Heroine is interested in cooking so initially quite a bit of detail about what she is cooking, it's also covered by saying that it's in her nature as a Luna, to be nurturing. Both have been with others previously. Small ex woman drama, squashed very quickly. Once they are in same room as each other, although they don't meet, as such neither are with anyone else. Both have family issues that lead to relationships being complicated.
He rejects her in the sense that he knows who she is to him but doesn't want to meet, hence commit, he at first plays this off as wanting to play the field, he is 20 but he does look after her from afar. She is unaware what he is to her though she feels the pull. He also does not appear at first to grovel, his place as Alpha makes humility difficult but she stands her ground, not making it easy for him. He later realises the error of his ways.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. Secondary characters introduced for possible future books. HEA....more

Age gap. Heroine is a virgin. Hero says no-one else since he recognised the mating bond, this is earlier than for him than when she does. There is an ex companion around but it's not an issue.
The opening scene is the rejection, its pretty brutal. The Hero basically can't control his wolf, he's insane. The heroine has abandonment issues. They both have really traumatised experiences in their past. So the Hero rejects her as he feels its not safe.
4 years later we resume the story. This means the Hero has been celibate for a long time, if that helps anyone at all. The Hero has been trying to provide for her, food, but isn't dealing with her directly. He basically adores her but can't control the wolf.

I struggled a bit at the start, it begins in the middle of a conversation so I think it lacked setting, so I had to sort of catch up with who, where we were. I hadn't realised at first the this book isn't the same pack as book 1.
The rejection comes a bit later and that's where the story really gets good. N Before that there is a bit of high school politics. It highlights the issues within the pack. The Hero has been photographed with another girl, it's expected he will marry within a certain criteria.
The friend dynamic of the heroine were really good, sweet and at times funny. When the grovel comes it's very good, seeing the Hero in the back foot.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. Small other woman drama. Both were virgins. Heroine is 19, I think the Hero was 20. Breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series.

X X X In chapter 1 the Hero publicly rejects the heroine's claim that he is her mate. This isn't done maliciously, he just doesn't recognize her as his mate. There are very good reasons why and this is explored through the story.
I liked that due to some help the heroine recieves she is able to resist the Hero after that and he is on the back foot trying to repair the damage he caused.... So redemption big time. But also his personality doesn't change big time.
Also another unique storyline is the the Hero has had oral from several women, the pack assumes it's more but that's all the intimacy he has had with a female, he is waiting for his mate but the heroine has had at least 2 previous partners. It just makes a change from the Hero living up to his man-whore reputation. It's not great that he has been with several pack females but it's not as bad as everyone believes. The heroine was intimate with men in town so they are not part of the pack.
There are no intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine but the Hero does have another woman kiss him, sit in his lap and seem to lay claim to him, all this is done in public, in front of the heroine. This is before he realises the heroine is his mate.
There is quite a bit of inner monologue. Dual POV.
Lots of secondary characters for possible future books in series. HEA. Epilogue.
At the time I read it you can sign up for a further 5 year epilogue.

The blurb tells us that the heroine hits a wolf with her car so meets the Hero, for me, I felt the start of the book got a bit bogged down with getting to that point. We have what felt like to me unnecessary long intro with the workmate/ friend and the cabin holiday, the setup, the people there, the con of what should have been a luxury break but wasn't, I wanted her to get on with meeting the Hero.
There are some sort of dubious consent, it's overcome with the shifter, mate calling, sort of I don't really want this, but I do, I can't help it. The mating connection sort of makes it less dark that the author previous books. No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. The Hero is estranged from his pack which gives the author liberty to veer away from shifter theories and mix it up as she wants. Some voyerism. Some alpha male lines worked and some really didnt, for me anyway.
HEA.
I'm not sure if I'd read more in the series....more

Well written.
The Hero's previous mate was murdered and the heroine had been rejected for mating due to lack of ability to shift.
It is a realistic (allowing for the shifter storyline but within that world) look at being widowed, feelings of guilt but joy at finding someone new.
The heroine was in love with one of her perspective suitors particularly, he is devastated when she returns to their village mated to the Hero.
The reader sort of feels it serves him right as it felt like he was stringing her along but didn't feel she was good enough but we learn there was more to it than that so the author makes his situation, although of his own doing, sad for him.
The couple also really talked about things with each other which was refreshing.
Although they both have past relationship history they get together quite quickly then deal with residual feelings as the story progresses along with the enemy plot.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. There are brief references to their previous loves but not much detail.
Lots of potential for future books in series, lots of secondary characters and history of the village and other groups who are either at peace with this group or not.

New author to me. It was a bit different as many mate connection books write that they desperately need to find a vessel to carry on their race but in New author to me. It was a bit different as many mate connection books write that they desperately need to find a vessel to carry on their race but in this book the mating connection is unexpected to the Hero as he is very old and those things have been forgotten. Some humour, quite strong heroine at times.
Possessive, alpha male but she put her foot down firmly at times.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
The heroine has an ex who appears briefly, there are some references to their relationship but in a negative light. The Hero mentions briefly that he has had past encounters with women but things were kept simple. No detail of who or how much.
Secondary characters introduced who could have possibly future books in series.
New world building and new culture, history etc. Plenty of scope for stories.
HEA in form of HFN, no doubt this couple will pop up in future books in the series.
My only negative was it took a while for the couple to actually meet and interact. As it's the first book in the series I get there is world building to do and the premise needs setting up but I like my pair to at least be circling each other a bit quicker than these die. That said he is tracking her so they are both around. Dual POV.
