While CS Poe is known for her mysteries and amateur sleuthing of murders, this lovely tale has no grisly murder. Instead, we get a little bit of a mystery, a hot date with dirty talk (ohhhh, I wanted more of that), and a second date!
I would eat these two up if they full up the pages of a fulll-length novel!

I really enjoyed reading this story in the Royal Powers verse.
What I liked: Secret powers Tasty visions of royal skin Smart commoners—always they’re smarter than the royals Sequestering 2 fake fiancées for 24 hours Sexy times Sweetness
Misses: King Bastian isn’t quick on the uptake Self-doubt by Nico, the commoner—constant doubting Odd plot conflict/climax—OTT in the house!!
Overall, I enjoyed reading & really like the alternate universe Russell created where people have superpowers in our modern day.
These two characters are so very different from each other: one a wildlife vet, the other a grifter.
What they Wow! Simply, wow! I live for these guys!
These two characters are so very different from each other: one a wildlife vet, the other a grifter.
What they have in common is trying to find a missing man: a friend to one, a brother to the other.
The mystery of missing Benny leads them into dangerous territory. As much as this aspect of the story hooked me, what really drew me in was how the two men interacted with each other.
They were awkward, funny, real, and shielded. I kept waiting for secrets to drop, for tidbits of truth to come out & it had me on a wonderful edge.
Tean, the vet, made me laugh with his constant grim statistics. Jem, the con man, delighted me with his quick thinking. Both men held pain in their past, and they slowly, so very slowly let it out.
The two do solve the mystery. The two do get together. Tean does find out about Jem’s past. Do they get past it? In a way.
Are they still together at the end? As Jem said, like two rovers on the opposite sides of Mars.
Can I wait for the next audiobook? No!! I may have to read the next one straightaway!!
Things to watch out for: 1. Tean’s ex/not ex/but is married/and Mormon. He’s a piece of work. 2. Tean’s inability to say no. 3. Jem’s lies & cons. 4. Trivia.
Great performance by JF Harding, although a few times I had trouble telling Jem and Tean apart....more
This installment of the Coffin Nails MC, was just OK for me.
I found the story wanting reality somewhat, but this is KAOTT, Ok plot, GREAT DIRTY TALK!
This installment of the Coffin Nails MC, was just OK for me.
I found the story wanting reality somewhat, but this is KA Merikan we are talking about & I know that OTT is what I’m getting.
I listened to the audiobook for this...perhaps that was why this was just an OK listen for me. I’ve enjoyed Wyatt Baker in the past, but his performance here isn’t one of his best.
Good points: Virgin Eager virgin Christian eager virgin DIRTY TALK Age gap Cameos from previous books
This started out as a solid 4 star read....but, it soon devolved into a “that’s what you’re going with?” 2.5 finish.
This is a new to me author. I askThis started out as a solid 4 star read....but, it soon devolved into a “that’s what you’re going with?” 2.5 finish.
This is a new to me author. I asked for this ARC. I liked the blurb. And I liked this:
+Great dialogue—it sounded like real conversations. +More showing than telling at the beginning. +Class/social gap angle +BIPOC MC
Where it was off:
-I needed more on the mystery angle. Too much personal stuff & sex vs. plot. -The mystery wasn’t explored and was rather straightforward. Very easy to guess. -The MC was too trusting/gullible, esp for a financial analyst. -The reveal was an avalanche of words, none of which had been previously alluded to in the story. -The resolution/epilogue was strange & I no longer felt invested in the guys.
This could have been a great book—it needed to be longer. The MC needed to be a little more clued in—he was supposedly an ace at his job, but he couldn’t figure out some of what was going on??
I enjoyed the first half of this book, even if the mystery angle wasn’t strong. I enjoyed the initial chemistry between the men.
My rec? Take this with a grain of salt, be willing to forgive, and you’ll likely enjoy this book—fab dialogues!
