Narration 5 stars The narration made this book for me. The writing was good but I am glad that I listened because it was like watching a good movie-on the edge of my seat.
So much happens there’s barely room to breathe at times. Action, mystery, suspense, murder and even kidnapping kept me completely engaged. I especially enjoyed the main character, a feisty, female crime reporter who wants to make it to a major newspaper eventually. I also enjoyed her crotchety boss that she loves like her father. And I’ll admit it, I loved the mafia guy that helps her out of some bad jams at times. Not a fan of mafia books so this was surprising to me. Of course there’s a villain, one that I had crossed off my list of suspects, although he was a bit on my radar at times. Some good red herrings are thrown into the mix as well.
If you are looking for a romance, this isn’t one. At first I wanted there to be one and then it was so good I didn’t care if there was one or not. I highly recommend this to older young adults to adults. There is plenty of violence so probably ages 15+ and up. Fantastic listen/read!...more

It’s a novella and takes just under 3 hours to listen, but I honestly think it was a fully told story unlike a lot of novellas. We get back story and and plenty of good supporting characters. I enjoyed the romance and really liked both of the main characters.
Recommended to adult contemporary romance readers, especially ones that enjoy a Christmas setting. ...more

Had I known how good it was that never would have happened. Of course, I love the author and her series with Cat and Bones is one of my very favorites so I should have known. Lots of paranormal romance, violence and action are all featured so it had hooked me from the beginning.
Narration by Travis Gilbert was good with one exception. I could barely get past her accent and voice for Bones. It pulled me out of the story every time. But still a solid 4 star listen for me.
Recommended to all adult paranormal romance fans. There’s also more than a hint of urban fantasy as well, but I’d classify it a paranormal romance. ...more

However, since it was so long and the plot so intricate, at times I lost tract of who was who. So many characters to try and keep up with and so at times I ended up a bit lost. A group of homicide cops, a group of bad guys, and a group of victims all made for a good story that I did enjoy.
This was a dark read for so many reasons. Serial killer? Check. Human trafficking? Check. Main character with a dark secret that she’s still learning about. Check. Heinous and depraved acts. Check. Equally depraved and heinous rich characters check. But, there’s also a good story with awesome characters. Narration was extra good as usual by this narrator.

Both are good people with hopes and dreams, but for the hero, dreams are on the back burner due to a conviction for robbery when he was younger. Now he can only be a bike messenger. I even found that to be interesting, the job entailing all kinds of injuries and horrible weather and long hours. The heroine is a graphic artist that bet on everything she had to travel to the city, somehow thinking she could get her book published immediately. She is very talented, but then so are lots of others.
There's some angst of course, but what good romance doesn't have some? Setbacks occur and romance happens and I enjoyed every engaging moment of this read. I loved the writing, the pace, and of course, the characters. I listened and it was a good choice as I enjoyed the narration as well. Just an all around good read/listen.

The undead piglet named Bacon, was an inspired addition to the story. And the reason for some of the lighter moments in the book. Octavia carries him around in a baby carrier attached to her chest. He has to be my favorite part of the book. Well, that and the heroine’s snark. Very short listen. I’ll definitely be looking for the next one. I think they are all novellas and that’s fine as long as they are as witty as this one. Recommended to light urban fantasy readers....more

Unsolved mystery from the past stirs up all sorts of problems for a true crime writer. Problems because she’s been gone from the small town a long time and the person murdered was her sister. Also included in the town is her old boyfriend and his young son. People don’t want her there and make it known to her even if it’s her own hometown. All sorts of people could be the culprit and the writer is determined to figure the mystery out. Meanwhile the culprit is determined she doesn’t. I enjoyed the whole thing!

I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, and the romance was especially good in this one. 4.25 stars.
The narration by Christina Traister continues to impress me. Great changes of tone and voices for men kept me in the story and not unsatisfied with the male voices as with so many female narrators. Very enjoyable and earned a 5 star for narration from me.

Narration 5 stars for the wonderful Roslyn Landor. Not my favorite by this usually fantastic author, but a fairly good story made even better by the narration. The characters seem to be apart more than they were together and yes, it’s an enemy to lover story, but it also deals with a big secret. That plot device played out until very close to the end. By that time I almost didn’t care what the big reveal was going to be, although we did find out. Not saying anything more about that other than I was thinking “all that for that?”. And after all that was said and done, another storyline wasn’t brought to conclusion satisfactorily for me.
I did for the most part enjoy the story. This was the first book in a series and as I quite liked the peripheral characters, I’m interested in seeing where their stories are going. I also really enjoyed the whole first part of the book. And I do like this author’s vision of Regency England and her vivid descriptions of the life among the”ton”. And yes, a character suffering from a brain tumor makes a huge questionable mistake, but I think it just shows how ill he was and how determined he was to make things right. I can honestly say that this is probably the funniest book I’ve ever read or can remember reading. I laughed throughout the read and not just a little laugh. These were side busting laughs out loud. I can see this author duo writing many more rom-coms and I will be first in line to listen when they do.
Andi Arndt was both the narrator and the co-author. She is perfection as a young Minnesota woman living in a small town. The heroine is extremely bright, and has just been laid off as a kindergarten teacher. She wants to do her own thing now. So she takes a job in a recording studio. Pretty quickly, she realizes that the books that are being narrated are women’s erotica. That, of course, goes against all her principles. But hey, she needed the job and it’s just the thing to help put herself out there. The hero is her next door neighbor and is the epitome of what she wants in a man. He’s Intelligent, interesting, handsome, nice and is very happy to have found a job he loves and of course a woman he loves even more. Side characters were mainly comprised of her family members and some people from her new job. They were all just as well realized as the main characters. And also made for some really cringe worthy moments and/or laugh out loud moments at times.
I am going to leave it at that. I found the story to be well written and as I said before amazingly funny. It may be funny but it’s also an adult read. I highly recommend this to adult rom-com readers as well as contemporary romance readers. Or listeners. Now available on the Escape Package on Audible. ...more
