I love the setup with Peppi and Jamie's first awkward encounter, and how the guilt of that moment stays with Peppi. The conflict between the art and science club seems overly contrived and runs long and which led me to grow very weary of the storyline about 120 or so pages in. But I stuck with it, and the finale was pretty satisfying with lots of positive messages. Chmakova writes mostly YA graphic novels, so I was afraid this might be more MID appropriate, but it's perfectly fine for elem students. One reference to a "lazy b$$$$ mother" which seemed entirely unnecessary was the only even mildly controversial element in the story. Nice end of book artistic notes by Chmakova....more
