This is a story about a New York chef, her problematic mother and the various people that end up together in the aftermath of a horrible hurricane. It takes place at a run down bed and breakfast on the Jersey shore. The main character’s mother has won the inn by way of one of the many contests she enters. It’s just another one of her mother’s many such plans that always end up with her helping her out of it. Only this time she can’t get her out of it. When she’s stuck there during the hurricane and the town she’s in has been partially decimated, she finds that her restaurant in NYC has been ruined by the same hurricane. When the town starts sending people that lost everything to stay at the inn, the two women have to work together on both the inn and their shaky relationship.
I enjoyed the story the author has told and all of the characters that she included staying at the inn. Everyone had a story good or bad, but it all added to the book and kept me listening. There’s a lot of growth that happens to these characters by the end. There’s also a couple of romances for the women although they definitely take a backseat to the rest of the story and that was okay with me. Recommended to readers that enjoy women’s fiction. Good read!...more

It’s Christmas and 6 year old Ree is having a major problem of the paranormal sort. He needs to find the Santa that helped him before all his Aunt Lucy’s problems and therefore his as well, got straightened out. The adults don’t get it but then they don’t understand what’s happening to him.
This was sweet and a bit scary at times but very heartwarming in the end. I really enjoyed it....more

When the series ended I knew I was really going to miss the characters and all the mystery and suspense involved in their life. This novella wrapped it all up for us quite nicely. No, there wasn’t a mystery case this time. Instead, this was all centered around Raven and Christian’s wedding. Of course, Raven being Raven means she has left everything for the last minute. It really took a village or rather a certain paranormal agency to help get it all taken care of. Wyatt and Shepherd were the highlight while doing their particular errand. It was great to see all our favorite characters shown and catching up with all of them. Raven and Christian really are the best couple and their romance shines throughout the story. Amazing ending to an amazing series.
I listened and as always Nicole Poole was simply wonderful with all her many voices and of course Christian’s Irish accent! 5 stars for narration....more

This is book 2 of the Sparrow Hill Stories and I loved every minute of the read. The first book, Broken Records, was just a tad better and that one garnered a full 5 stars. The characters from book 1 do show up a few times so that was fun as well.
It's the story of a professor on sabbatical who decides to do the complete Rt66 in a van. After being in a horrific car accident he is still healing his mind and body. His mind seems to be the hardest part of healing. When he meets a jilted groom at a wedding, he ends up with a passenger for the trip to California. It ends up being quite the adventure, the trip of a lifetime and actually a wonderful romance.
The main characters were wonderfully realized by the author and they were people I would love in real life. The rest of the characters were family members that were featured in book 1 as well. So I already loved all of them. Of course, there are also a few more met on the highway.
This was a feel good story and romance with a bit more angst than book 1, but I forgave it due to circumstances. I think this made it into my top reads of the year due to how invested I was in the characters and their relationship. I highly recommend this to adult readers of m/m, in this case bi/bi. For those not wanting or afraid to read steamy times between men, this one would be the one to try. There's some, but certainly not as explicit as some are, by any means....more

The main character might be on the autism spectrum, it’s not stated but her actions make me think so. Or maybe she’s just a person who has to plan every minute of her life, doesn’t seem to like people but really does and as a bonus(not)has horrible anxiety at times. Her love interest is as normal as can be and just an all around good guy.
I enjoyed the romance but there is way more to this story. Finding out she is in her wealthy father’s will after he dies is one surprise but finding out who her father was is an even bigger surprise. Never having known his name or anything was an interesting concept especially when she’s now got a huge family she never knew about. And some of them are not nice while others made up for the bad ones.
Throughout the whole story books feature hugely. She loves books, loves reading, works in a bookstore etc. It’s the biggest part of her life. The other part was her love of trivia and her trivia nights out with her team.
I loved it and recommend it to readers age 15 plus. Maybe even younger. 14? I am not sure to be honest. There’s no bad language or smut and love scenes are off the page. There’s a lot of talk about sex etc though. ...more

I found this a couple of days ago and was really happy. I had no idea this book existed or I would have already read it. Needless to say, I really enjoy this authors work.
It's the story of a young woman going back to her childhood home for the first time in ten years. Her father died back then and her mother moved her and her sister to California just days after his death. Callie has grieved her father alone due to her mothers refusal to let them mourn. Going back brings her so much happiness when she realizes how much the town still loves her family. Meeting the now adult boy that was like a brother to her again brings her even more happiness. But this time he's not anything like a brother.
This story is not your typical contemporary romance. Well it is and it isn't. It definitely has a woman's literature vibe at times but also a contemporary one as well. I hope that makes sense.
The main character's were wonderfully fleshed out and nothing short of amazing.. Both have gone through a lot to get to the place they are at. The side characters were well realized as well. The small town and its residents are a big part of this as well. So, it's a small town romance with so much heart. And some steamy moments thrown in.
There's so much more to this story. I highly recommend it to adult romance readers or even woman's literature readers. Personally, I loved every minute of this read. So good! ...more

This book was one of those that you can barely put down once started. It's about a once in a lifetime love that starts out with way more than its share of problems. It's a fun, yet steamy, story about a young woman who can't seem to pick the right guy. It's about the man that meets her after his divorce and is pretty much smitten immediately. It's about the lies that get told and the secrets that don't come out exactly when they should. There's loving family, dogs, best friends and a villain you'll want to smack upside the head(no violence), just that you will want to. It's funny at times and a tiny bit sad at others. I personally loved the whole thing and highly recommend it to adult romance readers. ...more

This series still continues to be a win for me. The original story line continues this time with veterinarian, Marie, as the main character instead of Calla. Marie had been in love with her best friend Jonah for years and it's only after he falls for Calla that Marie realizes she needs to move on with her life. Jonah is still her best friend, but now she is happy for him. When Tyler moves to town with his kennel of dogs ready to run the Iditarod she finds hope again. But Tyler is fighting his own demons and things are pretty iffy that he can ever forget his past.
From really not liking Marie in the first books, I completely came around to Marie's side. It didn't take long either. She was such a good person with a deep love of animals how could I not care about her character? Tyler starts out not so great but that doesn't take long to change for the better. He's been through a lot but he's a good guy with a deep sense of right and wrong. He came to Alaska thinking he would never have another relationship. Yeah, that wasn't happening!
There's a lot a good in this book and the series. Besides the romance, I enjoyed seeing Calla and Marie become friendly. And of course as her best friend, Jonah was there with advice and anything else she needed. Mabel and Agnes moved to town and that was fun catching up with them as well. Lots of really good side personalities completed a fully fleshed out cast of characters.
Tucker has given her readers another wonderfully written story in her Simple Wild world. An extra plus was a look at the running of the Iditarod and about the dogs and people that participate in it. I enjoyed the story immensely and gave it 4.5 stars....more

Wonderful story of an elderly woman who decides to leave England and go on one last road trip to America and the iconic Route 66. In a souped up mustang convertible no less. She hires a young woman to drive her-not knowing that the woman is scared to death to drive-much less drive car like that. Her daughter, who is very uptight, wants her to stay home and think about going into an assisted living type home. That wasn’t going to happen. So the reader is treated to the blossoming friendship of the two woman. Along the way, they are accompanied by a man who is grieving the loss of his brother. We follow the trio all along the route as they all bond and start healing. Healing because all of them have baggage they need to let go of and what better time to do so? The woman’s daughter is going through her own crisis as well and runs away from home and her family to stay at her mother’s beach house.
I loved the relationships in this book and the healing of some relationships as well. There’s even a sweet romance that happens, but is not the main crux of the story which was fine with me. The road trip was fun and while central to the story was not the main reason to read this book. Friendships, long held grudges, a possible failing marriage, a mother and daughter who never really bonded and of course the romance were way more important.
I thoroughly enjoyed the listen and highly recommend it to women’s fiction readers. ...more

The Delight Scottish highlands, a broken laird and the lass he has no right to want. What’s not to love? It’s a historical story with all the wondrous trappings of a romance to both swoon for and be delighted by.
Review Years ago I read way more than my share of Scottish highland romances, mainly during high school and they were pretty tame back then. Recently, I got back into reading some historical romance and thought I would try this one when I saw it on Net Galley. It ended up being a fairly good read with some really heartwarming moments.
Lachland MacKenzie is the Laird of Black Isle, but in truth, hasn’t been much of one for over two years. After losing his wife and daughter in a fire, he became withdrawn and uncommunicative. When he hears that is daughter might be alive and all he has to do is kidnap a young woman to trade for his daughter, there’s really no question. Of course, he knows the man is a scoundrel, but he is only focused on his daughter. Mailie MacGregor has turned down a perfectly horrible man named Ranald Sinclair and wants nothing to do with him. When she goes to market day with several members of her family, she wants nothing more than a nice afternoon out. Getting kidnapped was not on her agenda.
I had fun getting to know the two main characters, Mailie in particular. She’s spunky, courageous and determined to find her way back home. She’s also beautiful, sweet and caring. Lachlan never knew what hit him the day he brought her home. He’s been broken for over two years and wants nothing more than to see or speak to no one except for his old nursemaid, Ruth. Mailie is a breath of fresh air to the dark and dingy castle she finds herself in. Since they have to wait two weeks for word to reach Sinclair, she has lots of time to change things. I pictured Lachland like a huge lumberjack or something similar. He’s strong as an Ox, but he has a marshmallow heart. He’s also his horribly scarred on one side of his face. Beauty and the Beast anyone?
This was my first book by Paula Quinn so I had no idea what I was getting before reading this. I now know she’s a very prolific writer and I definitely would be willing to read another book by her. The romance and sensual scenes she writes were almost perfect for this couple. The initial premise was a good one as well. One problem with the book came in the middle when the action really lags. I even put it down for awhile, not sure if I was going to finish it. At almost four hundred pages, I think at least fifty pages could have been trimmed as unnecessary to the story-if not more. I persevered and ended up enjoying the rest of the read. And not to be picky, but the cheesy lines during some of the more sensual scenes literally had me shaking my head. But who knows, maybe they actually talked like that back then? As far as the heartwarming moments, I am going to leave that to the reader to discover. Just know there are actually quite a few of them.
For adults that love a good sensual Highland romance, I do recommend this book. (Originally posted on Delighted Reader)...more

I certainly have-all of them. And I have absolutely loved all of them. It was a shock to learn that this is the last of the witches of Witch Central we will ever read about, and I will miss them.
Most of these books revolve around the Sullivan and Walker families, their extended family, and friends. For the most part, they are all witches, with all different kinds of magic. Water witches, fire witches, earth witches, they are all represented, but with this story another sort of witch, finds her magic, and it isn’t good.
Nell and Daniel Walker are the parents of five children, which include a set of eleven year old, triplett girls. Ginia found her magic early, she’s an extraordinary healer. Shay has no magic, but she has her own great attributes. Up until now, Mia showed no signs of any magic, so when she suddenly exhibits signs of fire magic, all the fire witches are ready to start training her. What they don’t know, is that Mia is evolving into something that hasn’t been seen in over five hundred years, and it’s scary to say the least.
The best word to describe these books is heartwarming. Charming works too. They are always fast, well written reads, and feature a different witch in each book. The witch is usually facing some sort of problem, or just finding their particular magic. By this point, I feel like I know them all, and care about them all. Meeting their significant others, falling in love, having babies, this is how these witches live. There is so much love in these books, whether between a couple, parents, and their children, cousins, well you get the idea. It’s all held together by an old Irish witch named, Moira, the family matriarch. She lives in a small fishing village on the coast of Nova Scotia, where parts of these stories take place. It also takes place in California, and since the witches can port themselves to wherever they want to go, it totally works.
This book was shorter then the others, except the novellas. The author went through a personal crisis, and is unable to finish with the series. She took pains to try and wrap it all up in an epilogue, and I did enjoy the glimpses in the future that we get. I do regret not getting Aervyn’s grown up story-that’s the one I really wanted. Aervyn, also one of Nell and Daniel’s children, will grow up to be the most powerful witch that has ever lived(not a spoiler), and even at the age of four, surpassed all the adults. He, and Lizard, a female witch, and former delinquent, were my favorite characters of the series, and thankfully we did get Lizard’s grown up story, in a previous book. There is so much more to these stories, I could go on and on, like that there’s a magical realm game on the internet, run by witches, and mainly for witches, or that there’s always someone learning a life lesson, but there is just not enough room to tell it all. Suffice it to say, these are witches getting their happy ever after, and all they go through to get it-surrounded by love and magic, at every turn.
All of these books for the most part, top the Amazon charts when they are released, and if the reviews are any indication, are very beloved by all that read them. They certainly were to me. As I write this, eight of these books are listed in the top twenty fantasy reads on Amazon-including the top two spots. If it was me, I would start with A Modern Witch, the first book in the three series featuring these witches. I recommend them to ages 14 up. (RabidReads.com)...more
