You have everything in this story, suspense, death, spooky religions, and vigilantes. The story opens with bones, of course. The bones being in the sub-basement of a very old house, means Tempe is called in. The bones that look like they were involved in the occult worship means that they don’t know what they are searching for. A couple of headless corpses with devil worship symbols carved in them confuse them more. When one of the investigating cops is murdered in the line of duty, the pressure to solve the cases is tremendous. An old flame and one on the back burner, make this an intriguing yet entertaining story. I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes the detail and suspense of a Reich’s book. ...more

The twists and turns the story took were very interesting. Now the “bedroom” scenes were a little over the top and I am glad there were only two of them in the entire story. Some authors don’t understand “fading to black” or “less is more” as this book shows. This book must have been earlier in her career; some of the other Brenda Joyce books are not so vocal on certain aspects of those scenes. Moving on, the story itself was very good and had me turning the pages and wondering who killed Kate and what was Hal’s obsession with her. It was a page turner that I recommend to those that like the more suspenseful stories as long you can get through the bedroom scenes. I tend to skip those parts, so focused on the rest of the story. A decent book overall. ...more
