Ohhh , swooning....
So, our favourite High King of fairies, Cardan, has returned: “He will be the destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.” Our favourite misplaced mortal, Jude, has returned: “Do you think a seed planted in goblin soil grows to be the same plant as it would have in the mortal world?
And together -almost- all their friends, siblings, family, lovers, warriors, knights, enemies, mortals and fairies are back.... The last time I was here, this place seemed like a beautifully shot horror movie.
Well, if you expect a grand, vicious, unforgiven and unforgiving villain in the story like Madoc and/or Locke; you will probably be disappointed. Of course there will be epic battles and glorious or accidental deaths, but they only happened in order to be themes for fairytales and songs.
Fairies are crazy. They love to -trick mortals -slaughter their enemies and bath into their blood (occasionally eat them.. DON'T BE THAT JUDGMENTAL!) -give without thinking much curses and geases and destroy (even if their curses may come back and bite them) -last for power and to be feared and to be able to humiliate very probably almost everybody else around them -love conspiracies and mind games
BUT
They are really creatures of magic and fantasy. They love to laugh, to dance, to eat and behave drunkenly stupidly. And sometimes even feel love and affection for the insignificant puny humans. Cardan certainly never suspected that the man was beloved of Val Moren and that the seneschal would go mad with grief if the man died.
In the span of three books, the author managed to weave a story that can be characterised as “a beautiful unforgettable fairytale” by using the best storytelling ingredients. I couldn't put the book down until it was finished and I have the suspicion that this happened to everyone who started it.
Sadly it was published middle November and it was too late to compete in 11th annual goodreads choice awards...

READ AT YOUR OWN RISK IF YOU HAVE NOT READ "WICKED KING"
After being pronounced Queen of Faerie and then abruptly exiled by the Wicked King Cardan, Jude finds herself unmoored, the queen of nothing. She spends her time with Vivi and Oak, watches her fair share of reality television, and does the odd job or two, including trying to convince a cannibalistic faerie from hunting her own in the mortal world.
When her twin sister Taryn shows up asking of a favor, Jude jumps at the chance to return to the Faerie world, even if it means facing Cardan, who she loves despite his betrayal.
When a dark curse is unveiled, Jude must become the first mortal Queen of Faerie and uncover how to break the curse, or risk upsetting the balance of the whole Faerie world.
--------------------- --------------------- While we have left Jude stewing in her own juice, Cardan is alone to play.
I am not happy that I have to wait one whole year to see why things happened they way they did happened, but I can be a very good patient girl. (hide spoiler)]...more
I have to admit that I did not particularly like Satan and Jimmy. Satan was too softy and sentimental for a million years old evil guy. He should have been oozing wickedness and corruption. Instead he was far too sensitive for my liking. He is depending upon others to tell him how to be bad. And I certainly couldn't get his connection to Jimmy. I think you have to be extremely desperate to end up with someone like Jimmy with his own personal issues.
On the other hand God is the real deal. Caustic, totally sarcastic and over the top godlike.
“Oh my me,” God said
My personal favourite was Jesus. And his interactions with his daddy, God, are hilarious.
"I promised Jesus I’d take him out cloud fishing today. He’s bitching about it, but—" "I am not!" Jesus cried somewhere off screen. "I just don’t see the point. It’s like you don’t even know me! I wish I was never born and then died and then was reborn again!"
Anyway for a short novel, it is very compact and I am sure everyone will find something in it that it will make him/her laugh or at least smile....more
After the dramatic events under the mountain, Tamlin and Feyre are back home at the Spring Court and unfortunately Feyre experiences severe symptoms oAfter the dramatic events under the mountain, Tamlin and Feyre are back home at the Spring Court and unfortunately Feyre experiences severe symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder.
Maybe I’d always been broken and dark inside.
She can't eat. She can't sleep. She does not want to meet people. She has nightmares. She withdraws from everything and everyone – unless Tamlin is around and he requires sex.
But Tamlin is hardly there.
After 50 years living under the despicable curse and the slavery, his Court needs to repair the damage, the boarders need to be secured , his people need to be certain that they will free and happy from now on. He also looks forward to his wedding with Feyre.
The only thing he does not want is Feyre -roaming free in the forest, -or training, -or learning her new powers, -or concerning about her future, -or worrying about her safety.
He will look after everything for her. But he does not notice that she does not eat, she does not sleep, she is miserable and lonely and she keeps loosing weight.
Feyre starts having second thoughts about the wedding. And moreover Rhysand has not appeared yet asking for her side of their bargain from the previous book. Until one day he appears and he is determined to take her away for a week every month for the rest of her immortal life.
“Hello, Feyre darling,” he purred.
Feyre is confused. Tamlin is furious. Rhysand does not give them any alternative.
“You end her bargain right here, right now, and I’ll give you anything you want. Anything.” My heart stopped dead. “Are you out of your mind?” Tamlin didn’t so much as blink in my direction. Rhysand merely raised a brow. “I already have everything I want.” He stepped around Tamlin as if he were a piece of furniture and took my hand.
Feyre will meet the Court of night for her first time. She will feel free and alive. She will start seeing things more clearly.
“I’m thinking that I was a lonely, hopeless person, and I might have fallen in love with the first thing that showed me a hint of kindness and safety. And I’m thinking maybe he knew that—maybe not actively, but maybe he wanted to be that person for someone.”
And she will start understanding Rhysand’s actions.
“I needed not to be dead when I agreed.” “You needed not to be alone.”
Maybe in this fairytale the princess does not want to be a princess. Maybe she does not want to be saved. Maybe in this fairytale the princess wants to be a warrior. Maybe she needs to be free.
“So I’m your huntress and thief?” His hands slid down to cup the backs of my knees as he said with a roguish grin, “You are my salvation, Feyre.”
Maybe Rhysand wants to give her everything. And more than everything.
“Did you enjoy the sight of me kneeling before you?”
Until Feyre bounces back.
I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal. I was a survivor, and I was strong. I would not be weak, or helpless again. I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.
She will love the darkness in Court of the Night.
“There are different kinds of darkness,” Rhys said. I kept my eyes shut. “There is the darkness that frightens, the darkness that soothes, the darkness that is restful.” I pictured each. “There is the darkness of lovers, and the darkness of assassins. It becomes what the bearer wishes it to be, needs it to be. It is not wholly bad or good.”
She will fall in love with Rhysand.
I met his stare as I clinked my glass against his, the crystal ringing clear and bright over the crashing sea far below, and said, “To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys.” He picked up his glass, his gaze so piercing that I wondered why I had bothered blushing at all for Tarquin. Rhys clinked his glass against mine. “To the stars who listen—and the dreams that are answered.”
Because let's face it. Rhysand is larger than life.
And then Rhysand appeared. He had released the damper on his power, on who he was. His power filled the throne room, the castle, the mountain. The world. It had no end and no beginning.
Feyre will never want to go back to where she was.
“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, Lucien, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
But she needs to be absolutely sure that is what she wants.
“I wonder if, even in my despair and hopelessness, I was never truly alone. I wonder if I was looking for this place—looking for you all.”
The fairies and the humans will not have time to relax. A bigger threat is palpable. And a new war is about to start.
This was my home. These were my people. If I died defending them, defending that small place in the world where art thrived … Then so be it. And I became darkness, and shadow, and wind.
There will be epic battles, many deaths, treason and lies, secrets, much despair and tests, so many tests. The cascading events will result to a few breath-taking twists towards the end and an earthshattering cliff-hanger.
Two comments that I would like to add: 1. I did not particularly like the term “mate”. This is a term that it is almost exclusively used in shifters books and not in books with fairies. I wish a different term was used. 2. The dynamics in the relationship between Rhysand and Feyre reminded me the dynamics in the relationship between one of my favourite couples in PNR: Dragos and Pia from Elder Races by Thea Harrison. Rhysand could easily be a dragon like Dragos. He is also very possessive of his mate, but he also has so many adventures with her and they keep saving each other. Feyre on the other hand eventually can sparkle and her blood has healing power like Pia's....more

The book starts with a note by Larissa: I love food. Love it. In fact, when I travel I plan my itinerary around food and drink. Seriously. I watch shows like Delicious Destinations and keep a file of the restaurants and foods featured in each country and city. Then, along the way during my trip I make sure to stop at these places. I basically eat and drink my way through my vacations...
Well...me, too.
I believe that the most secure way to understand a foreign culture and to fully appreciate a country when you visit for first time is eating their food. Taste the flavours, see the colours on the plates, see the quantity of food that they eat in a daily base, smell the aroma, touch the uncooked ingredients, drink weird drinks and smell and taste strange spices, test your limits. Then you may understand people.
That's the reason when I travel I try eating at local restaurants and visit street markets, supermarkets and try any available snack from every corner shop. I remember the first time I visited Japan, I gained 5 kilos in 14 days hahaha. I was so full the last few days, but I couldn't stop tasting. In the end I was just buying whatever I liked, I was eating a couple of bites and I was throwing away the rest because I simply could not finish it. I was feeling so full that I was about to explode. Anyway, travelling is always fun LOL
So, this is a cooking book and although I have eat lots of stuff so far in my life, there are still ingredients in the book that I didn't know about and some ingredients that in this side of the world that I live I may never find in the supermarket in order to cook the dishes like “Creole seasoning” and “Amber Bock beer” and “Ro-Tel tomatoes”.
Taking into account all these, the recipes I could try are the maybe the one called “family friendly food” because I believe my little monsters will enjoy the “Hell Frozen Over Smoothie Pops” and the “Meatloaf and Monster Mash Cupcakes” (what a great idea!) and I will probably never attempt the “Cauliflower Pizza” because I most probably end up eating it alone.
And if you think this is just a cookbook, you are wrong. This a book that shows how cooking blends into the lives of our beloved monsters from the “Demonica" and “Lords of the Deliverance” series and in a way the author introduces the characters together with the recipes.
So if you are a new reader of the series, you will find out in which book each character firstly appeared. If you are fan of the series and you know each one of the characters, you will be thrilled to learn news about their lives and the lives of their children.
Thus, there is a central theme in the book. Basically all the incidents and the short stories are revolving around two main events:
1. Ares and Cara are about to become parents and they will have a baby shower party 2. Azagoth has closed the gates of Sheoul-gra and no one can get in or out. (Sheoul-gra is the place where bad demons and bad humans go after they die)
If you wonder about the title of the book: It is based on the show “Angel in the Kitchen” that Suzanne presents in cable TV (check book “Her Guardian Angel” by Larissa Ione).
Concluding the are stories about: 1. Declan and Suzanne with recipes about Breakfast/Morning After Food 2. Wraith and Serena with recipes about Romantic/Sexy Food 3. Harvester and Reaver with recipes about Spicy Food 4. Shade and Runa with recipes about Family Friendly Food 5. Reseph and Jillian with recipes about Comfort Food 6. Ares and Cara with recipes about Celebration Food and Snacks And an interview with Eidolon and Tayla with recipes that are author’s favourites. It includes some favourite recipes for pets.
Unfortunately Revenant does not have a story in the book and he is my second favourite after Eidolon (MY ABSOLUTELY FAVOURITE DEMON IN PNR ROMANCE) but that's okay... I hope I will learn some news about him soon.
Enjoy the stories and have fun with the recipes! ...more

I just love stories with fated mates who both try to resist unsuccessfully the mating.
Pandora comes from the future. She was brought to the present by a group of were-panthers in order to be used by them. When she manages to escape, she cannot go back home. So, she visits a DragonCon science finction convection in order to find Acheron and ask for his help. She does not find Acheron straight away, but she discovers a very sexy were-panther and his three brothers.
Dante was invited at the convection by Acheron (naughty matchmaker Acheron) and the last thing he expected was to find his mate there. He simply does not want to get mated. But when he smells Pandora, he cannot escape the Fates.
This is a really good story. Acheron and Simi steal the show. And there is this science fiction convection full with sci-fi lovers, but also full with dark hunters, were hunters and true gods! And with this very hungry cute demon who likes to shop non-stop and who eats almost everything with barbeque sauce. ...more

Besides the fact that this is a classic story of a 'beast' and how he is tamed by a pretty, fearless, innocent at heart girl (the kind of stories I truly love); this is a really important story for the main storyline of the dark hunters. So, if you love this universe, don't miss this book!
Other than that, lots of the main characters from previous books appear. So this is a kind of reunion.
This is also a very important book for Thorn, but you don't actually realise it until the middle of the book. I am so looking forward to his book!
Illarion is also introduced and I am very impressed by him!
If you haven't read any Lords of Avalon and Hellchaser books, you may feel lost. But even if this happens, the lovestory will reward you. And it is nice to discover tougher demons than charonte demons ;)...more

This is a totally irrelevant story to the Dark Hunter series, but it is still a sweet, heartwarming Christmas love story which takes place during Christmas time in old wild Texas.
All I want for Christmas is a man as handsome as the Devil himself.
Catherine had already found someone a few years ago. Then, he abandoned her and her unborn child and she never saw him again. Until this year. Michael is back, wanted by the law and he doesn't know that he has a daughter. He still loves Catherine, but he is bad news.

James Cameron Patric Gallagher (currently Dark Hunter, previously gangster)
A quick heartwarming Christmas theme story about a young Dark Hunter (about 100 years old) who really needs to be part of a family. Gallagher, although he was a feared gangster, was also a beloved husband. Unfortunately he died the night his son was born and he became a dark hunter. Now, he will get the chance to be part of a family again and spend Christmas with them.

It is not a bad story, but I think it tries too hard to be funny (Jeff's idiocy, Celena' paranoia, Daimons and Apolytes' wedding etc.). Unsuccessfully most of the times....more

Renegade "Ren" Waya (Dark-Hunter) and Kateri Avani (Human with the end of world linked to her)
This book is connected with two books: - Night Embrace (DRenegade "Ren" Waya (Dark-Hunter) and Kateri Avani (Human with the end of world linked to her)
This book is connected with two books: - Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter #2) where we met Kateri’s cousin, Sunshine Runningwolf. - Retribution (Dark-Hunter #19) where we met Ren as the best friend of Sundown.
The most interesting part of the story is that it combines Mayan myths and Greek myths.
Ren is the son of the Keetoowah chief Coatl and Sterope, one of the Pleiades and he was raised by the demoness Ravenna. Thus he also developed demonic tendencies and he became Makah'Alay ("demon-crow").
Kateri Avani has always had dreams about a man that she had never seen, until she met Ren. That time she was introduced to paranormal life and she finally met the man of her dreams that she knew that he will kill her.
As I understood, since the book was published in 2012, it was closely related with the 2012 phenomenon in which transformative events would occur on or around 21 December 2012 the end-date of a 5,126-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. Some believed that this would be the end of the world actually.
Since we are still alive and breathing, obviously this book has had a happy ending and Kateri Avani and Ren Waya have saved our asses.

No matter how much I loved the idea of a famous gunslinger in the American Old West who becomes a Dark Hunter in order to avenge his death and the rape of his future wife in their wedding day by his ex-best friend; I had really many problems trying to connect to the main characters.
Notorious William Jessup was not bad, but I did not really like Abigail. How can I like someone who all her life was killing nice Dark Hunters only because she was told to kill them without using some common sense and doing some research beforehand? Yes, she was totally an idiot.
Moreover, honestly I am not a fan of love stories between older men and young women -especially when the older guy knows the woman since she was in diapers and he was her mother’s best friend. William used to be Abigail’s mother best friend and a constant argument between Abigail’s mother and Abigail’s father who was jealous.
My favorite character from this book was definitely William’s squire.

It is the place also where Dark hunters, Were hunters, Gods, Apollites and Daimons can hide if they are in trouble and get some medical help if they are injured. The motto is only one: Come In Peace, Or Leave In Pieces]
Aimee and Fang are now the new bar management and the bar is still some kind of sanctuary, but not officially.
Dev is one of the quadruplet Peltier bears (with Cherif, Quinn, and Remi) and a bouncer at a paranormal bar. Now that he feels that this is time to change things (he never liked the life in the bar anyway); he meets Samia.
Samia is an ex-Amazon and currently a dark hunter (a blond Xena) and one of the Dogs of War. Dev is the only creature that makes her feel peace and quiet inside her. Samia has psychometry so she can feel what everyone thinks and feels around her – except Dev. Naturally these two will end up together, although Dev really does not want to mate.

Cratus is the guy who helped to imprison Prometheus. He has spent the majority of his life in Olympus as the lapdog of Zeus without thinking much. Until one day, he refused to murder an infant and his punishment was out of this world. Zeus took his godhood and Cratus was thrown to Earth where he had to live like a mortal. He could not accumulate money and wealth and he could not sleep in peace because every night his mortal heart was ripped out from his chest and the next morning a new heart was back in its place.
Obviously Cratus hates Gods, obviously he wants revenge. So when Gods need his help, obviously he chooses to join the enemy, Noir and Azura (two out of the six first Gods who are pure concentrated evil). Now Crratus is called Jericho and he is out for blood.
Delphine is sent by Zeus to try and convince Cratus to help them. During her attempts to approach him, she is captured by Noir and Azura and she is given to Cratus as a slave. She discovers that Scoti (the Oneroi slaves of emotions) help Noir and Azura, but only because the two evil Gods have been drugging Scoti during their dream state.
Delphine and Cratus will fall in love and then Cratus will realize that not slaughtering this infant thousands of years ago, was one of the wisest decisions of his life.
The mythology in this book is awesome. Old Greek myths and the author’s imagination are tangled together and produce an amazing complex world. It is one of the few times, we actually see Zeus in action and the whole Greek Gods and Goddesses pantheon takes sides and shows its cruelness and arrogance. Well done! ...more

Apostolos: Απόστολος in greek, i.e. the man with a mission His Soteria: Η Σωτηρία του in greek i.e. his salvation
Their song: Prison gates won't open up for me On these hands and knees I'm crawlin' Oh, I reach for you, well I'm terrified of these four walls These iron bars can't hold my soul in All I need is you, come please, I'm callin' And, oh, I scream for you Hurry, I'm fallin', I'm fallin' Show me what it's like To be the last one standing And teach me wrong from right And I'll show you what I can be Say it for me, say it to me And I'll leave this life behind me Say it if it's worth saving me (Savin' Me Nickelback)
I think I have developed a major crush on Acheron after I read his book. I could write sonnets, haikuς and erotic poems to tell you all about my love for him BUT I think I will just describe his book for you. It is a very very long book, but it is not boring. It expands in two time periods roughly and it basically has six parts:
TIME PERIOD 1: Starting on May 9, 9548 BC and finishing on April 10, 9526 BC with a short additional chapter that takes place in 7382 BC. Part 1: Appollymi’s sacrifice Part 2: The Diary of Ryssa, Princess of Didymos. The story until Ryssa is given to Apollo. Part 3: Acheron’s point of view. The story that starts when Ryssa’s diary finishes and concludes when Acheron - as finally a God- depends completely on Artemis in order to feed. Part 4: Acheron starts training his Dark Hunters (you may have already read this story in The Beginning-Dark-Hunter #0.5)
TIME PERIOD 1: PRESENT DAY Part 5: When Acheron meets Soteria Part 6: Epilogue and happily ever after
During the first time period (BC); Acheron experienced hatred, abandonment, betrayal, fear, pain, humiliation, weakness, torture, rape, hunger and thirst. Acheron was the kid that his parents did not want to know. He was abandoned in his uncle claws and his became his tsoulos, i.e. his trained whore who was sold to the richest people (men and women) in Atlantis. Acheron is a God, but during his childhood he was just a human. His mother Apollymi hid him in a mortal woman’ womb (a queen nevertheless) and he was born with his twin brother Styxx as a mortal baby. Only his eerie eyes proved his unique heritage. The problem is that as a human (before his god powers were unlocked), Acheron was so weak and easy to hurt. His mortal parents were afraid of him, so he was sent far away to his uncle and they did not want to know anything about what his uncle was doing to him. His sister Ryssa was the only one who loved him, but her love caused more trouble than good for poor Acheron. Goddess Artemis was his lover, his friend and then the worst manipulator and bitch.
During the second time period (present); Acheron experiences pure love, commitment, unconditional sacrifice, trust and true friendship. His Soteria (Tori) will make him see the world in a different perspective. She will cherish him, embrace him, feed him even when he is not hungry (she is a Greek girl after all that needs to feed her loved ones until they burst), accept his past and acknowledge their common future.
If the first time period represents the darkness and the desperation, the second time period represent the light and the hope. I loved the book as a whole, but I would like to point out two things that I found weird: 1. For someone who has been trained the art of seduction and all his life he was basically whoring himself; Acheron behaves far too innocently with Soteria in their intimate moments and there are many things that he had not tried before. 2. Acheron tries desperately to hide his old life and his negotiations with Artemis from the Dark Hunters who are also his friends. I mean, Why? Most of them have been raped at least once in their mortal life and all of them had been betrayed and humiliated more than once. I am sure they will understand when they find out about his sacrifices....more

Xypher is the son of nightmares’ god and a demoness. He used to be dead and constantly tortured badly at Tartarus, because he fell in love with a BITCH centuries ago and he took the blame for all the disaster that she caused. When he is given a second chance in the previous book to live again for one month and right the wrong; Xypher thinks only of revenge. Satara has to die and Xypher will never trust another woman EVER.
“I see dead people”
Simone is a nice lady and a medical examiner who DOES believe in paranormal. As a matter of fact she works closely with a squire to solve cases mostly caused by Daimons. And her best friend (almost a beloved brother really) is a ghost who actually lives with her since the day Simone lost her family and she was a little kid.
