Mag i rycerz (niezły team, swoją drogą), psy piekielne, duchy o chwiejnej psychice, chytra matka chrzestna będąca elfem (ale nazywa się ją też wiedźmą), a na deser – ektoplazma. Za dużo jak dla mnie. Kiedy myślałam, że to już wszystkie elementy tej układanki i autor będzie się je starał sprytnie zazębić, nagle pojawiły się Wampiry. Jestem w stanie zrozumieć, że w przypadku książek fantastycznych można się spodziewać tego typu postaci. Ale czy koniecznie wszystkie muszą się pojawić w jednym utworze? Dalej – zażenowało mnie, kiedy jedna z bohaterek została nazwana „sprytną”, bo zeszła z linii strzału. Boję się domyślać, jaka jest w takim razie definicja „idiotki” według autora. Bo kobiety nieco mniej inteligentne też się w powieści pojawiają, a jakże. Są jednak tak urocze i tak seksowne, że należy im to wybaczyć. To przecież takie słodziutkie stworzonka. Kolejna sprawa. Miałam to nieszczęście trafić na I wydanie książki. Tłumacz miał naprawdę zły dzień albo korekta przejrzała sobie tekst tylko raz. Żarciki słowne, które mają sens w języku angielskim, na polski zostały przełożone po prostu beznadziejnie. Można było je całkiem usunąć z tekstu albo zastąpić jakimiś innymi. Gdzieś po drodze brakowało słowa w zdaniu. Ponadto komuś „pojawił się” (a nie „objawił się”) duch, co brzmi ohydnie. Książka ma jednak swoje „momenty” i kilka dowcipnych tekstów, o których warto wspomnieć. Na plus można również policzyć „Śmiertelnej groźbie” okładkę, która prezentuje się dość estetycznie i jest bardzo czytelna. Czy coś jeszcze? Subiektywnie raczej nie - ja podczas lektury strasznie się wymęczyłam. Zdaję sobie jednak sprawę z tego, że fani zjawisk nadprzyrodzonych i stworów maści wszelakiej będą patrzeć na powieść bardziej przychylnie. Jeśli się do takowych zaliczasz – spokojnie możesz dorzucić do mojej oceny jeszcze jedną gwiazdkę....more

Cóż, prawda jest taka, że… nie wiem. Za dużo w tym wszystkim absurdu, za dużo abstrakcji. Nie będę czarować - część opowiadań zrozumiałam, innych nie potrafiłam za nic zinterpretować. Może się już starzeję, a może kultura azjatycka jest czymś, czego w życiu nie pojmę. Być może istnieją tez inne powody, ale nie jestem aż tak zdesperowana, żeby teraz podejmować rozpaczliwe próby identyfikacji tychże. „Zniknięcie słonia” momentami dość silnie kojarzyło mi się z „Moim pierwszym samobójstwem…” Pilcha. I… i… no kurczę – skoro Pilch nie jest u nas powszechnie znany i uwielbiany, to jakim cudem jest taki Murakami? Osobiście było mi łatwiej zrozumieć teksty „z naszego podwórka”, a i surrealizmu u Pilcha jakby mniej. Zastanawiam się, czy ogromną rolę odegrał tu marketing, czy faktycznie przegapiłam jakieś wielkie prawdy i idee płynące z opowiadań Japończyka. Teksty Murakamiego czyta się jednak bardzo szybko. To, że momentami są strasznie „odjechane”, nie ma tu żadnego znaczenia. O ile sposób pisania w „Po zmierzchu” w ogóle nie przypadł mi do gustu, o tyle w „Zniknięciu słonia” można już mówić o świetniej współpracy między autorem a tłumaczką. Efekty ich pracy są bardzo „zjadliwe”.
Nie zmienia to faktu, że opowiadania w zbiorze były dla mnie najzwyczajniej w świecie przeciętne (przy założeniu, że jest to ocena uśredniona). Jest jednak w książkach Murakamiego coś, co przyciąga, a co jednocześnie ciężko jest zdefiniować. Jedno oczko wyżej za ten nieuchwytny pierwiastek właśnie, a także za przepiękne wydanie. Pewnie strasznie się narażę fanom autora, ale w całej książce najbardziej podobała mi się okładka. Przynajmniej ona trafiła do mnie w stu procentach. ...more
