A Complete Flop Book. The only good thing about this book was large amount of white space around the pages which helped me to endure this 343 page torture. I don't understand why some people liked it so much and gave it 5 or 4 stars. I believe if it was not been written by George Saunders, nobody had given a FUCK to this book. The author, I felt, just to garner praise irrelevantly narrated 166 voices. But I think it went awry. This book literally had no substance and it made me very angry. There was no story. Lincoln'son died and he was mourning. That's all. THERE WAS LITERALLY NO STORY. All hollow characters with their hollow conversation, no bout of any emotion. I just dragged myself throughout the length but finally my patient also gave up around 310 pages. I wasted my 600 Indian rupees on this book :(....more
I tried till page number 160. Couldn't make head or tail of the book. I mean I was not able to extract what was it being tried to get from this book. I tried till page number 160. Couldn't make head or tail of the book. I mean I was not able to extract what was it being tried to get from this book. where it is going and all. It was boring. Though it was beautiful but with no emotions. Not for me. I am sure on that. Two stars only for my love for Richard Flanagan. ...more
A very good sleep inducer, cure for sleeplessness, dose for insomniacs like me. It really worked spending 1200 Indian rupees on these sleeping pills dA very good sleep inducer, cure for sleeplessness, dose for insomniacs like me. It really worked spending 1200 Indian rupees on these sleeping pills dissolved in these action packed 296 pages, that made me abhor myself. Daily by bedtime I used to read ten page but before even coming to eighth pages sleep was caressing her hands over me. Guaranteed.
I am really afraid I also brought 'Watchmen' and not able to gather the courage to take it.
So it took me almost two months, to decide that this book was not my types. Finally I am abandoning it just 30 pages before of its finish. Life is too short to waste time on such things.
PS: There are only a few books that I left some page before and even on that it ranks first as worst-book-ever. I have no clue why others liked it so much....more

FSo here we have ... the worst book of life award goes to 'The Ministry of Utmost Happiness'. My happiness was crushed soon after page number 100 ... For me 'The God of Small things' was like a temple and this book was almost like a nightmare.
I didn't like the book - boring politics -Kashmir issues - My all happiness turned into ashes - I don't care about events in the book - Terrorism - Gujarat ka Lalla - Though I don't admire Narendra Modi - Still too much bitching about him was there in it - Boring! Boring! - No story - Real life Political commentary - I loved Anjum - I wanted to slap Tilottama - Too much boring Politics - Kashmir Terrorism - Loved till only page number 100 - After it everything was torture - Struggle till page number 400 - Not sure if I am going to read last 30 pages - Arundhati Roy why did you do this to me - Loss of faith.
I think I need to redeem myself so will read again 'The God of Small thing' and Roy's other non-fiction.
One mark out of five and that is too only for Anjum in the book....more
I did not sleep for two weeks when I read Amsterdam. It was so good. I did not read for two weeks when I read Atonement. It was so bad.

It was bad. I was fuddled whether it was from Ian McEwan or someone else. I have no clue why this book is so much celebrated. I dragged myself till page number 330 ... And by seeing that my reading interest was evaporating I abandoned this book in between chucking out last 40 pages.
One of the biggest disappointment for me. Completely Unrealistic. 1.5/5 only because I like Ian McEwan....more
