Maju mundur terus mau baca buku ini, niat semakin kuat setelah tau akan difilmkan oleh the one ans only Tim Burton.
A very Burtonish story indeed.

When you get smarter you don’t stop pulling the wings off flies, you just think of better reasons for doing it.”
Carrie, Carrie, Carrie… Padahal pada awalnya King tidak begitu pede dengan karyanya ini seperti yang saya baca di Wikipedia : King recalls, “Carrie was written after Rosemary Baby’s, but before The Exorcist, which really opened up the field. I didn’t expect much of Carrie. I thought, ‘Who’d want to read a book about a poor little girl with menstrual problems?’ I couldn’t believe I was writing it.”. In a talk at the University of Maine, King said of Carrie, “I’m not saying that Carrie is shit, and I’m not repudiating it. She made me a star, but it was a young book by a young writer. In retrospect, it reminds me of a cookie baked by a first grader — tasty enough, but kind of lumpy and burned on the bottom.” The book went on to sell four million copies.
“The over-all impression is one of a town that is waiting to die. It is not enough, these days, to say that Chamberlain will never be the same. It may be closer to the truth to say that Chamberlain will simply never again be.”
The idea for the novel came to King in a daydream. He had remembered an article about telekinesis in LIFE magazine, which said that if the power existed, it was strongest in adolescent girls. King’s background as a high school janitor also flashed to mind, specifically the day when he had to clean rust stains in the girls’ showers. He had never been in a girls’ bathroom before, and seeing tampon dispensers on the wall was like visiting a distant planet.
The two memories collided. King knew it could make a decent short story for Cavalier. Playboy was a possibility, too. Hef’s magazine paid better, and the Buick needed a new transmission.
King modeled Carrie White after two of the loneliest girls he remembered from high school. One was a timid epileptic with a voice that always gurgled with phlegm. Her fundamentalist mother kept a life-size crucifix in the living room, and it was clear to King that the thought of it followed her down the halls. The second girl was a loner. She wore the same outfit every day, which drew cruel taunts.
Satu yang mengganggu saya entah kenapa terjemahan kali ini terkesan agak kaku, tapi covernya menutupi kekecewaan saya :)
Adegan di kamar mandi, checked.
Freak momma, checked.
Bitchy ladies, checked.
Telekinetik superpower, checked.
Prom ‘bloody’ night, checked.
Tunggu apa lagi, yuk dibaca dan rasakan sensasinya :p...more

Oh well, kalimat pertama yang menarik, yaaa selain Neil Gaimannya sendiri sih. Bagaimana kalau bahasanya susah? But there’s always the first time for everything dan perjumpaan pertama saya dengan novel Neil Gaiman berbuah manis, 5 bintang untuk kisah dark fantasy yang bertema unik sekaligus seram plus ajaib.
- Freedom of the graveyard.
Bod said, “The person who hurt my family. The one who wants to kill me. You are certain that he’s still out there?”
“Yes. He’s still out there.”
“Then, said Bod, and said that the unsayable, “I want to go to school.”
Silas was imperturbable, but now his mouth open and his brow furrowed, and he said only,
“What?”
“I’ve learned a lot in the graveyard. I can Fade and I can Haunt. I can open a ghoul-gate and I know the constellations. But there’sa world out there, with the sea in it, and the islands, and shipwrecks and pigs. And the teachers here have taught me lots of things, but i need more. If I’m going to survive there, one day.”
“Out of the question. Here we can keep you safe, out there? Outside, anything could happen.”
“Yes, “ agreed Bod. “That’s the potential thing you were talking about. Someone killed my mother and my father and my sister.”
“Yes. Someone did.”
“A man?”
“A man.”
“Which means you’re asking the wrong question.”
Silas raised an eyebrow. “How so?”
“Well, if I go outside in the world, the question isn’t who will keep me safe from him?”
“No?”
“No. It’s who will keep him safe from me?”
:’)
- Teman-teman Bod.
- The Man Jack
Karakter misterius pembunuh keluarga Bod. Siapakah ia sebenarnya?
- The ending.
Penuh dengan kalimat quotable.
“Do you know what you’re going to do now?”
“See the world, get into trouble. Get out of trouble again. Visit jungles and volcanoes and deserts and islands. And people. I want to meet an awful lot of people.”
Saya juga menyukai kalimat ini :
Fear is contagious. You can catch it. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to say that they’re scared for the fear to become real.
Dan yang terakhir :
Face your life, It’s pain, It’s pleasure, Leave no path untaken.
Have a great journey, Bod!
I’m sure you’ll have a great journey ahead. :’)
Terima kasih pinjaman bukunya ya Mbak Iyut :D...more

*sambil bolak balik Tabir Nalar*
Aldo : Iya, gara-gara menang cerita favorit jadinya diterbitkan. Ini bukunya buat kamu aja.
Me : Aaaak, terima kasihh, tapi ini covernya rada-rada ya :D
Aldo : Err, iya banyak yang bilang sih :|
Beberapa hari kemudian saya mulai membaca Tabir Nalar, walau dengan sedikit perasaan was was. Kenapa was was?
1. Saya bosan dengan fantasi.
2. Sedikit trauma dengan fantasi lokal Indonesia.
Good job, Rynaldo. Keep on writing yak, ditunggu novel keduanya. I want to know more about Cervale!
Tagline yang sesuai dengan isi buku YA fenomenal, setahun terakhir Delirium bergema di mana-mana, blogIf love were a disease, would you take the cure?
Ah cinta mah memang penjerat kelas kakap.
Jadi begini, review singkat saya soal Delirium :
Ketemu pada pandangan pertama. Suka. Malu-malu dan takut. Eh keterusan. Jreng-jreng. Masalah. Saat akan bersama kembali. Tet tooot. Belum waktunya ya, tunggu kelanjutan di buku 2.
“Hearts are fragile things. That’s why you have to be so careful.”
*haalah*
Terus muncul Alex, rebel, bebas dan romantis. Aaak, bagaimana pembaca tidak klepek-klepek? Belum lagi misteri tentang ibunya Lena. Wajar jika Delirium menjadi bacaan wajib penggemar young adult, dijamin pasti suka. Satu lagi yang memegang peranan penting suksesnya Delirium : Lauren Oliver. Gaya bahasanya yang mengalun indah dan puitis! Banyak quote yang memorable, singkat tapi berkesan.
“You can’t be happy unless you’re unhappy sometimes”
“I guess that’s just part of loving people: You have to give things up. Sometimes you even have to give them up.”
“Love: a single word, a wispy thing, a word no bigger or longer than an edge. That’s what it is: an edge; a razor. It draws up through the center of your life, cutting everything in two. Before and after. The rest of the world falls away on either side.”
Dan yang ini nih : “You can build walls all the way to the sky and I will find a way to fly above them. You can try to pin me down with a hundred thousand arms, but I will find a way to resist. And there are many of us out there, more than you think. People who refuse to stop believing. People who refuse to come to earth. People who love in a world without walls, people who love into hate, into refusal, against hope, and without fear.
I love you. Remember. They cannot take it.”
Duh duh duh.

Kira-kira begitulah garis besar buku pertama serial The Seven Kingdom ini, premisnya lumayan seru.
Max? Patch? Hex? Rick? apalah asal jangan Po, duuuh yang kebayang kalau ga si panda gendut ya si teletubbies. Uh oh my bad, sorry *pentung diri sendiri*...more
Pantesan mantranya aneh :p...more
