What an absolute mind trip this book was! Seriously, Courtney Lane deserves a standing ovation because this read is sheer brilliant with twists that will blow your mind. I'm not even gonna apologize by sounding like a broken record every time I speak about this author's work but truly, Courtney has done it again by just knowing how to mess with your head. Absolutely loved it till the very last page.

I basically finished this read in one sitting which is a testament to exactly how much I devoured every last page of this depraved, twisted read. Opaque Mirrors definitely had more of a crime thriller feel as compared to her other reads which makes it feel like part crime-mystery, part erotic thriller. We have Whitney, the heroine of the story who moves to a small town and tries to run from her past. Suddenly, dead bodies are piling up wherever Whitney seems to go and one sexy mothafucka of a cop named Mason steps into the investigation. Also there seems to be a rich man's son, Hayden who seems to know more than he's let on.

But in a small town where people talk and secrets are buried ten feet deep, you start to wonder who's telling the truth and who you might actually be able to trust. Bodies are piling, time is ticking and we may have a killer who's hiding in plain sight.
This is the kind of read you can't stop flipping the pages even if you try to put it down because you're just DYING to know what happens next. That's the beauty of a crime thriller read when it sucks you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat. And that's what I got from this amazing dark read over here. Courtney doesn't even give you a chance to put your mind at rest because just when you think you know what's going on, you're wrong.
"Tonight, be who you really are with me, Whitney. Make me experience the final orgasm - my death.

Be ready to put your sanity to the test and heed the warning that comes with the read. Courtney's books are for those who dare to venture into the deep far end of the dark side. There will be twisted, sick and depraved things that are graphically depicted in this read. Things that really should be sending me running for the hills but heck do I enjoy reading them because Courtney knows how to push you past those limits. Give me all things dark and twisted over the vanilla any time because dayum were those scenes still extremely hot.
"You will end and begin with me, and you will love every fucking thing I make you feel."
Another brilliant, dark mindf*ckery twist of a read- Courtney did not disappoint again. She just further proved she can write all things dark even if you throw her a crime mystery genre. I wouldn't even be surprised if she'd be able to pull off dark humor next time and probably still manage to send my mind into a tailspin.
Read this book, my dark lovers or in fact, just read all things Courtney Lane because trust me when I say that no one writes the dark ones as good as her.

Okay to be honest I picked this up for the whole forbidden romance thing going on based on the blurb and call me guilty on that account. I knew I was headed for disaster when the book starts off with the hero having sex on a Sunday morning service in his church. Did I also mention he was totally banging his pastor's wife on that very holy morning? It doesn't get any sinner than that!

There were just so many things going on in this book that didn't work for me and made absolute NO SENSE at all to why they happened. Actually I thought the first half was pretty okay but when bad things happened, it all just went downhill for me.
Main reason -> Sevin. First he seems very convinced that he loves Evangeline and they were willing to run away together so that he doesn't have to marry her sister, Elle. But the minute shit happens, it was almost like that proclamation of love never existed. Nope, he went on to marry Elle. Well okay, fine by me.
But what I can't believe was his attitude years after Elle died. He was PISSED at Evangeline leaving him during those years ago. LIKE HOW DARE HE!!! He acted like some damn martyr and as if he had the right to be mad at her. May I add he never even bothered about her when he was with Elle all those years?!
And then there was Nancy. Who I could have done absolute without in this story. She served no purpose at all and I don't know what Sevin was thinking when he kept her around for so long even after reuniting with Evangeline. I wouldn't be half as convinced by his love at all!! But nope, Evangeline came back and SHE was the one who had to grovel his forgiveness no less.

Sorry but this was not my cuppa at all. And thanks to Jennifer for enduring my rants while I read this one! ...more
My perception of Christian Grey is officially ruined and it seems that I've been living a lie.
I tried, I really did. But GDNF @ 5% aka Chap 3

My perception of Christian Grey is officially ruined and it seems that I've been living a lie.
I tried, I really did. But Grey's inner monologue was written terribly which butchered his character and had me eye-rolling at the absurdity of the way he talks in his head (the repetitive "baby" term nearly had me belting out a Bieber song). He sounded like a juvenile kid guy with these strange italic monologues and the inappropriate usage of exclamation marks. Just an example from the a few pages itself:
(view spoiler)[ She peeks up at me and bites down on her full bottom lip. Fuck! How did I not notice how inviting that mouth is? "S-Sorry. I'm not used to this." I can tell, baby, but right now I don't give a damn because I can't take my eyes off your mouth. "Take all the time you need, Miss Steele." I need another moment to marshal my wayward thoughts. Grey...stop this, now.(hide spoiler)]
And another:
(view spoiler)[ Yes! She is affected by me. The knowledge is immensely pleasing. Strolling over to the elevator, I press the call button while she stands fidgeting beside me. Oh, I could stop your fidgeting, baby. (hide spoiler)]
And another:
(view spoiler)[ Absentmindedly, she wipes a crumb from the corner of her lips and into her mouth and sucks on her finger. My cock twitches in response. What am I, fourteen? My body's reaction is irritating. Maybe this will stop if I fetter, fuck and flog her...and not necessarily in that order. Yeah. That's what I need. (hide spoiler)]
And it just continues in a never ending loop of alternating between 'italics' monologues and 'normal' monologues (what even???!). I'm sorry EL James but this trilogy was much better off without this book. By 2 chapters alone, it has obliterated all the supposingly controlling, confident and dominant appeal for the Christian Grey that I've come to known. Now he sounds like an annoying pompous piece of a man with the most irritating inner monologue that sounds like a clingy woman or equivalent to a 5-year old kid.
It's completely unappealing and honestly, I can't even take his POV/this read seriously at all. It feels like a really bad horrible joke of a read. I don't want to sound insensitive but frankly, the writing was so poorly done that it has been reduced to at an amateur level. So I'm calling it quits to preserve my sanity.
P/S: Flipped to the last page and found out that this book only covers the first book in the trilogy.
P/P/S: This book is almost 500+ pages long. ...more
