Wow, that was an amazing end to SPECTR 2! I spent a whole lot of series 2 feeling hella unsettled. I didn't like the secrets nor the deceptions and wanting Barillo to be eaten by Gray was a persistent desire, throughout the series. There was so much uncertainty between Caleb, Gray, and John that I just feel spent.
Shaker of Earth was an exciting read. My heart was shattered by the ending of Breaker of Chains but I was at the edge of my seat watching the events unfold; hoping and trusting that everything would be ok. I can tell you yes, everything works out between Caleb, Grey, and John, but Charleston will never be the same again. I think that holds true for our guys, too. And me, for that matter...

I can say, with every bit of certainty, that when an event guts me even though I know it's coming that's some amazing writing. And, well, going in this time, not only did I know it was coming, but I remember bawling my eyes out the first time around, anyway. This time? Still fucking gutted me. It's a powerful thing, leaving the ending more than a little bittersweet. I'm going on to Evan's book, now. He deserves some happy. I hope he finds it.
-----Original Review Aug 2020----- This series caught me off guard with just how much I ended up loving it. Graveyard Shift especially hit me right in the feels. And even knowing about that one thing, going in, because I read the spoilers, I was still gutted when it happened. Just gutted. Well done, even though I'm a bit teary, right now.

Discord between Thaddeus and Sara, between Sara and Nohea, between Nohea and Thaddeus... It was a bit much. I felt especially that Thaddeus and Sara were long overdue for a solid conversation about their future, but each of them kept assuming what the other felt and thought rather than asking or talking things out. Plus, Sara is keeping secrets, even if he isn't certain what the secrets really are or what they mean. Also, I didn't like the pushy, obnoxious twins.
The main story arc does get some progression, and we do learn a couple things, but it definitely doesn't feel finished, or anywhere near resolved, really. At the end of tNocturne it said that the next book was supposed to be out in 2018, but it doesn't look like it's out, so I'm not holding out hope we'll get more.

I rarely enjoy books that are so drenched in religion, especially when one of the MCs is drowning in guilt because of his "sinful" (aka gay) nature, because of said religion. I honestly feel awful for those for whom internalized homophobia is a reality. It breaks my heart.
Thaddeus Dupont has a lot stacked against him. Not only is he a vampire, but he's also gay, and a devout Catholic. His self-loathing was palpable and I blame the monks and the church. They constantly leveled veiled threats at him to keep him in line. Thaddeus might not have been in a physical cage, but he was caged, nonetheless. They thought nothing about using Thaddeus as a weapon, but to allow him even the slightest bit of happiness was beyond their compassion. I admire Thaddeus's strength of will - I would have walked into the sun decades ago.
Sara is a college student from Seattle, whose family needs money following his father's death. This job did seem a little too good to be true, but desperate times and all that, so Sara took the leap and drove all the way to Louisiana and into the unknown. I loved how Sara took everything with his new boss in stride. I loved that he was strong and stood his ground. I loved his sass and his insistence that he was part of the team. I think he's exactly who Thaddeus needed.
Also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Nohea - she was bad ass and no nonsense. I loved her.
I liked the story, in spite of the heavy silver chains of religion, but I've got to say, I didn't much enjoy Thaddeus' constant guilt and I definitely didn't like the church. I figured going in that it would be this way, though, so I've only myself to blame, there, I suppose. I'll continue the series, though, in hopes that Sara rubs off on Thaddeus in more than just the physical ways, because Thaddeus deserves some happiness, regardless of what some asshole monks think.

I really meant to write a more coherent review than "Ahh chiffhanger!! Gimme Moar Now!!", but it just isn't coming to me.
I will say that I love this series and I really enjoyed Free Falling Crimson. Sam and Travis are finally a couple and they really are delicious together. And we get to visit our two other favorite werewolves, too.
Nothing is resolved at the end of this book, though. Nothing. Never fear, though, Pulp Friction 2015 is taking place in this universe, so I have hopes that we will get there by the end of the year. I'm not terribly patient, though...it's a flaw, I know.
So, I look forward to more :)

I was on the fence about reading The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae because I DNF'd the one other book I tried by this author because the characters were just beyond annoying. I should have just kept walking.
If we had not been told Remi's age in the first few pages (43 year old wolf shifter), I would have pegged him at about 19-20 from the way he talks and acts. I assume his best friends are around his same age, but they all act like they're college age.
Plus, the writing is very superficial and everyone is so perfect. I am bored. Time to move on.
