As I consumed this book as an audiobook, the reader was a bit too slow at times for me; I could have sped it up had I been actually reading to hurry through the more mundane parts. Now if only I could find a copy of the movie. This writing by Bradbury does remind me of some of Stephen King's more tame writings. It wasn't until the last three chapters that the reader finally gets a better idea of what "the Game" is about. I like to read scary (not too scary!) or spooky books in October. This book was neither scary nor spooky to me. It was just weird. Not sure I would recommend it to anyone I know, although I sort of liked it....more

Although the beginning chapters wove their magic slowly, the story sped up in the middle. It seemed that the author used birds of various kinds as a method of foreboding throughout the story. Reading by candlelight during a storm added to the suspense and fright. ...more
