An imaginative and intriguing YA dystopian with fantasy elements perfect for fans of Hunger Games.
Simone Athilla is a strong female personality with An imaginative and intriguing YA dystopian with fantasy elements perfect for fans of Hunger Games.
Simone Athilla is a strong female personality with a fiery temper and the braveness of a mother lion in battle. Having never known her birth parents, she cherishes President Felix and his son Trémon who took her in and treated her like family. Her character is the perfect counterpart for the villain, Damian who seeks to overthrow them all but has secrets of his own that change the dynamic of the story.
The world building in the futuristic society is detailed, consistent, and paints a clear picture of the main locales the story takes place in. Also, the scientific and technological components add an interesting element to the storyline.
The plotting and pacing unravels at an even keel with interesting twists and turns, leading to an ending that bridges this story into the upcoming second book in the series.
Fans of young adult fantasy and dystopian will definitely enjoy this intriguing tale.
The Age of Larkspur by Aleighsha Parke is a captivating fantasy adventure that weaves together elements of Icelandic folklore with a richly descriptivThe Age of Larkspur by Aleighsha Parke is a captivating fantasy adventure that weaves together elements of Icelandic folklore with a richly descriptive narrative. The story follows Flora, a young woman who has spent her life hiding in the trees, avoiding the cursed, poisonous larkspur growing from her ankle—a constant reminder of the magic that is slowly draining her life away. But when her adopted mother is kidnapped by a cruel witch, Flora is thrust into a perilous quest to save her, forcing her to confront her fears and the curse that haunts her.
Parke’s writing vividly brings the natural world to life, immersing readers in the lush landscapes and the mystical elements of Flora’s journey. Fans of fantasy and adventure will find themselves enchanted by the story’s blend of magic, danger, and self-discovery. Flora is a strong female lead who, like Elsa from Frozen, must learn to harness her unique nature-based powers. However, Parke’s story stands out on its own, offering a fresh and imaginative take on the classic hero’s journey.
One of the standout characters is Kaanan, the darkly intriguing stranger Flora encounters on her quest. His presence adds depth to the story, and I found myself eagerly following his interactions with Flora. The tension between them adds an extra layer of excitement, making their relationship one of the highlights of the book.
The story builds to a fabulous ending that leaves readers satisfied, yet eager for more. There are subtle hints that a sequel might be in the works, and if that’s the case, I can’t wait to see where Flora’s journey takes her next.
Overall, The Age of Larkspur is a highly enjoyable read that will appeal to young adults and anyone who loves a good fantasy tale with strong characters and an immersive setting. Aleighsha Parke has crafted a world that is both magical and perilous, and Flora’s story is one that readers won’t soon forget.
When David’s mother buys an antique water fountain, David is thrust into another adventure with magical rabbits and other animals. Can he stop the FogWhen David’s mother buys an antique water fountain, David is thrust into another adventure with magical rabbits and other animals. Can he stop the Foglinians’ thieving and destruction in the Below Lands? David and the Foglinian Menace is a delight for young readers. Janyce Brawn writes stories elementary and middle-grade readers enjoy reading. The plot is easy to follow with adventure, obstacles to overcome, and relatable circumstances steeped in fantasy. The narration is written in a kid-friendly tone with colorful detail. The flow allows young readers to understand what’s going on and immerse themselves in the story. The characters are colorful and leap from the page.
Let’s start with the characters. David is a regular young boy who has a loving family. He’s written with a realistic pen and kids will relate to him. His reactions ring true, especially when he interacts with magical rabbits, cats, birds, and the Foglinians. This is so important in a story like this. Kids need to be able to put themselves in David’s shoes and they can easily in David and the Foglinian Menace.
The fantasy plot is well-conceived with detailed world-building. Janyce Brawn creates a world that is realistic and filled with fantasy creatures. The good thing about this world-building is that there isn’t any swearing, and the content is rated G, perfect for kids. Parents, rest assured your children will love this fantasy story and you will appreciate the age-appropriate themes in David and the Foglinian Menace.
This is my first book by Janyce Brawn and as a fantasy reader, I loved it. A nice balance of action, adventure, comedy, and overcoming obstacles. I can’t wait to read more from this author. If you love reading fantasy, pick up David and the Foglinian Menace.

The book is packed with action and features an intriguing plot that captivated me from the start. Despite not having read the first two books in the series, I quickly caught on and was swept away by the unfolding story. Dan Rice masterfully balances intricate world-building with fast-paced action, making for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
One of the standout aspects of the book was the final act, which takes place at Mauna Kea in Hawaii. The dramatic backdrop added a fresh and exhilarating dynamic to the narrative, ramping up the excitement and making the story even more engaging. I could feel the tension and stakes rising with every page, making it impossible to put the book down.
Another element that stood out was the portrayal of the faeries. They were the stuff of nightmares, completely shattering any whimsical notions I had from childhood. These faeries were terrifying and powerful, adding a dark and thrilling twist to the story. Their malevolent presence and the threat they posed were palpable, making them unforgettable antagonists.
The internal conflict within Allison, who is part human, part skaag, was really well done. Her struggle to reconcile these two parts of her identity added a deep and compelling layer to her character. This internal battle made her journey even more relatable and engaging, as she grappled with her dual nature and the challenges it presented.
All the characters are well-developed and realistic, each with their own distinct personalities that make them easy to either root for or despise. The vivid descriptions and high stakes made it easy to imagine The Wrath of Monsters as an action-packed movie on the big screen.
The Wrath of Monsters is a thoroughly enjoyable read that I would highly recommend. Although it's part of a series, it stands well on its own, making it accessible to new readers. However, for the full experience, starting with the first two books might provide a richer context. Whether you are a fan of fantasy, action, or thrilling adventures, this book is sure to satisfy.

Rarely has a god taken time to put pen to parchment and document his day-to-day experiences. Fans of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien will simply adore this book.
This book does soar but in a strong philosophical sense. You get to see the worlds through the eyes of a young god. The world building is incredible and that is literal too.
There truly is just one character and this makes a refreshing read. Epic fantasy for fantasy readers. A book unlike any other I have ever read. A mind expanding read for the fantasy reader.

Can Anaya use her powers for good or will she need to be killed before she goes rogue? Anaya Awakens is a feast for fantasy readers. Incorporating intricate world-building, descriptive narration, a large cast of characters, and high stakes, JCR Paulino writes an unputdownable read.
Let’s start with the world-building. JCR Paulino writes a world that is both familiar and yet original. The layers of detail are built upon each other to create an immersive reading experience. Each kingdom/village has its own identity and view on life. The more I read, the more invested I became. I honestly didn’t want to stop reading.
The characters are well written and enrich the story on so many levels. The main characters, especially Anaya, are colorful, original, and filled with emotion. Their beliefs, actions, and emotions influence how they react to extraordinary circumstances. The cast of characters is very large but not overwhelming.
The writing is brilliant, especially for the first book in a brand-new series. Each scene is well detailed with dialogue, action, and more. JCR Paulino is quickly becoming one of my favorite fantasy authors. I can’t wait to read what happens next.

Ember O’Neill knows firsthand how difficult it is to be differA thrilling debut YA fantasy novel perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters.
Ember O’Neill knows firsthand how difficult it is to be different. Throughout elementary school in small-town Kentucky, she grapples with unusually heightened senses making her the outcast. But as her sophomore year at Wilson High approaches, she vows to shake that image and fit in—a task that proves insurmountable until she dies, returns from the dead, and learns her abilities are paranormal. Her status as the ‘Dead Girl’ moves her up to the top of the social ladder, but also draws the attention of a heretical sect that wants her dead.
The characterization is well done. Ember is imperfect and relatable as are her closest friends Erick and Hallee, her love interest Logan, as well as a mysterious friend she meets while dream walking. Other minor characters play interesting roles in rounding out the high school experience and making Ember’s experiences feel real to the reader.
Suspense builds in the opening chapters and carries throughout an intricate, but easy to follow plot that reveals the truth about who Ember is, where she came from, what her special abilities, are most importantly—who her enemies are. Although the main storyline of the book is resolved, intriguing questions remain, leading into what I hope will be a second book.
Fans of faith-based fantasy and secret orders will love this book as much as I did.
The war to end all wars is on the horizon...will the White Storks of Mercy offer humanitarian aid to all who suffer, or will their plans be thwarted? The war to end all wars is on the horizon...will the White Storks of Mercy offer humanitarian aid to all who suffer, or will their plans be thwarted? The White Storks of Mercy - Reunion is book two of the trilogy and it is quite moving. The descriptive narration is immersive in its lyrical form. The characters are beautifully written. The historical accuracy is impressive. The world-building is flawless. The story itself will sweep you away.
Let's start with the characters. There are returning characters as well as new ones to interact with. Each of the 'white storks' have a backstory which shapes them into who they are today and how they transform to help the cause. I connected with all the characters and truly got caught up in the story. How each character reacts to humans' propensity for war is a dichotomy today.
The narration is so beautifully portrayed, it is the reason why I love reading this author's work. The way every scene, emotion, movement, and dialogue are detailed with an almost poetic nature allows the reader to become part of the story. The author paints a story like an artist with a canvas. Stunning.
The setting and world-building work well to offset the characters and action. The setting switches to various points in history but it's not jarring. The author takes her time with transitions as well as historical details. It allows the reader to soak it all in.
Another brilliant book by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, more than I did the first book. If you're looking for a lush, original story to dive into, pick up The White Storks of Mercy - Reunion.

It’s not technically romance as the couple is already together. I would call this Easter fantasy. The premise is original and captured my attention from the start. The characters, especially Melanie, are well-written and easy to relate to. Bunny Hunt is the perfect springtime read.
Let’s dive into the world-building. Margaret L. Carter takes a simple event like an Easter egg hunt and puts a creative spin on it. She creates a world that’s imaginative yet rooted in reality.
The narration is both descriptive and emotional. Melanie is struggling with conceiving a child and her emotions splash across the pages. The narration is very detailed so the reader can immerse themselves into the story.
The characters are well-written. As the main character, Melanie drives the story. Everything is seen through her eyes, as it should be. I connected with her right away. My heart rode a roller coaster as I experienced everything went through.
A touching springtime story, Bunny Hunt will move you.

The characters created are so relatable, they make a fantastic story that can appeal to any reader.
Superb for the YA market. The struggles 'Alex' has with her parents are simply another version of the real world struggles regular teens face. The world-building is first rate. A very creative brain was able to come up with some never-before-seen concepts and places.
If there is a flaw to this book, it is a small but significant one. A reader who throws themselves deeply into this work will be nonplussed by the ending. Nothing wrong with cliff hangers or multi-book series. They just need to answer a few questions and make sense.
A very well written book that will engage fans of Harry Potter fans and Lord of the Rings will also enjoy this work. Definitely worth the time to get into this story. A book that will have wide appeal to the vast young adult/teen fantasy audience.

The Party Monster review - Never heard of the story this was based on but that was no problem! The original is explained clearly so any reader will get the story with ease. Takes you in like reading a full novel and sweeps you away. Mind expanding and simply amazing. Would give this story 6 stars if I could.
For The Applause of Shadows review - Never understood the original by Poe. Didn't really understand this one either. May need a lot more psych than I took in my teens. Well written and could draw the reader deeper into the workings of the mind. Didn't really work for me but it was based on something that didn't either. 3.5 stars
Eat Me, Drink Me, Love Me review - Not familiar with this story but the recap totally made sense. The writing here is just so enjoyable. The presentation of the Goblins is the best part of this. They are so creatively presented, it is incredible. A brilliant little tale worth 6 stars too!
The Trampling review - Very familiar with the original story. An incredible original take on it here. The story is harsh and steely. A telling example of how what is here is reflective of life today. Consider how your i-phone is made and read this story. 5 stars
The Creeping Women review - Unlike anything I have ever read. Mind altering in its flow. Didn't know the story. Don't think I need to read the original now. Truly a creative original that I struggled to get. 4.5 stars
Invisible Men review - Love the original story and simply loved this alteration. Excellent writing. This could bring the original to a whole new audience. Just transfixing. 5 stars
Dorothy Rising review - If you have read or seen The Wizard of Oz, then you must read this story. It's a take on Oz like I never considered before. 4.5 stars
The Little Boy Who Grew Up review - Creativity is the key to this work. No one would think of a story about Peter Pan from this perspective. I recommend this story to everyone. 6 stars
The 24 Hour Brother review - As a big fan of the Brad Pitt oldie from 08, this story really worked for me. A wow factor here. I kept picturing Pitt in the scenes. Very well written and worth the time to read in depth. 6 stars
The Kafka Circus review – This book showed me once more that I have trouble getting Kafka. The great aspect here is the author totally gets Kafka and that makes it a great little read. Since my gf got me to read Kafka originally, I am making her read this story! Very well done. 5 stars
This anthology is a really great read I recommend to fans of classic stories with a modern twist.

If you like action, magic, intrigue, fun and excitement then this is your book.
I didn't read the first book but plan to get that on my kindle asap! Here, the boys are still on a quest for a fun if odd professor.
It doesn't take many pages for a knowing reader to get that feel for Harry Potter. There is almost a drinking game in reading this book. Every time you think Muggle should be used, take a drink!
Just excellent character development. The characters feel so real and are so realistic. Joseph and Eric are just my fave people. The whole people of the island are excellent too.
You can't help but feel this battle between the boys and the bad will go on and on. I want to be there reading every book of it from now on. This is a super fun book that will keep you glued to your reader!

I’m a big fan of destined heroines facing insurmountable odds. Rogue of the Crosslands: Azoria’s Blade is a masterpiece in the fantasy genre. It centers around Azoria and what she must overcome. Her strength, her willingness to do what others cannot, makes this book an incredible read. The world-building is strong. The descriptive narration is immersive. The characters leap from the page. I couldn’t put it down and neither will you.
It starts and ends with the characters, mainly Azoria. She is a tour de force and steals every scene. Her grief turns to strength which then turns her into an avenging angel of sorts. What makes her so wonderful, though, is how relatable she is. Even though she’s part of the elven race, I connected with her and her plight. By the time I finished reading, I wanted her for my best friend.
The world-building and descriptive narration work together to create an immersive reading experience. The world John Daze creates is seeped in fantasy yet totally believable. The narration is detailed and emotional. The reader has no choice but to become part of the story. It’s quite the experience.
The writing is sophisticated using classic Tolkienesque techniques. John Daze’s use of storytelling is impressive. This is my first book by him, and I look forward to reading more.

Never in a million years would I have thought this book, a fairytale retelling with a dark twist, would be this good. It’s beyond good, stellar, or brilliant. Words don’t seem strong enough to express how much I loved this book. Alyce – Looking Through the Lycan Glass is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. The world-building is flawless. The characters are original and relatable. The narration is deeply emotional. The action scenes are detailed. From the time I picked it up until I reached the end, I couldn’t get enough.
Let’s start with the characters. Alyce lost her mother at sixteen and has been living with her aunt, uncle, and twin cousins. It’s a horrid existence for Alyce. All that changes when she ‘falls’ down a rabbit hole along with her twin cousins and two teen boys. Reality for Alyce is flipped on its head and her ability to stay strong and not freak out makes her a true heroine. The other characters are well-written and will ring true of a classic fairytale. Lynda Bailey creates unique characters easy to connect to, even the whiny ones.
The world-building is incredible. This author builds a world so rich in detail, I wanted to hop right in. The layers of world-building make for immersive reading.
This is my first book by this author so naturally I have to talk about the writing. The plot progression is even with the right amount of conflict, action, and tension. The dialogue is engaging while the narration is emotive. Lynda Bailey is a talented writer who pulls the reader in and doesn’t let go until the very end. Her ability for storytelling is immense and I look forward to reading more from her.
I've read other stories from Ms. Winward and thoroughly enjoyed them, and was looking forward to reading this one. It's a loose retelling of the fairyI've read other stories from Ms. Winward and thoroughly enjoyed them, and was looking forward to reading this one. It's a loose retelling of the fairytale 'Cinderella,' although without the evil stepmother or stepsisters. Miss Ivette Danvers finds herself in charge of her four younger sisters when her father takes off with the loan money, leaving them struggling to get through each day. Ivette does the best she can, but repayment of the loans is coming due, and soon they'll be evicted from their small farm. I liked Ivette's conviction to take care of their little family, but she can only do so much, and she tries hard not to let despair overwhelm her. It's a lot of responsibility on her young shoulders, but her sweet and generous spirit endears her to everyone she knows.
Lord Barnaby Mavis is on a quest to find the Danvers' farm. It isn't clear if he's the villain, going to collect the money owed on the loan or forgive it. When he's caught in a ferocious storm and thrown from his horse, he crashes through a fence and down a cliff, coming to rest in the field of the Danvers' farm. I wished the author had explained a bit more of Barnaby's mission through his internal dialogue before his fall and subsequent amnesia. It would have given me a different perspective of his character. The author does a great job of describing the effects of panic attacks that made Barnaby more relatable.
I also would have liked a bit more world-building in the story because while it was clear Barnaby was from another kingdom, it was never explained where Ivette and her family lived. Also, there was one subplot of the story that made no sense to me, that of Barnaby's friend stealing sheep from the Danvers' farm. What did that have to do with the story? It only added more despair for Ivette to lose any of her wool-producing sheep.
Once Ms. Winward returned to the basics of the fairytale plot of 'Cinderella,' I really loved the part that Barnaby's mother played in the story organizing the ball for all the fair maidens, both noble and commoner. Once again, Ivette shows her indomitable spirit, trying to make her dreams come true with the man she loves. The only real obstacle she faces is figuring out exactly where to look for Barnaby, but it seems Barnaby's mother had a way to resolve that issue as well.
The story is a quick read (less than 200 pages), although, with a bit more expansion of the story, I think it could have been a much more enjoyable read. I enjoy Ms. Winwood's writing style and look forward to reading more of her books.

In an epic battle for power, Miranda answers the call but will she have the strength to succeed? As an avid fantasy reader, I was hooked from the beginning. The world-building, descriptive narration, character development work together to make The Stolen Tower an incredible audiobook. If fantasy is your weakness, you need to listen to this audiobook.

Enter the story of Alice and prepare to be caught up in this incredible story. Alice has magical ability while still being just a human teenage girl. My personal fave is Fiorell but I am sure many will love Kellyn, too. The character of Alice is so approachable. It is easy for a young teen to put themselves in her place as she faces the seemingly unbelievable. The overarching theme - that man may yet learn to not destroy the planet - is almost poetically sad and true.

Seraphina Nova, the Ember Fae Queen, has one thing on her mind, and she'll do anything to accomplish her goal, including killing. Her younger sister PSeraphina Nova, the Ember Fae Queen, has one thing on her mind, and she'll do anything to accomplish her goal, including killing. Her younger sister Pri has been captured by the rival Forest Fae clan when she sought the healing waters of the Glades, and Seraphine will do anything to rescue her, even if she has to burn the forest down. Unfortunately, the Forest Fae are a formidable enemy with the skill to protect their surrounding forest and clan, and it's hard to penetrate even for Seraphina. She's out of options until an opportunity allows her to capture the Forest Fae heir. She'll exchange him for her sister. Simple, right?
I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, so I was a little lost at the beginning. However, the world-building in the story is fantastic, as the author's imagination seemingly has no bounds to keep the reader engaged. I really enjoyed the different aspects of magic each of the clans wielded.
When Seraphina captures Bastian, the first thing she does is stab him. Yikes! That certainly got my attention and demonstrated to Bastian's fellow guardsman, Ashryn, that she was serious in her threats to kill him. "Bring my sister to the cliffs, or he dies," was the last thing Ashryn heard as darkness overtook her from a sleeping dart. Ashryn and Bastian have a long and complicated history--certainly best friends now, but a hint of romance in the past. Ashryn is the only one in Attleglade who befriends Bastian, and she'll do anything to save him. Seraphina is counting on that.
The pages fly by as one obstacle after another is thrown into the path of Seraphina and Bastian. Along the way, they became more than enemies. Their blossoming feelings seemed a bit rushed, although they're willing to throw caution to the wind to be together. Of course, their growing romance is doomed, as each respective clan would never accept a relationship between an Ember Fae and a Forest Fae.
The climax was phenomenal, and I should have seen it coming, but I was so engrossed in the story that it caught me by surprise. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen. There was only one small aspect involving Bastian's father's health that was left unresolved when there seemed to be a solution nearby that I found lacking in this otherwise very enjoyable fantasy romance.

Wow, I am astounded by this book. Blending fantasy and fairytale with an epic world-building experience, Mightier Than Magic will make you a believer. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. Fantasy readers rejoice, your new binge-read adventure awaits you.
Let’s start with the characters. Katie is a wonderful heroine to read. She’s the nonmagical sister in a household of magic. An outcast who not even her mother, the queen, sees fit to notice. My heart went out to her time and again. Alaric is a prince from a warring kingdom come to sign a treaty for peace. The queen seals the deal offering any of her daughters for him to marry. When he picks Katie, the queen is furious. But you see, these two are in love and nothing can stop them. A classic fairytale retold in glorious fashion. The characters are so well written, they leap from the pages and into your heart.
The world-building is written with a professional’s hand. It’s complex, immersive, and a true epic experience. You’ll think you’re in a theatre while reading.
I am a die-hard fantasy reader. Mightier Than Magic ranks as one of the top reads of the year. Trust me, you’ll want to read this book. Highly recommend!
