The second book is the second part of the ongoing game bet“I want to tell you so many lies”
AMAZING! ALL THE STARS!
Much better than the first book.
The second book is the second part of the ongoing game between Jude and Cardan. Cardan may have become the king of fae, but the master manipulator was Jude. With specific movements, clear thinking and the prediction of her opponents movements; she managed to be the true ruler of the fae. The woman in the shadows that give the orders to Cardan and he needs to obey.
She is tough, she is ruthless, she is determined
Pride is for knights, I remind myself, not for spies.
She is ready to bury her past and survive as much as possible in a place where mortals do not last for long. She is ready to bury her feelings and her sentimentality
Once she’s gone, I take my stuffed animals and seat them next to me on the rug. Once, they were a reminder that there was a time before Faerieland, when things were normal. Once, they were a comfort to me. I take a long last look, and then, one by one, I feed them to the fire. I’m no longer a child, and I don’t need comfort.
And what about Cardan?
Is he a fool?
“And why shouldn’t I delight to see you squirm? You tricked me,” Cardan says. “You played me for a fool, and now I am the King of Fools.” “The High King of Fools,” I say, a sneer in my voice. Our gazes meet, and there’s a shock of mutual understanding that our bodies are pressed too closely.
Is he a pawn?
For a distorted moment, he seems larger than himself, moved into myth, the true High King of Faerie and no one’s puppet. Awe slows my step, panic following at my heels.
Does he have a plan?
I like him better than I’ve ever liked anyone and that of all the things he’s ever done to me, making me like him so much is by far the worst.
Poor Jude...she never stood a chance...
“I have heard that for mortals, the feeling of falling in love is very like the feeling of fear. Your heart beats fast. Your senses are heightened. You grow light‑ headed, maybe even dizzy.” He looks at me. “Is that right? It would explain much about your kind if it’s possible to mistake the two.” “I’ve never been in love,” I tell him, refusing to be rattled. “And of course, you can lie,” he says.
She will let herself being played. Deep down she knows.
The disturbing thing about Cardan is how well he plays the fool to disguise his own cleverness.
This book is so much different than the first one. In “ The Cruel Prince", Jude was focused and attentive. In “The Wicked King”, Jude is in panic mode constantly. Not enough time. Not enough friends. So many secrets. So many back-stabbers So many lies ( no, not by fae. They cannot lie. They can only manipulate)
And everyone has an offer for Jude.
The woman at the prison: “I knew your Eva,” she says to me, eyes glittering in the gloom. “I knew your mother. Knew so many of her little secrets.”
Her adopted father: “You don’t believe that I could care about you, even after you betrayed me?” He watches me with his cat eyes. “I’m still your father.” “You’re my father’s murderer,” I blurt out. “I can be both,” Madoc says, smiling, showing those teeth.
The book of the countless betrayals. Everybody has betrayed or is ready to betray Jude. And Cardan.
“For a moment,” he says, “I wondered if it wasn’t you shooting bolts at me.” I make a face at him. “And what made you decide it wasn’t?” He grins up at me. “They missed.”
And it makes you wonder. What is Jude still doing there? Why does she keep fighting? What is the point of all these? Is it worth it?
“...if Faerieland is the way you say, why do you live here?” I open my mouth, and then shut it. “It’s home,” I say, finally. “It doesn’t have to be”
There are so many twists towards the end. And the question is: who is the best player? Jude or Cardan?
My God, the sexual tension between these two! Their chemistry is off the charts.
Well, after finishing “The Wicked King” in one go, I have to say one thing about this little game of Jude and Cardan that started in book 1 and finished in book 2:
She won the first round, he won the second round. But really he has won both times.
(view spoiler)[...or maybe Jude has won both times. I have the feeling that the ultimate betrayal in the end of the book was Cardan’s best way to protect her for the time being. We will see in book 3. (hide spoiler)]...more

1. FiMain characters: Commander Sazar and Sarah Michaels Type of Kindred bonding: Pitch-Blood Kindred
There are so many interesting things in this book!
1. First of all this is a Christmas book Which means that you will have this Christmas feeling of love and happiness and family. But I would have liked more of it. This is the first book in the Kindred world that talks about Christmas and how they are celebrated in the ship, but we really don’t get many details. We only learn a few things about the Kindred Winter Solstice celebration –but not much really. I just had the feeling throughout the book that the Christmas spirit was building and building, but I did not get its full glory in the end. I wanted a big celebration, a big dinner in the end with Sazar, Sarah and Tsandor. And Sophie, Kat, all the girls, all their children, Sylvan, Baird and all the Kindred. You know, with laughter, lots of food and drinks, strange gifts, mixed customs between the Kindred and the Humans. -Can we please have an extended epilogue somehow?
2. There is this thing with the Prophet, the Controllers, the Brotherhood and the Sisters. The whole brainwash thing with the religious cult that it also expanded in the alien world where Lord Magnate is the “special snowflake” that needs to breed all the females in order to produce special children. Just yak! Disgusting. It helped building up the tension in the book, but it made my skin crawl. I haven’t heard much about this kind of cults in Greece, but I know that they exist almost everywhere in the world.
3. The under the water alien world in planet Alquon Ultrea where the inhabitants are mermaid-like, very sexual, creatures. To be honest I am a bit claustrophobic and I don’t really like water. So this was like a nightmare for me, especially when they were not allowed to leave. But I love thrillers, so I guess it was ok hahaha.
4. The fact that the Kindred warrior has a kid. I don’t think we have seen a Kindred with a kid from another woman before he meets his destined mate. We have seen only human mothers. It was interesting, although there is hardly any interaction between father and son. I am looking forward to seeing them together in the next books –maybe with another son or daughter.
5. Sazar is interesting. Besides the fact that he is a Pitch-Blood Kindred (the Kindred vampires who need blood to function), he is also interesting as a character. Yes, I love grumpy, authoritative, bossy jerks who deep down are sweethearts.
6. There is this other woman concept, which I normally don’t like. Sazar does not stop thinking about his ex-wife and compares her with Sarah and he does not visit his son because he looks like his ex-wife (really heartbreaking and sad). Somehow in this book, this did not bother me much. Maybe because Sarah is a survivor and she just accepts her role as someone who will reunited this family and emotionally is so much stronger than Sazar. You Go, Girl!! ...more

This is the first book where wolf Derek Gaunt is the main character and he is an excellent one! Once he had the face of an angel and girls used to throw themselves at his feet. Now he is scarred and scary, but he is still sentimental and loyal to his friends.

This book combines some of my favorite“Do you feel it? It’s like your hand is wrapped around my heart. Gripping it. Owing it. I’m linked to you, Mad.”
This book combines some of my favorite themes: -short length smuttiness -alpha male, obsessed stalker, deeply in love with his lady -a motorcycle club where our hero is top dog and president -a innocent girl just waiting for the right guy, even if her right guy sells drugs and kills -paranormal romance with an interesting not very common subject: mermaids
It is the first story I read by this author and I know it is not her most well recognized story.
I am looking forward to read some of her long length books, because if this book is just a typical, representative taste I want more! ...more
