The Stronghold is the story of Bowie, a young and skilled sharpshooter in the Fort Thunder militia. He’s got everything he could possibly want and his life is laid out in front of him. All that changes when Alexis crashes her plane on the island. Ignoring orders to stay away, Bowie pulls her from the wreckage and brings her back to the Fort. He’s intrigued by her as she’s nothing like he’s ever seen before. Her arrival creates all sorts of chaos to those living on the island and some even want her executed. Bowie is suddenly thrust in the middle and must choose between the truth and following orders. Is Bowie willing to risk his very life to learn the truth or will he keep quiet to protect life on the island and its fearful inhabitants?
Wow! Just wow! What a gripping dystopian thriller! I was hooked from the first page and loved all the twists and turns. While it reminded me of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village, the story is very much a reflection of the world we’re living in. Fear against those different from ourselves makes monsters of us all and it’s this concept that’s throughout The Stronghold. Bowie is an amazing character and his growth is honest yet necessary. Fast-paced plot is peppered with intriguing characters and conflicts. Before I knew it, it was over. Highly recommend!

Relics of Life is a haunting and thought-provoking dystopian novel by Dorothea Anna that immerses readers in a world on the brink of extinction. Set dRelics of Life is a haunting and thought-provoking dystopian novel by Dorothea Anna that immerses readers in a world on the brink of extinction. Set during a cataclysmic third world war, it follows two Russian monks, Sergius and Herman, on a desperate mission to find holy relics believed to hold the key to saving humanity. Their journey leads them to Fairview, Virginia, where they meet Stephanie, a quiet but devout woman whose family and town are crumbling under the weight of crime and oppression.
The characters in Relics of Life are deeply compelling. Stephanie, the introspective protagonist, is relatable and resilient. However, my favorite character was her feisty mother, who brings grit and humor to the narrative. The authentic family dynamics add a personal layer to the story’s larger stakes, making their struggle all the more engaging. And as a dog lover, I can’t forget to mention Hobo, Stephanie’s adorable dog, who adds warmth and light in a world overshadowed by fear.
What makes this book especially gripping is its unsettling vision of the future, which feels alarmingly close to our own reality. The depiction of a police state, omnipresent surveillance, and constant drone activity is both terrifying and believable. There were moments when I found myself glancing out of my own window, unnerved by how plausible this future seemed. It serves as a chilling reminder of where we could be headed.
Faith plays a significant role in the story, offering both the characters and readers a sense of hope amidst the darkness. Religion is seamlessly woven into the narrative, becoming an integral part of the characters’ journey. This element adds depth to the story, making it particularly meaningful for readers who appreciate spiritual themes in their fiction.
Ultimately, Relics of Life balances the fear of an impending dystopia with the comforting reminder of humanity’s capacity for hope and redemption. It’s a book that lingers long after the last page, challenging you to reflect on the power of belief in times of crisis.

Simone Athilla is a strong female personality with An imaginative and intriguing YA dystopian with fantasy elements perfect for fans of Hunger Games.
Simone Athilla is a strong female personality with a fiery temper and the braveness of a mother lion in battle. Having never known her birth parents, she cherishes President Felix and his son Trémon who took her in and treated her like family. Her character is the perfect counterpart for the villain, Damian who seeks to overthrow them all but has secrets of his own that change the dynamic of the story.
The world building in the futuristic society is detailed, consistent, and paints a clear picture of the main locales the story takes place in. Also, the scientific and technological components add an interesting element to the storyline.
The plotting and pacing unravels at an even keel with interesting twists and turns, leading to an ending that bridges this story into the upcoming second book in the series.
Fans of young adult fantasy and dystopian will definitely enjoy this intriguing tale.

No matter what happens, one thing is for sure. Flynn is bringing the war to The Source, not the other way around.
Binder is an epic dystopian with political machinations, hot romance, old lovers, hidden enemies, and at the heart of it all is one couple who will fight or die trying. The world-building is immense and rivals the Game of Thrones saga. The descriptive narration is so immersive, you’ll feel every emotion and experience everything that happens. The hot romance scenes are borderline BDSM, but it works considering the characters. The characters are the #1 reason to read Binder, trust me.
Let’s start with the characters. Kara is our heroine and she’s wonderfully written. Her conflicts and emotions rule her heart. She acts out and honestly, I enjoyed her speaking her mind to everyone. She has no filter, and I loved it. Sure, she’s learning all the ins and outs of society and proper etiquette. She’s basically royalty and has no idea what is expected of her. When she falters, Flynn is there to support her. Kara is such an engrossing heroine and one I rooted for while reading. I connected with her on so many levels.
Then there’s Flynn. He’s returned home and is trying to readjust to all the political jockeying for control. There are warring factions and who will stand beside him when all the fur flies are constantly on his mind. He’s also doing what he can to protect the woman he loves, Kara, while executing his grandfather’s plan. He’s a man without a net but he’s one determined hero. I am astonished by how complex his character is written. AK Nevermore has written one of the finest heroes ever written. I connected with him as well.
If you’re a lover of hot dystopian romance with heavy doses of violence, political factions, and sizzling romance, you need to read Binder. Yes, this is book two in the Price of Talent series, and it can be read as a standalone. But I highly recommend you read Breaker before reading Binder. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Torn between The Source and the Northern Territories, he must make a choice. His choice will have ramifications far reaching, only he has no idea it will lead him in the crosshairs. Destroyer is the story of Flynn Scott prior to Breaker (book one in the series). I found this book compelling and very intriguing. Flynn is not the same man as the one we first meet in Breaker. A lot of the answers I had about Flynn’s background are answered in this prequel.
The world-building is astounding with AK Nevermore detailing a world unlike ours. The construct of Talents, The Source, and Northern Territories are described down to the smallest detail. This dystopian world is rigid in its rules, very black and white thinking, yet there are those who rebel. I always enjoy reading from this author because her worlds are well-written and allows me to escape from my own life.
The characters are well-written, especially Flynn. This is the Flynn I was expecting in Breaker, only what happens to him nearly breaks him. It isn’t until Kara comes along to change his life forever that Flynn discovers what fate has in store for him. A hero turned anti-hero you will want to cheer for as you read.
If you love military science fiction in a dystopian world, pick up this free prequel today. I can’t wait until book two to see what happens next. Highly recommend!

Wow, this prequeTime is running out…but can Kara escape a fate worse than death? Her unique talent will be wasted if all she’s good for is a breeder. Wow, this prequel reads like a movie. Get ready, for this book will sink its claws into you. You won’t be able to escape. The world-building lays the groundwork for the whole series. The descriptive narration is immersive and deep. The action is well-plotted. It’s the characters, specifically Kara, that makes this short prequel unputdownable.
Let’s start with the characters. Kara is the main character in this prequel, and she’s brilliantly written. The reader gets to see everything she sees and experiences through her eyes. She’s a strong heroine who goes through so much. I connected with her on so many levels. The tension within boils over and she needs to make a decision. I won’t give away what happens next, but it’s a shocker.
Then there’s the world-building. AK Nevermore creates a world unlike anything I’ve read in the dystopian genre. The tremendous detail allows the reader to entirely plunge themselves into the story. AK Nevermore takes our modern world and plunges it into a dystopian masterpiece.
If you’re a fan of dystopian, do yourself a favor and pick up this free prequel. You’ll be hooked like me and will have to read the whole Price of Talent series.

Breaker is a dark dystopian romance that ripped out my heart then made it soar before tearing it shreds. My anticipation for this book was a feverish pitch, especially after reading the prequel Breeder. I dove in and read Breaker in two days. The narration grabs the reader from the very first page. The pent-up tension continues to build throughout the story. The stakes are high, and these characters burrowed their way into my soul. The setting, world-building, and action propel the plot. Breaker is one book that is unforgettable.
Let’s start with the world-building. AK Nevermore creates a world unlike anything I’ve read in the dystopian genre. The incredible detail allows the reader to completely immerse themselves in the story. Some readers might be overwhelmed at first but once you meet and interact with the characters, it’ll be worth it. AK Nevermore takes our modern world and plunges it into a dystopian masterpiece. Trust me, you won’t want to leave.
The characters are complex, with dark personalities and personal trauma. Kara is a heroine on the run with dark secrets. She doesn’t know who to trust. But don’t worry, she can take on any adversary and does with impressive skills. Flynn is a tormented hero whose past he tries to outrun. Together, they forge a new life and discover they are mates. Both Kara and Flynn tore my heart out with what they’ve experienced and how their future will play out. My heart aches for this couple still as they’ve only just begun, and war is at their doorstep.
Breaker is not for the faint of heart. There’s steamy romance with hot scenes. The dialogue is peppered with cursing and strong language. The action, emotional tension, and high stakes make this clearly an 18+ read. This series has only just begun, and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

In Masseurs debut novella, we’re introduced to a relatable and realistic main character Michael Stevenson who is the epitome of your average dad with a love of kraft beer and his family—wife Teresa and daughter Lucy. When Michael wakes up to discover his family is gone along with most of humanity, his heartbreaking yet uplifting journey begins. His quest to survive and determination to find his wife and daughter rest at the heart of the story.
Complimenting Michael’s character is a memorable and distinctive cast of secondary characters also thrown into the madness of this new world.
The setting also plays an integral role—a character onto itself. Imaginative and complex world-building intertwine with Michael’s story, revealed bit by bit in a way that is understandable for the reader while immersing them in this new and terrifying reality. All and all an exciting start to an entertaining series.

In Beartooth, Ashley McPhee lives a quiet life with her mother, Sara, her best friend Caleb, and a small group of families in a self-sustaining small community. With water levels rising and shifting tectonic plates, the United States is shrinking, and the residents of Beartooth fear the chaos and violence in nearby settlements will find them.
Especially, after they learn the government plans to use an untested, geoengineering process to cool the planet, threatening their fragile ecosystem and potentially destroying their crops. To complicate matters even further for Ashley, her mother’s health is failing, forcing her to consider marriage and assume full responsibility of their apiary.
The world-building is detailed, depicting not only the shifting geography, but also the changes in wildlife behavior. From the beginning of the story, a sense of danger looms over the characters that carries through to the end, leading into the next book of the series coming this summer.
Ashley is a wonderful main character with a quiet strength pushing her forward despite all the obstacles in her path. Her counterpart, Caleb also plays a vital role in the story with bravery and leadership. With the older members of the community aging, Ashley and Caleb, along with a secondary cast of characters around their age, must carry the future of their community on their backs and forge ahead.
I highly recommend this slightly terrifying dystopian tale for fans of Hunger Games and the Divergent Series.

The Wall is an action-filled YA dystopian novel I thoroughly enjoyed. The premise is intriguing. The world-building is impeccable. The characters are diverse and unforgettable. While some may say this is futuristic, it's not too far away.
Let's start with the world-building. To say Brian Penn is an expert when it comes to world-building is an understatement. The world he's created is filled with complexities and nuances. This world is rooted in reality so it feels familiar yet is so far gone, it's fantastical. The layers of construct only illuminate the author's writing ability. Once I dove in, I didn't want to leave.
The characters are well written. I connected with Asher and his quest to find a way through the wall. He goes through so many obstacles yet retains his strength, his fortitude. His very existence is cause for alarm, but his actions will justify the means. The rest of the characters are truly unforgettable. Each character has their own voice, their own personality.
If you're looking for a fresh, original YA dystopian with a splash of romance, take my advice and read The Wall.

I can't be the only person who is sick of reading about the world right now. If it's not inflation, it's suffering and war. If you are ready to just step out of the harshness of the world and disappear into something else, read this book. This book is like a breath of fresh air. You can just lose yourself in this story. I totally did and you will too.
Incredibly original. The world-building is something you have to see for yourself. Totally bizarre but somehow calming to read about. The writing is also almost unlike anything else out there. My boss said sounds a bit like Bradbury. I can say that then. If you are a fan of classic Bradbury you will like this. If there is a slight issue, then it's that the appeal for this might be limited. It takes a certain mind set to get the writing. Not everyone may want to do that.
A pretty brilliant work, nonetheless. If you are sick and tired of today's sad world, read this book and set your mind adrift!

The author takes Whoa, this science fiction book has me fearing the future. If everything written here really happens, I don’t know if we’ll survive. The author takes us into the not-too-distant future where scores of people are suffering from brain injuries. What happens next is mind-blowing. Talk about a book I couldn’t stop reading.
The world-building truly takes this book to an epic level. It blends classic scifi and dystopian which I loved. The author creates a world that is eerily familiar yet unknown. Every aspect of the setting is brilliant.
The characters are well-written and relatable. I found myself engrossed in their lives and what they’re going through. The narration really brings home the idea of human evolution and the consequences it brings. I connected with the characters. So well done.
The author writes with purpose and weaves a story worth contemplating. He takes modern news headlines and flips it on its head. I read late into the night and whenever I got a chance. Addictive? Yes. Creepy? Yes. A treatise on humanity today? Definitely!
If you’re looking for an original story, pick up Quantum Crystal. It’ll make you think twice about where big pharma is taking humanity.

Why didn't a streaming service come up with a physically challenged anti-heroine? Seems like this has been a long time coming. The fact that our heroine is also follically-challenged (challenged only by how her hair won’t behave) will make her much more relatable to many readers.
The world-building is strong. The character development is done at a terrific pace. The romance in this book is a pretty slow burn. The burn is almost what you get from very cold ice. The action scenes are also reminiscent of an old classic scifi movie. At times, the reader is challenged to figure out if the events are real or simulated.
There is no lack of people who are evil, dark or simply mean. It would do the balance of yin/yang good that by the end of the series there could be systemic intensive payback/justice to this entire crew of 'people'. Good, it appears, is being the best in your biz and being always late for work. Personally, I always found the BEST was to be the best in your biz and always on time or early.
Fans who hunger for a certain kind of games will really love this book and probably the entire series. Some of the drone action is truly fast and sometimes furious. If that is your ball of fun, then this book should be for you. A great start to what should be a very popular series.

Everything has a purpose, an evenness, and for Millie, all things, people, and objects need to be even. Even something as simple as her pigtails need to be the essence of symmetry. She’s not as odd as you might think because she lives in a world governed by the Council of Benevolence. One day Millie and her best friend Silas discover a very uneven baby on her front porch. Millie has never seen such an ugly baby before. She’s conflicted about what she should do. The only logical thing Millie comes up with is to bring the baby to the Council. They’ll know what to do. But the result causes more turmoil for Millie. What to do? Is there another way to live than what she’s been doing all along?
MilliM is an original middle-grade dystopian story, unlike anything I’ve read before. Most of the dystopian books published is either young adult or adult. Lisa Pelissier presents an authentic dystopian for kids and it’s a fantastic story from start to finish. Children will connect with Millie and identify with her predicament. I certainly connected with Millie and enjoyed her view on life. The descriptive narration draws the reader into the story. The plot moves at a kid-friendly pace, yet adults will follow along with ease. The length of the story is pretty long for a kids book but its pacing keeps the reader invested. There are certain themes to this story many kids and adults will relate to. MilliM is a poignant look at society through the lens of a ten-year-old child. Highly recommend!

Ebi is my fave character. He runs the gamut of emotions as he deals with everything under the sun. This is an incredibly detailed account of a world that surpasses simple understanding. The world-building done here is nonpareil. The intricate detail of the various locations is eye-catching.
While this is a hard book to compare to others, there are some things that appeal in a similar fashion. Fans of the Dune film with Sting from 1984 will enjoy the conceptual nature of this work. This book may appeal to fans of the C.S. Lewis work about Narnia. Truly a thought-provoking book that will leave a reader wondering what it means personally to them.

The power has shifted and Volney discovers he has a voice and can lead if only he can control his vices. While he won’t wear a crown, his part could be far more significant. As he navigates through this new role, he’s tested time and again. Will he free the gnomes from servitude or will Volney succumb to his mother’s wishes?
The Doll's Eyes of Gnome is a thought-provoking fantasy I enjoyed reading. Volney is an intriguing character and his journey had me whipping through the pages. Ashley Parker Owens, once again, has written an intricate world with a dystopian vibe to it. The descriptive narration plus the world-building makes The Doll's Eyes of Gnome a gripping read. There’s quite a bit of strife and conflict in this book but the ending makes it all worthwhile. If you’re a fantasy reader, you’ll love The Doll's Eyes of Gnome. If you’re a fan of all things epic fantasy, you’ll want to read The Doll's Eyes of Gnome. I look forward to reading more Gnome Stories from this author. Highly recommend!

When I was a youth, I used to hike at Bon Echo in the summer. Always remained a special place to me and suddenly, BAM here's a book titled Bon Echo...
The world-building here is incredible. The author has taken the necessary steps to set the groundwork for a skyscraper of a book series. As you read this book you will get to know Maven and her oft annoying bro. You will get to know their groups of close friends. You will have a hoot meeting Hoot, too.
The creative thought that went into the storyline is impressive. Centered on the need to do something to stop the Climate Crisis, this book nails that issue. Such a well-defined and clearly strident approach, it is lovely to read. I would surmise even those not accepting the fact of Global Warming will enjoy this book.
If you are a reader who is concerned about the future of the planet then read this book. Fans of science-based fiction will love this book. I personally can't wait for book two. Once you read the first book you will be hooked.

Whiplash is a riveting fantasy adventure I couldn’t stop reading. It’s part dystopian, part fantasy, part thriller, all woven together to create an unputdownable read. I connected with Jack right away and his character drives the plot. With intricate world-building and descriptive narration, Whiplash is a fantasy reader’s dream. The plot moves at a perfect pace with plenty of strife and turmoil for the characters to overcome. The premise, while not original, captivated my every thought while reading. I stayed up late a couple of times just to see what would happen next. This is my first Morgan Quaid book, and his writing style reminds me of some of the top fantasy writers. Brilliantly written, Whiplash needs to be read by the masses. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend!
