This one features Christian De Olio, head of the Delphic Security Team, and Michael Bond, director of the Delphic Agency. They had a brief relationship fifteen years ago until Michael left to go explore the world. During that time, Christian joined the military and came back to be head of security at Delphic. When Michael finally returns to take up his position as the director, neither seems ready to face the other, or what they once seem to have. But they are forced to work together to bring down an underground, illegal, BDSM ring in their town. It's not just that it's competing with them, but the ring isn't true BDSM like Delphic, where consent is the number one rule. Christian and Michael must train as a Dominant and submissive pair to go in as a couple to infiltrate the ring. This brings back all of their memories and old feelings that they have to deal with before the real work can begin. Both men are terribly flawed, but they are able to work through their issues with some creative kinks and some help from a co-worker to get themselves back to where they want to be. And they deal with the slimy owner of the illegal BDSM ring while they are at it.
This one seems much darker than the two previous books. I think that's because of the other illegal BDSM ring they are having to deal with and what they see and deal with there. It's just as much of a joy to read as the other books in the series though. I love the examination of the flawed relationship and seeing how they deal with their issues and work through them to come out better men on the other side. Great writing and good world building. I highly recommend it to those who love BDSM.

The story does deal with things such as rape, abuse, masochism, PTSD, and some major kinks. What adds an extra twist here is that the characters are a priest and one who is retired military and trained in interrogation. There's a lot of struggling with inner demons at the start, which creates some strain. But two damaged characters are finally able to deal with issues enough that they make a great couple, each feeding off the other.
The writing is very well done with really nice character development. If kinks are your thing, this one is definitely for you.

Mark, who is sixteen, is kidnapped by Joey, an accountant in his early thirties. Mark very much wants to get away from his captor in the beginning, but we watch over the time they are together, which is fairly significant, how Joey twists Mark's mind and makes him into another person. It's frightening to think that someone's mind can be twisted in such a way that they could seem to care about their captor. We've seen it happen before, but it's really twisted what Mark lives through. ...more

Nikolai procures untrained slaves to make them into obedient and perfect slaves so he can then sell them to his clients. His biggest challenge is in breaking the bond between Matt and Dougie. The psychological torture as well as the physical is brutal. It's heart breaking too. It gets really dark. Both Matt and Dougie are faced with the fact that they are slaves and their basic human rights have been taken from them. Their lives have been erased. Like you would expect, they don't accept this and there are very brutal consequences. There are places where it's brutal to read. My heart went out to Matt and Dougie. I wanted to snatch them up and rescue them. As dark, violent, and twisted as this series is, I absolutely love it. There is so much depth to it and the characters. It's so well written. But I'm going to have to wait a couple of weeks I think before I read the third season. I read the first two back to back and it's pretty gut wrenching. It wrings you out. I think I need to take a breath between two and three.

It's dark, violent, contains rape, and torture. It's well written, great dialogue, and the world building and settings are wonderfully done as to put you right there. But it also has lots of feels. You hate the bad guys with a passion, but you love Matt and Douglas, or Dougie, as Matt calls him and worry for them. The things that happen to them are horrible, but like others have said, it's like a horrible event you can't turn away from. If you like stories that are dark and twisted with violence, this one is perfect. ...more
