, so we tried to be thoughtful [with Maria].

'Let's hope there isn't one about my life,' she concluded.

In the same interview with The Sunday Times, the Changeling star also spoke about aging in Hollywood and whether or not its affected the roles she's offered.

'I’ve got better work as I’ve got older,' the mom-of-six revealed. 'I don’t think about it in terms of roles offered but in terms of life experience you contribute.

She added, 'It’s easier for actors than singers or dancers because your body doesn’t change.'

While disagreeing with Maria Callas's fear about her power diminishing with age, Jolie admired the late singer's 'commitment' to work.

'I'm a hard worker,' she shared. 'And a deeply feeling person. Maria is vulnerable because she feels and isn’t sometimes able to protect herself from the loneliness or emotional pain. Because it’s part of her life and work to be extremely human and live that way.

'You live through your communication with the audience. For Maria and for me that has always been extremely important.'

Early in her career, Jolie was a dedicated method actress.

During the filming of Gia, she immersed herself so deeply in the role of a drug-addicted supermodel that she told her then-husband, Jonny Lee Miller, she wouldn't be able to call him from set.

This intense commitment led her to briefly retire from acting, as she felt she had 'nothing else to give.'

She adds, 'As a young actor you say yes to everything. Can you ride horses? Can you speak this language? Then you have to learn.'

Jolie's career includes an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1999 film 'Girl, Interrupted.'

She became an international star with her portrayal of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider film series, in 2001 and 2003.

Some of her other notable films include 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith,' 'Wanted,' 'Salt,' and 'Maleficent.'

Maria was directed by Pablo Larrain - who is behind other projects such as Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).

Along with Jolie, other stars that have been cast in the film include Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

In August, the biopic first premiered during the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion.

The movie had a limited theatrical release in the United States beginning on November 27 - and will drop on Netflix on December 11.

The premise of the film is: 'Maria Callas, the world's greatest opera singer, lives the last days of her life in 1970s Paris, as she confronts her identity and life,' per an IMDB synopsis.

Elsewhere in the interview she shared that, unlike Callas, she is not a lonely person, thanks to her large family.

'I don’t feel that because I have family. Maria didn’t have a family, so her work was everything. My work is not everything. Being a parent is everything.'

The Maleficent actress — who has ignited Oscars buzz over her portrayal of Callas in the biopic — shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, as well as twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, with ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60.

The pair married in 2014, but filed for divorce in 2016 before being declared legally single in 2019.

However, Angelina and Brad are set to head to trial next year amidst a legal battle over their French vineyard.

Brad is notably estranged from his six children - with both Shiloh and Vivienne dropping the last name of Pitt.

A source recently told People that his kids haven't spent 'extensive time' with the actor's own parents for over five years.

The insider continued that his six children only have 'limited' contact with Brad's side of the family - but a separate source close to Jolie shared a differing viewpoint on the situation.

'Angelina has not blocked any communications or relationships; rather she encourages them to be in touch with their grandparents.'

'The kids send cards and gifts to their grandparents every year for their birthdays and Christmas,' the insider explained to the outlet.
