This had the twists and turns that you expect, but it also had idiocy. Angus ends up coming to America with Edilean and they fall in love. Angus doesn’t think the love Edilean has will survive the life he has to lead so he leaves her. Edilean on the other had has my sympathies and I would have done similar measures in my frustration of the man. They eventually get everything together, but it was annoying at the lengths Angus took to “help” Edilean because he knew better than her. It was an interesting story, but the main leads annoyed me. ...more

This book is a romanceThis book seems to be early in the writing career of Jude Deveraux. Her later books are more involved and historical in nature. This book is a romance that introduces us to New Mexico in the early days of settlement. Between the kidnappings, frustration, and misunderstandings of the major force in this book, a rich story develops. This book might be early in her career, but show Deveraux to be a fabulous storyteller. It was predictable, and the ending seemed to be a little forced and convenient, but a very interesting read. It is a quick read, but enjoyable at the same time....more

There are drawbacks because sometimes you read authors that quite frankly aren’t the best storytellers. This book had five different stories in it. The first by Jude Deveraux was interesting because it was connected to her book Legend. I would have liked to have a longer story, and if I had known this story existed I would have read this book sooner. As the fact of most anthologies there were some really good stories and some that weren’t as good. All of them were entertaining, but there was an author or two I would not try to find their books. The Jude Deveraux story was good, but confusing if you haven’t read the book Legend. It was tied up too tidily and more detail would have been nice. Overall a good quick read....more

It is one of the books that have 5 short stories by different authors and most have a theme of some sort. This one is the highlands of Scotland. The first story was Jude Deveraux’s and was well done. I eagerly started on the other stories in the book, because I never had read the authors and the blurbs made them promising. They were all great short stories! In these combination books there are maybe one really good one, two-three decent, and at least one that is hard to read because it is so bad. All of the stories in this one were great and well written! I may have to try some of the other authors to see if they continue this path. I wondered how a 19th century Texas cowboy worked into the Highlands, but she pulled it off. The good thing is that yes there is romance, but has the fade to black scenes which is preferable. This is a great read and I highly recommend it to any that might like to read some Highland romance....more
