Blue Blood Trilogy by May Sage **2 Stars I loved the way this started. Alien race invading earth because of fertility issues. Some are nice some are mean, some people accept and others fight back. Lena was great and I loved her relationship with the Emperor and his cousin. It was so fun that I was able to ignore the fact that it read like an epilogue. Then it just got annoying. The never-ending sarcasm and sass, the unnecessary secret keeping, the overly dramatic responses. I made it to the last chapter and literally couldn't will myself to read it, I just didn't care anymore. 2. Changed by Debbie Herbert **2 PR Stars This wasn't really good or bad, just kind of meh. I get that it was a short story but I think there was too much squeezed into this one. 3. Redd's Descent (Dark Wood Series) *1 DNF Star I thought this seemed like an interesting premise but a chocolate chip cookie in someone's nether regions was just seriously disturbing. 4. Theta Waves (Book 1) by Thea Atkinson **2 Stars This wasn't terrible, just not for me. A post apocalyptic world where anything religious is snuffed out immediately. A girl who can see someone's past lives by tasting their blood and she's also a drug addict. And then she gets grabbed by a bounty hunter and goes on the run. This was weird, and once they started to get too into the past lives thing, I gave up...I'm really just not into stuff like that. 5. Dead Town Angel (Foxblood .05) by Raquel Lyon Not Interested 6. Garda: Welcome to the Realm by Stacy Eaton Not Interested 7. Messiah by J.E. Taylor Not Interested 8. Moon Coven by Connor Kressley *1 DNF Star Julia and Roman are from rival covens but they love each other. They maybe dated for a while...then Julia tried to kill herself and Roman went blind in one eye. What happened was never really explained (up to the point I read anyway) and it became extremely infuriating to read a book stemming from events that you're never told. 9. Royal Seduction (Paranormal Seduction #1) by Isis Pierce *1 DNF Star This had an annoying heroine who was so sure that everything she read in paranormal romace books must be fact. Oh, and she was super confused when people who had different hair color were twins (especially after she described the one as having bleach blond hair). And this had the most awkward and ridiculous "shifters meeting their mate" scene. 10 Sorceress Found (Gargoyle & Sorceress) by Lisa Blackwood Not Interested 11. Laws of Attraction by Jayne Faith *1 Star This an ok premise but just didn't work for me. With everything going on it made no sense for Spider to be there, and Jake didn't seem like he would work with someone like that. So it just seemed like he was only there to cause conflict, and that just fell flat. 12. The Scavengers by S.M. Schmitz Not Interested 13. The Vorkian by Nirina Stone Not Interested 14. Unleashed (#1) by Rachel McClellan Not Interested 15. Verity by Kerry Adrienne Not Interested 16. The Night by N.R. Larry *1 DNF Star This was strange...I don't think we really need a break down of every step of going to the bathroom. 17. Hunter Bond by Carysa Kaye Not Interested 18. The Deepest Black by Rainy Kaye *1 PR DNF Star A girl goes around killing evil fae...because she can see them for no reason. She runs into a fae she has seen before and they decide to team up. This is very long winded and it makes no sense...the characters are flat and I gave up a little more than halfway through. 19. Flames of Auriel (Celestial War Chronicles #1) by Erin Bedford *1 DNF Star Spoiled princess doesn't want to do princess things because wearing dresses and learning your responsibilities is dumb. She is promised to marry the spoiled prince with no personality. I'm just over female leads who promote the idea that doing "girly" things is somehow wrong or embarrassing. Just because something may not appeal to you does not make it bad. ...more |

His Wild Highland Lass by Terry Spear ***3 Stars Sorcha runs from her home because of unwanted advances from her brother in law. Ronan finds he and takes her in but has to keep his distance because as Laird he needs to make a politically advantageous match. Sorcha doesn't give up though and is constantly trying to get his attention. This was very cute. Not great, not he best characters but it was short so it never strayed from being just a cute and satisfying read. 2. The Highlander's Charm (Stolen Bride #9) by Eliza Knight ****4 Stars Samuel returns from France finding his sisters gone and presumably taken by some savage highlanders. Catriona's home has been taken over by some less than reputable Englishmen. They decide to work together to save his sisters and her castle. Along the way their initial attraction grows with admiration and respect. This was really cute...and even though it was too short for the love to be a slow burn it definitely developed. These characters were great and really just made you want to read more. 3. Heart of Stone by Willa Blair **2 Stars Marsali performs a spell to bring her true love to her so she can escape an unwanted marriage. Gavan happens by on their way home. Marsali follows him home and wants to marry him...he wants to marry him too but won't admit it. This was ok, just kinda flat. 4. Kilts & Kisses (#1) by Victoria Roberts **2 Stars Ceana's parents were killed 2 years ago and ever since she and her sister Anna have been very poorly treated by their aunt, uncle and cousin. Luthais is the son of a Laird who does not always live up to his fathers expectations. They meet by chance and a classic case of mistaken identity ensues. This was ok...had some sweet moments...had some moments that I think were supposed to be funny....and one of the characters had the most unbelievable change of hearts that I have ever read. 5. My Captive Highlander (Highland Adventure #7) by Vonda Sinclair ****4 Stars After his boat is destroyed at sea, Shamus washes up in enemy territory and held hostage for ransom. Maili has visions and feels like she needs to help Shamus but worries about her older brother's cruelty. They have to sneak around to see each other and have to out maneuver the hatred their clans have for each other. Maili and Shamus were both likeable characters and I enjoyed the writing as well. ...more |

Torn by Dean Murray Not Interested I did not like the first book in this series and after 2 chapters I had no desire to give this one a chance either. Unlikeable characters and zero world building. 2. Awaken (Awakened Fate #1) by Sky Malone ***3 Stars Chloe has always wanted to visit the ocean but her parents are creepily adverse to her having anything to do with water. So like any good teenager, she goes on vacation with her friend Bailey to a beach house. Turns out that she is part mermaid and there is a whole cult of creatures that want to sacrifice her to in order to gain more power. While all this is going on she gets closer to Bailey's brother Noah who has his own secrets. Zeke is a merman who discovers Chloe and can't figure out how she doesn't know what she is and why she seems to be different. This was very ok. There were so many angles to it, and I didn't think it was explained very well...I still couldn't tell you how Bailey's family is all related. And there were just too many made up words that didn't have a clear pronunciation (I know there was a guide in the front but I don't have the patience to flip back and forth on the kindle app) so I ended up just getting the gist of things instead of an actual understanding. 3. Beautiful Demons (Shadow Demon Saga #1) by Sara Cannon ****4 Stars (PR) Harper is an orphan with strange powers that have forced her from many foster homes. She ends up at Shadowford in the town of Peachville, and it's not long before she notices some strange things. The town seems to be run by some strong women who also seem to be like Harper. When Harper becomes one of the popular crowd she enjoys it but things also seems off to her...if only she could remember. 4. Five (Elemental Enmity #1) by Christie Rich **2 Stars (PR) This one had so much potential but so many things wrong with it... -There was a lot of inconsistencies to the story: she went for a run but then remarked about her jeans. who wears jeans when they go for a run... -The dialogue felt like it should have been in a regency romance which may make sense for the fae characters but how was it that no one thought it odd -There were a lot of things that seemed superfluous...like Natalie, was she necessary? -and all anyone kept saying was how Rayla couldn't be left alone but all anyone did was leave her alone. -Rayla and Cassie were allegedly best friends but it really seemed like they hated each other... It was just a struggle to finish... 5. Bitterrot by SM Reine & Heather Hildenbrand **2 Stars Charlie is a werewolf who lives with her mom until one night she is kidnapped and brought to her father's pack. She immediately learns she has a sister whom she will have to fight for the right to be alpha of the pack. Oh and whoever wins is also going to have to marry a vampire. This seemed like it could be ok, but there was too much story in too short a book to really have any feeling. 6. Bound by Duty (Bound #1) by Stormy Smith ***3 Stars (PR) I have mixed feelings about this one. I liked the initial story but I don't think enough details were revealed by the end to really make it satisfying. Most of the time Amelia was just crying that everyone was always hiding things from her, which was true but I could have done without a few of those scenes...they just became repetitive and the middle of the book just had no spark to it. The characters were ok, none were great. And just the whole let's not tell Amelia what's going on because it will protect her just made no sense. It seems to me that if she had any clue what was going on she would have been way better at dealing with everything. So overall it was ok, I may read the next one but I won't rush to do so. 7. Ignited (#1) by Desni Dantone ***3 Stars Kris's parents were murdered when she was a small child, when she was a little older she was rescued from an unsafe foster home, and most recently she was pulled from the wreckage of a fatal car accident. Each time she saw a man with blue eyes...now he shows up again and is not quite the angel she dreams of him being. Kris finds herself in the middle of an ancient war between good and evil and turns out both sides want her dead....except for one guy from each side that is head over heels for her. This was ok, I thought there was a good amount of action and a good amount of romance and I liked the mythology twist. I thought the end there was a bit too much of "no, I care more about Kris"...but besides that I very much enjoyed it and will read the next in the series. 8. King of Ash and Bone (Shattered Realms #1) by Melissa Wright **2 Stars Mackenzie's brother is marked by one of the flying beasts that invaded their world and they don't know what it means. To protect her Riley runs off to join the army where he has to hide his mark to avoid being quarantined. After he leaves Mackenzie unknowingly saves the life of the one who basically caused all of it. This was ok, could have been a lot better if I really understood what was going on. There was lots of talk of kings and guards and sons of sons being chosen or something but none of it came together to form a cohesive story in my opinion. I liked the relationship between Mackenzie and Hunter and would have just liked to have been able to understand the worlds a bit more. 9. Xoe (Xoe Meyers #1) by Sara C. Roethle **2 Stars Xoe and her friends live in a small town where nothing ever happens, until....So this new kid Dan starts cool and is super weird. He stares and lurks and just generally is off putting, but he is hot so Xoe's friends want to hang out with him. Dan ends up scratching Lucy to turn her into a werewolf like him, enter Jason, a vampire who has been tracking Dan. The group comes together to protect Lucy and Xoe discovers that she's not quite human herself. I thought the story idea was a decent one but it just didn't come together in a satisfying way. The girls acted like none of these near death experiences were really a big deal...and if this book was funny then I could have been ok with it. 10. Meeting Destiny **2 Stars (PR) This is another book that I felt the actual development of the story took a back seat to how "connected" the main characters felt. This is from the blurb... 'A mysterious clairvoyant seeks Lauren out and tells her not only of her life now but what the future may hold. Soon Lauren is in the middle of a murder investigation and a questionable friendship with the key suspect. Law enforcement, friends and family are concerned for Lauren but unfortunately they are unaware of the true danger…Sinister forces are at work and will stop at nothing to destroy Lauren’s abilities.' Ok, so i felt the mysterious clairvoyant just gave her a bunch of random info about mates and protectors and told her to figure it out. And after the first half of the book i didn't sense too much concern coming from her parents, her mom just seemed over it. And what is this about sinister forces? That sounds interesting I would have liked to read that. ...more |

1. Leopard Print Love by J.M. Klaire **2 Stars Callie was knocked up and dumped, now she's headed to her best friends wedding on a remote island. Wade 1. Leopard Print Love by J.M. Klaire **2 Stars Callie was knocked up and dumped, now she's headed to her best friends wedding on a remote island. Wade, the pilot taking her to this island, is a leopard shifter and scents her as his mate. The crash and learn to live with each other on a deserted island hoping for rescue. That description sounds great and I really thought I would enjoy this. It started off pretty good and then steadily deteriorated. I don't know what it was but I couldn't get attached to either character. Their "playful" banter was so bad it made me cringe, so not really endearing. It just really didn't come together for me, at all. 2. Too Hard to Bear (Honeycomb Valley Bears #1) by Amy Alders *1 Star This was a strong meh for me. A heroine who has curves but also seems to have a really unhealthy obsession with whipped cream...which was supposed to be cute maybe? A hero who is obscenely rich and doesn't believe in love blah blah blah. The fact that it's the same old story doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is two flat main characters who just aren't likeable. 3. Moonshine Alpha (Shift Once For Love #1) by S.G. May *1 Star I did not care for the writing style of this one. It was really choppy and 90% of the time I had no idea who was talking, who they were talking to, who was a vampire and who was a werewolf. So since those are all important points to enjoying a story, this one only gets one star. 4. Shadow Bear (Reserve Park Bears #1) by Ava Hunt PR **2 Stars I liked the premise...a female bear shifter is told she has a genetic defect and should not mate or have cubs struggles to find a new direction for her life. The execution however was seriously lacking for me. When she first got the news Jeneva was devastated and wouldn't even consider the idea of going against the council's wishes...but when it came down to actually doing it, she didn't think twice about mating. Then there was Rayner thinking that for Jen to experience anything about the world she had to have sex...and then others agreed. And everything just happened so fast that you couldn't really get a feel for the characters and there wasn't enough explanation of the Den for everything to make sense. Just meh. 5. Heart of the Lion by Thanika Hearth *1 Star A rag tag group of shifters starting a security company ask a wannabe cat burglar to join them. This just didn't come together, I felt like I was missing a ton of information. And all of the characters were really over the top and I couldn't get into it. 6. Oso Stubborn (Boys of Beartooth Bay #1) by Claire Ryann ****4 Stars Ethan realizes that Mindy is his mate but isn't sure how to tell her. Mindy knows Ethan is a shifter and doesn't mind because she figures there's no strings attached to their relationship because he will find his mate one day. So of course she doesn't believe him about her being his mate and she has enough financial problems to deal with without more heartache. This was really cute. I thought at times Mindy was a little too bristly but the story moved quickly so it worked in this case. Short, sexy and sweet...my favorite kind of story. 7. The Panther's Baby by Alyse Zaftig ***3 Stars This was a little difficult to rate because Javier was not likeable at all. But the story itself was fast paced and interesting. Two people have a one night stand after a masquerade. The girl is pregnant and finds the guy to tell him. Guy demands they enter a loveless marriage which they will dissolve after aforementioned child is old enough. Everything was just a tad over the top but somehow it kinda worked in this case. 8. Jax's Mate (Black Bear Park #1) by Aurora Reid ***3 Stars Mia's logging company and Jax's bear clan have not been on good terms for a long time. Mia wants to work with the bears to help save her company but they aren't exactly welcoming. Jax, however recognizes Mia as his mate and the two hope to explain their side of things while the sparks are flying. A cute, short, sexy story. Nothing crazy about it but well written and entertaining. ...more |

Laid Bear (#1) by Marina Maddix *1 Star Bethany is constantly told by all of her friends that she's gorgeous but she "knows" they're just being nice. They have to be lying because all the drunken jerks that she picks up at bars are, well, jerks. Now, her new neighbor Max seems to be flirting with her but nah he is way out of her league. And he's also a bear who's uncle hates her and who may or may not be able to have kids with her. So instead of talking to Max about her concerns about their relationship she listens to a third party that wants to break them up. Bethany was a stuck up teenager trapped in an insecure adult. She felt that everything she thought was right and no one else could possibly have a clue about anything and her incessant whining that nothing ever goes right just got on my nerves. 2. Badgering the Bear (Mate in a Minute #1) by Flora Dare ***3 Stars Jolie loses a bet and has to go to a speed dating event to check out potential mates. Seems like this is a waste until she meets Gabe. They see each other again and things are going swell until Jolie finds out that Gabe has been dishonest about some things. They both want each other but have to get over their own past hurts to make things work. This was very cute, I thought Gabe and Jolie were great characters who had reasonable and believable reactions to things despite that they aren't fully human. 3. My Curse to Bear (Everson Brothers #1) *1 Star Merrie is a witch, but she's not very good at it so she moves away from her disappointed family and opens a magic shop. Craig is a bear shifter who was cursed by a witch because he hurt her feelings. This book started out ok and then just spun out of control. The whole reincarnation bit just didn't work for me and I didn't have any nice feelings for Merrie by the end. Also, all of the siblings really need to get a life or least stop being a bunch of condescending know it alls. 4. Bear Prince (Royal Bears #1) by Emma Alisyn *1 Star Hannah is a struggling dancer on scholarship, Andrei is a prince ho recognizes Hannah as his mate. They form a connection withouth Hanna even knowing his real name let alone that he is a prince. They mate, she eventually finds out that she is now a princess and then has to deal with all of that. This was close to being a 4...then I read the second to last chapter. I though Hannah was a good character, was hard working, and didn't take anyone's crap but I thought it was idiotic that she didn't want to know who Andrei was. Andrei was an ok character but how can you let someone you care about be that idiotic and not prepare them for how much their life is going to change. And finally when Hannah throws a hissy fit and runs home to her parents I was just over it. I felt this was the true Hannah and not the one who was pretending to be a strong willed independent woman. 5. Releasing Her Dragon (Dragon Blood #1) by Elianne Adams **2 Stars Stella has found her mate and just in time, she is close to shifting to her dragon form never to be human again (No real explanation for that). Brycen is her mate and senses her looking for him but he's working as some sort of bodyguard to some woman and has to wait till the job is over (there are other men that work with him, no stated legitimate reason that he can't be with Stella). And there's hunters and lost families and all sorts of things that are there and never explained. This probably would have been more enjoyable without all of the extras because all they did was confuse you with minimum information. 6. Coercion by Chloe Cole ****4 Stars (PR) After Willa is dumped by her long time friend and alpha her parents decide to give her to Drake, a dragon shifter, to form an alliance. Willa is unaware this agreement has been made and doesn't take too kindly to the meddling. Eventually she softens to Drake and even wants to stay but a lack of communication between the newlyweds leads to some painful misunderstandings. This was a sale book from Barnes and Noble and was exactly what I was looking for. It was light, sexy and you definitely felt for Drake and Willa. I may even go on to read Etienne's story next. 7. Andre (Rocked by the Bear #1) by V. Vaughn *1 Star Nessa wants to get married, have babies and lead a life similar to her mother's country club style. When her sister informs her that they have werebear blood and now that she found her mate she can shift... And when Nessa and the other triplet find their true mates they will shift too. Nessa is horrified and fights her attraction for band mate Andre. This just wasn't for me. Nessa was crushing on TA Eric, who seemed fine and then all of a sudden he's a drunken mess? She doesn't want to commit to Andre for forever and in the next breath she tells him she loves him. But overall I think that two people singing to each other is just super awkward and not something that I find romantic at all. 8. For Shift's Sake by Mina Carter ***3 Stars On his way to a life of retirement in Las Vegas bear shifter Reese stops to check on the sister of one of his army buddies. He quickly discovers that Bobbi is his mate and there are a few shady characters in town who have been giving her a hard time. This was pretty cute. Big bad bear trying not to freak out his human mate whilst going all alpha on everyone who has been messing with her. It does get a little tiresome though when the females in these stories assume that any bit of information that has been omitted is because the male in question couldn't actually want someone like them. 9. Lonely Bear (Bear Bluff Clan #6) *1 Star Chloe discovers her finace cheating on her and takes a hike (literally) to clear her head a bit. She falls and cannot make her way home before it gets dark. Nate, a bear shifter, who retrested to the woods after seeing Chloe at her engagement party. She is his destined mate and he didn't want to break up her relationship so he left. He rescues her from hypothermia and when he hears of her broken engagement has to figure out a way to get her to be with him now. This was not my cup of tea. Chloe's dad was a jerk to her for a really long time...you lose the excuse of it being a coping mechanism after a few months, then you're just a bad person. And what's up with him sending 3 creepy hunter guys to rescue her? Oh and one second she sleeps with Nate and then accusing him of just being after her money. 10. He Ain't Lion (Ridgeville #1) by Celia Kyle ***3 Stars (PR) Maya is in a rut and decides to take part in the shifters night of debauchery. Of course, she doesn't have all the details about this night and she ends up mated to the alpha with a lioness of her own. I really liked the first half...it was cute, sexy and funny. The second half...not as much. Maya's reaction got a little obnoxious and so did her need to say "what-evah"...that was not endearing. ...more |

She endured years o 1.Faerie Blood (The Changeling Chronicles #1) by Emma L. Adams ***3 Stars Ivy was kidnapped my an evil Faery when she was a child. She endured years of abuse but eventually killed him, inherited his magic and found her way home to a very different world. The Faery's invaded and "saved" humanity from themselves. In their wake, they left destruction and a society of divided groups. Ivy finds a life as a mercenary out of the attention of anyone who might not be pleased to find out about her stolen magic. She gets involved in a case of a missing child with apparent faery involvement. This brings her under the scrutiny of the Mage Lord and things just get more out of hand from there. Necromancers, half fey ghosts, vengeful bosses, and a possible portal to Faery opening again. This was very entertaining. I thought Ivy was a great character, there were times I wanted to shake her into confiding in her friends but her thought process was reasonable. I would have liked to know a bit more about Vance and Isobel, which is a good thing. A problem I had was that some of the information didn't seem to jive with what happened later. We are told that Vance could displace/transport people in theory but it is draining and that everything can drain him. But he did all that and a whole bunch more and never seemed to be any less powerful. It was just kinda odd, and I kept thinking about it. Besides that I liked this enough to check out the next in the series. 2.Fairy, Texas (#1) by Margo Bond Collins **2 Stars Laney's mother remarries and they relocate to Fairy, Texas. A place that is every stereotype of a small town except for all the supernatural creatures. Now Laney is stuck in a town where an evil leader has two of the young members of their group basically trying to impregnate her with the antichrist...so to speak. This wasn't terrible I liked the whole secret order who are able to exist in two worlds...I didn't mind the whole heroine potentially being used to start Armageddon but a lot of the little things annoyed me. I get Laney's stepsister was upset about her dad's marriage but she was a bit over the top awful for my tastes. There was also a lot of casual talk about sexual assault and rape and I thought that was a bit heavy for the tone of the rest of the book. I didn't get why Josh and Mason had to be such big fat liars and I didn't see how turning Laney into a big tramp helped anything. Overall this had a bunch of good ideas and a lot of potential but just didn't come together for me. 3.Dust and Moonlight by Keta Diablo *1 Star Kira's grandmother was a witch and Kira's mother used a love potion to bring her father to her from another time and place. Or so they say, Kira has a tough time believing this...although she is perfectly ok with having a magical gut instinct and trusting that random dream images she has are clues for her to follow. As a criminal profiler Kira is helping the FBI track down a serial killer and thinks its a great idea to follow the previously mentioned serial killer and confront him. Somehow this near death experience lands her in another time and place and in the arms of Prince Balion. The prince is looking for a way to defeat their enemy once and for all and Kira is looking for a way back home, but neither want to do anything without the other. This was very rushed with a heroine who was really annoying and a hero who threatened rape anytime he was denied. The story was rather drawn out with so many moving pieces that none of it really made any sense at all. 4.The Fairy Bargain by Blaire Edens Not Interested 5. Madame Lilly, Voodoo Priestess (#1) by Dormaine G **2 Stars Odara is the daughter of a Creole woman and her whit common law husband. She then "marries" a rich white man at the urging of her father and is subjected to years of abuse of every kind. As she learns that people will not risk themselves to help another she becomes more and more distraught. She eventually turns to dark voodoo practices to try and gain revenge against those who wronged her and those who let it happen. This was ok, I think it was not my particular cup of tea and felt a little incomplete. 6.Her Wolf by Erin Hayes Not Interested 7.The Man in Black by Steffanie Holmes Not Interested 8.Silenced (Grand Elite Castor #1) by K.N. Lee Not Interested 9.Wicked Satyr Nights (Cursed Satyroi #1) by Rebekah Lewis *1 Star Kat is given a job offer she can't refuse. She is going to do a documentary about the Jersey devil, even though it goes against all her morals as a scientist. The devil itself is actually the greek god Pan who is living out his cursed existence messing with mortals who stumble upon him. He is fascinated by Kat though and wants her even though it is pretty obvious his enemies sent her. The idea behind the story was ok but I just couldn't get interested in it. Pan, Dionysus and the other satyrs fell really flat and I though Kat was a little too full of herself to be very likeable. Just not my cup of tea. 10.Good as Dead (Dying to Meet You #1) by C.P. Mandara *1 Star I feel like too often when authors write a strong /tough woman that she is a nasty bitch. Having an attitude does not automatically make you strong or particularly intelligent. 11.Limerence (#1) by Claire C. Riley Not Inerested 12.Angel Grace (Ryan Chronicles #1) by J.E. Taylor Not Interested ...more |

Dire Straits (Bo Blackman #1) by Helen Harper **2 Stars Bo is a naïve young woman who is determined to become a private investigator. Despite her rich Dire Straits (Bo Blackman #1) by Helen Harper **2 Stars Bo is a naïve young woman who is determined to become a private investigator. Despite her rich grandfather's connections she decides to start at the bottom and pay her dues. A routine assignment turns out to be an attempted murder that she is apparently being framed for. She eventually gives in to vampire Michael's request that she join his House to help investigate the recent unexplained deaths of humans and vampires. She bumbles through her investigation and almost accidentally figures out which direction to point the vampires in. This wasn't a bad idea for a story but I found myself completely bored. And I don't think the ending was enough of a payoff for the struggle of completing this one. Dog with a Bone (Black Dog #1) by Hailey Edwards ***3 Stars (PR) Thierry is the only one in her class to graduate and become a Marshall, who police fae crimes on earth. She is then partnered with her instructor/keeper/crush for her first few months on the job. A routine call turns into something much bigger and every time they think they get to the bottom of it things just get worse. Being half human Thierry has an affinity for the race that none of the other fae share. This makes things a little tense sometimes...As does her attraction to Shaw, an attraction that he returns. While trying to work out her feelings she also is still learning about her death powers she received from her absentee fae father. And when it seems that regular humans may behind the atrocities Thierry needs to rethink her ideas about good, evil and justice. I did read this out of order and I did like the second one more that this one. I felt that there wasn't enough information given in this one about anything, which led it to feel a bit incomplete. Dead Rising (The Templar #1) by Debra Dunbar **3 Stars Aria is a Templar, but when she came of age she decided to not take the Oath to become a Knight and instead moved to a crappy apartment in Baltimore. She is slightly disillusioned by the Templar's hands off stance on things and wants to make more of a difference in the world. She is asked by the local vampires to research a symbol for them.. Before she knows it she is stuck between the vampires and a necromancer and doesn't feel that either side is totally right or wrong. She has to use all of her minimal connections to stop more bloodshed and manage to not get fired from her job at the coffee house. Oh and don't forget about the super hot vampire Dario that makes her wonder how bad being a blood slave could really be. I was really enjoying this. I thought Aria was an interesting character and I liked the whole modern day Templar thing. I checked out slightly when after a battle, Aria decided it was a good idea to let an injured blood crazed vampire feed from her, because they probably wouldn't kill her... that scene stuck with me for the rest of the book and dropped my rating. I also didn't love how it just kinda stopped, I could have used a few more paragraphs of some closure. But, I did enjoy it and will probably continue reading. Influential Magic (Crescent City Fae #1) by Deanna Chase *1 Star Willow bakes with her fairy magic and has a very successful business. She is also an agent for a supernatural group that police supernatural stuff....or something like that, it wasn't very clear what the heck was going on. So her aunt is the corrupt leader, Willow shows some strange powers that everyone wants to exploit and she basically gets tugged in a million directions. And then there's her ex turned vampire, her brother's death/murder, and her brothers friend/her love interest. The story was not well organized and Willow was just awful. Her friends were a bunch of jerks but then again, so was she. She got mad at them for stupid stuff but when they lied and manipulated her and put her life in danger she was all like "oh well I guess they had no other choice". Grow a freaking backbone and stop letting people walk all over you, especially when you want to keep saying that you can take care of yourself. I stopped reading because I could not care less what happened to any of these characters and I wasn't really sure what the story was. Forbidden (Tempted #1) by Selene Charles *1 DNF Star The whole first chapter was Flint embarrassing herself in front of her new school because of an attractive boy. It's one thing to find someone attractive but to lose all brain function because of it just annoys me as a characteristic in my female lead. All For A Rose (The Blood Realm #1) by Jennifer Blackstream **2 Stars Maribel's family lost their money and moved to a farm. Maribel is the happiest she's ever been but her sister is miserable and her health seems to be declining. When given the opportunity to live with a cursed lord in her fathers place Maribel looks forward to getting away from the demands and unappreciative nature of her sister. She falls in love with Damon but has to figure out how to be happy when her new love and her sister hate one another. I think Corinne was a really bad person and really the only evidence we have to the contrary is her stating that she's not a bad person....usually directly after she has done something awful. As for Maribel you can love your sister and still understand that she can be a bad person. Her whole "no one is bad" attitude was really irritating. Damon was ok. But overall, just meh. The Keepers (Alchemy #1) By Donna Augustine ***3 Stars Jo was abandoned as a baby and bounced around the foster system because she had some weird abilities that tended to freak potential parents out. One night at work, she sees something that she shouldn't and finds herself right in the middle of some interstellar conflict. Now all of the weird stuff she can do makes a little more sense but she still has a ton of questions. Cormac was her boss at the casino and is also a gatekeeper of sorts deciding who can travel to Earth and when. He asks Jo for help because it seems that someone is trying to sabotage his operation, which could have so explosive (literally) consequences. Jo isn't really sure what's going on most of the time but she fakes it really well and just kinda rolls with the punches. Overall this was pretty good. Some of the alchemy stuff went a little over my head at times but I appreciated the originality. I thought Jo was really stubborn but she had a pretty good reason to be and I liked her sass. Cormac was a little girl crazy which I found odd considering his age. I thought it weird that Lacey went from thinking Cormac was creepy to being another of his harem. There is a lot that isn't explained but I liked this enough to see what the next book reveals. ...more |

Walk on the Striped Side (Big Bad Bite #2) by Jessie Lane **2 Stars Elena's mother taught her that men are incapable of feeling love and she was able to keep all of them at arms length until she met Gage. Gage is a tiger shifter and scents Elena as a possible mate but has to let her go when he falls in love with her because as a human she is frail and has a much shorter life span. Instead of just breaking up with her, he makes sure he overhears her demeaning her to his brother and generally acting like a real tool. She left him but finds herself back on his radar when she discovers that she is part of the family business, an Amazon private investigating group. When Gage realizes she isn't human (though she still has that pesky short life span) he is determined to make her see that he is sorry and they belong together. So of course he handcuffs her to him until she gives in. The overall story was ok and the first third or so, I really enjoyed. But there were a few things that just grated on me. The first is the arguing and fighting among all the siblings...I feel like there is a huge difference between good natured ribbing and just going out of your way to be a jerk for the sole purpose of making someone feel bad. That is not amusing to me. Then there is when Gage has to go on a super dangerous mission and takes Elena with him because she is trained very well and has some extra Amazon mojo....my problem is that instead of giving her weapons that she is highly trained on he gives her a flame thrower that she has never used. Just made no sense and was just over the top. But the absolute worst is that Gage mates with her when she is drunk and not in her right mind and on top of that doesn't use a condom when he knows she can get pregnant. There is just nothing that makes that kind of manipulation ok, that isn't love. 2. Alpha Wolf Rising by Eliza Gayle *1 Star Sierra is set to become the alpha of her pack. In a black moon sex ritual she is going to officially mate her lover Marek. They both feel a little bit bad having to leave Sierra's other lover, human protector Nathan, put of the festivities. There is an attack and she finds that her old lover from college is behind it. He is somewhere in between a human and a wolf and wants her to help him. Having a human lover and a transforming human, Sierra has lost a lot of support from the pack and has to figure out a way to make it right. I did not enjoy this one. I don't think Sierra had any business being in charge of anyone, she really only wanted to have sex with the 3 guys. And when it came down to actually making decisions it was Marek and Nathan who had all of the brain power. 3. London Howl by H.M. McQueen Not Interested Famous model who happens to be a shifter hires a spunky, curvy woman to pretend to be his girlfriend through the next few months. The girl in question has been obsessed with said model for years and is taking this opportunity to try and hook up with him. I'm sure there is more to this but I didn't have a lot of interest after reading the blurb and 2 chapters in I just wanted to move on. 4. Dragon's Honor (Paranormal Protection Agency #6) by Mina Carter *1 Star Baron and Duke are orphaned twin shadow dragon shifters who work for the Paranormal Protection Agency. Honor is the daughter of the owner of Croft Industries. They have been assigned to be her bodyguards while trying to see if her father is involved in para slaving. Baron recognizes Honor as his mate so he takes the attacks against her pretty personally. This was a rare Mina Carter miss for me. I usually love her short sexy stories because they have good characters and fun twists...except for this one. I love when a heroine is tough and can take care of herself but I felt that Honor wasn't smart about it, she was all I'm tough I don't need a man to save me and then has a breakdown when she kills to defend her own life. Settle down if you can't handle it Rambo. My next issue was with the communication...they both decide to give in to their attraction and Baron gives her several opportunities to change her mind but never tells her what he is or what she is to him. Those are important tidbits as far as I'm concerned. And then our heroine eavesdrops and jumps to completely wrong conclusion and then has a temper tantrum, runs away from her protectors despite the huge army of paranormal creatures that just attacked her home. 5. Bearly Hanging On (Laid Bear #3) by Marina Maddix *1 DNF Star After reading one chapter from Chet's judgmental, self absorbed point of view I decided to not continue. 6. Her Shifter Secret by Flora Dare ***3 Stars Danae's husband and daughter are killed in an accident that the whole town blames on her. She asks the sea goddess to help her forget so she can move on, as an answer she receives Liam...a selkie who no longer has his skin. They have to live together until they both open themselves completely to the other. As this happens they grow to care about each other and discover some disturbing facts about the car accident. This was ok. I would have liked to know a bit more about the veil and the fae and all that good stuff. But Danae and Liam were both likeable and overall I liked the story. 7. Maria & the Angel (Story 7) by Jordan K. Rose Not Interested I'm sure this is fine, I just don't enjoy the idea of reincarnation. 8. Mate for a Month (Shifters of Silver Peak #2) by Georgette St. Clair ****4 Stars Eileen is spoiled, well kinda she's really not that bad, but she comes from a rich family of shifters who don't allow her to do anything for herself even when she wants to. Marcus is an emotionally damaged shifter who is in danger of being detained by the shifter council because all signs point to him going feral. Fate brings them together and throws them into a mutually beneficial and temporary mating. They find they are more compatible than they originally thought and want to see if they can actually make it work in the long term. The title of this turned me off a little but I'm really glad I gave it a chance. I thought Marcus and Eileen were great and I thought the story was interesting. I really enjoyed this author and will look for more work from her. 9. Werewolf Wedding by Lynn Red Not Interested A guy goes to get a statue of himself made...just not for me. 10. Fast and the Furriest (Tiger Tails #1) by Celia Kyle Not Interested Having to pull a tiger shifter's tail to complete the mating process is just a little too silly...even for me. ...more |

Moon Magic by Harmony Raines ***3 Stars -A bonus scene to Soul of the Dragon This was actually pretty cute...as cute as a coupe meeting up for ritualistic sex in order to conceive a child can be anyway. The characters seemed genuine in their love and it interested me to maybe pickup the first book in this series. 2. A Very Close Shave by Anna Lowe No Stars -Wolves of Twin Moon Ranch So basically a selfish alpha blows off his brother to have sex with his mate. Not really someone that I care to read any more about. 3. Finding His Dragon by Elianne Adams *1 Star -Part of the Dragon Blood series So this is kinda like a little teaser for the full length novel. It was ok, pretty sexy but as likeable as Jace seemed to be, Charlotte just seemed the opposite. I get she had a lot going on with being sold into marriage but something bad happening to you doesn't give you the right to turn around and treat someone else poorly. 4. Motivation by Elle Thorne ****4 Stars -Part of the Shifters Forever After series Fioana dumped Jonah, her mate, because of reasons that are not shared in this story. Jonah's bear is gone and he is lying to his family for other unknown reasons. Despite the lack of information on that front them being forced back together for a supernatural FBI type group is very intriguing. I definitely want to read further. 5. Coffee Date by Ellis Leigh ***3 Stars Part of the Feral Breed series Rebel/Abraham is trying to give his mate Charlotte time to get used to their bond because she is a human. Charlotte enjoys the bond but also wants a human type of relationship that involves talking and getting to know each other. This was very sexy and pretty cute, I don't know if I will look into this series because I'm just not into MC stories. 6. Black Supper by JC Andrijeski **2 Stars -From the Quentin Black Mystery series So Quentin and Miri are Seer's who are bonding which means getting lost in like 2 weeks of sex where you can hardly think about anything else. So in the midst of this they go out to dinner for some reason. This was a little weird, not knowing anything else it just didn't flow with them going out. And Quentin seemed like he was kinda whiny. 7. Snowed In by Sloane Meyers **2 Stars -From Bearing the Frozen Night Ryker and Kenzie had met, mated, had a few kids and are disgustingly happy...now they're on vacation. Avalanche? No big deal, Ryker turns into his polar bear then they go back to their room for sexy time. This was fine just kinda meh. 8. Between the Boxes by Kallysten *1 Star -Part of the Out of the Box series Virginia and vampire Anando are about to move in together. Their schedules are tight so they meet at a club regularly. Anando gets jealous of an old boyfriend of Virginia's and overcompensates in their dancing to prove his claim on her...or whatever. This one just had no oomph. 9. Wolf's Heart by Anne Marsh ***3 Stars -Part of the Bayou Wolves series Keelie Sue is promised to a member of a rival pack/MC by her abusive father. She expects Jace to be of the same breed but he seems kinder and more considerate of her than any of the wolves she's known in her life. This was actually a good read, I'm not sure if I will look into the series though as I am just not into the whole MC thing. 10. Wild Wolf by Michele Bardsley *1 Star -Part of the Lone Wolf series Sierra leaves her pack because it didn't work out with her desired mate. She is now staying with her grandmother at a haunted tourist attraction. She ends up having an erotic dream about the man in the paintings in the attic...Meh 11. Reclaiming the Dragon by Vivienne Savage *1 Star -Part of the Loved by the Dragon series Chloe has been mated to dragon shifter Saul for years and thinks he may be losing interest as he has not been home very much in the last few weeks. And since he didn't explain to her why he hasn't been around I feel that she has every right to question what is going on. And when he sends their daughter to Disney with his mother without consulting Chloe I would have flipped. So I didn't find this very romantic at all. 12. Ghost of Shifters Past by Tasha Black *1 Star -A Tarker's Hollow Story Bonnie is with a new pack but is still lonely. She chases some shadows to a deserted amphitheater and then has dreams of someone she believes to be her mate. Another meh for me. 13. Before the Hunt by JM Klaire **2 Stars -Prequel to the Alpha Hunted Series Sandra is looking for a rich husband and Naythan is going to help her find one without giving in to his wolf's desire to mate Sandra. This was sexy but neither character really seemed likeable or interesting enough to read further. 14. Date Night by Cristina Rayne *1 Star -Claimed by the Elven King bonus scene This was another dud for me. Sethian takes Emily back to where he stalked her and then had her kidnapped from. I read part one of the original story and it also bothered me that her appearance was completely changed when he kidnapped her. He made her into a complately different person and her response is, well it was a long time ago. 15. Burn, Baby, Burn by Catherine Vale ***3 Stars -Excerpt Dragon shifter Adalyn suddenly loses her ability to fly. She is drinking away her problems and goes home with the human. They have some sexy times and she sneaks out of his apartment the next day trying to figure out her next move. This was ok, short and sexy. 16. Red Alert by Tina Moss ***3 Stars -Part of the Paranormal Crimes Division series Shifter Jame and vampire Drake are on a case together but there is a lot of tension between them. Jame fights her attraction but Drake makes no secret of his desires. This seemed pretty interesting and I think I might try this series. 17. Hunted & Seduced by Shelley Munro No Stars -Part of the House of Cat series So basically they crash land and are stuck wherever they are , injured. The conversation while they were having sex was just silly, but not in a good way. If it wasn't so short I would have just stopped reading. 18. Shelter Me by Kristen Strassel *1 Star -Part of the Sawtooth Shifters series Meh, this was weird. They both repeated the same sentence like 3 times before they moved on from a discussion point. That made it really difficult to get into this one. ...more |

Secrets (The Guardian Trilogy #1) by Liz Schulte *1 DNF Star Olivia is some sort of magnet for Jinn (Demons) and Guardians (Angels). Before she knows about any of those things she starts to fall in love with Holden, who she later finds out is a Jinn and should have killed her. Holden becomes obsessed with Olivia and begins following her everywhere. As people around her begin to die she is shocked to learn that her destiny belongs to one of these groups even though she's in love with someone on the other side. You are told that Holden and Olivia fall in love but there is zero feeling from either of them. They are also 2 of the most unlikeable characters I've read which was a combination that I gave up on halfway through. 2. Stronger Than Magic (House of Xannon #1) by Melinda Vanlone ***3 Stars Tarian is the Scion and next in line for the Dolphin throne, she of course doesn't appreciate the lack of freedom her position brings her. While out on a tracking mission she is attacked by a lizard creature and things just get worse. Apparently he is siphoning her power and will gain control of her unless she is able to get the part of his claw he left in her neck out. Tarian occasionally accepts help from her sister, best friends and mysterious new friend Daric...but mostly she does things on her own flying by the seat of her pants. Usually this really bothers me, and it does in this case...but sometimes I don't even blame her for getting annoyed and doing things her way. Every time she seeks guidance from her mother o archivists, all she is given are riddles and then anger directed at her when she makes decisions based on the limited information that she has. But there were other issues.... -I'm not sure why the author repeated things so many times, I didn't need to hear about Alex's Latino passion every time he was around. And Alex referring to her as Chica constantly was just irritating and not endearing. -The whole ritual of sleeping with a bunch of men to get the best mix for her baby, but why? why can't there be one father, or why can't she have a boyfriend after the baby is conceived. And if there is this whole ritual for the next heir then what went on to create Tarian's sister? There were just things about the Society that wasn't explained and then didn't really make any sense. Those being stated, I actually wanted to know more. There is a pretty good story here and I would have liked more of it. 3. Hanna, Hanna, One and Two by Myndi Shafer **2 Stars So there is a device that resets time, but every time it is used things are a little worse than they were before. The current president wants to use it to make herself immortal and more powerful than she is now. Johanna wants to use it because she is the Verus and if she uses the device it will be a full restart and put the world back without all the problems of later resets...I think. If she does this though she will cease to exist. Others are able to remember the past worlds...because they were touching someone during the reset? or something like that...and some of her brothers friends want to help her achieve her goal. The writing was ok in this, which is why I finished it. It flowed well and moved quickly. But there just wasn't enough story. Who are the Navaganti and why do they know about the machine? What the heck is the machine all about and why does it make the user immortal? Why does everyone think Johanna will cease to exist? My other 2 problems were silly but they just bothered me 1. Nat gave Johanna a puppy, he didn't tell her that the dog already had a name and didn't acknowledge that she had named her companion. I know it's silly but I just thought that was kind of mean. and 2. The circumstances that led to Johanna speaking to Haier for the first time just didn't jive....she can stand months of torture but not being shown a picture that I felt she should have understood the significance of way sooner? Overall just kind of a meh for me. 4. Sweet Magic Song (For Love of Fae #1) by Olivia Hardin Not Interested I gave this 5 chapters and couldn't bring myself to go any further. Roon was a pathetic excuse for a male who got annoyed when he saw women with other men because then he couldn't use them to forget about the fact that he's in love with his best friend. Which is fine, except I don't care to be in his head at all. And Belle was just a selfish bitch who was stringing along a bunch of innocent children because she wanted them around not because they would be safer or happier wherever she was going. Maybe their characters turn around but I don't care to find out. 5. Give Me (Wyrd & Fae #1) by L.K. Rigel ***3 Stars Lilith is drawn to Dumnos after her boyfriend dumps her. Once their she is immediately and seemingly unnaturally attracted to Cade the resident Lord. They soon find out that their attraction is not only their own but that of two ghosts who were torn apart in life and stuck longing for each other for a thousand years or so. Oh and then there is the crazy wyrd (witch) lady who wants to take over Lillith's body s she can keep living, the same woman who caused the problems in the first place. This was ok, a semi complicated story the shifts time periods and POV's fairly often. I do think it came together fairly nicely but I just didn't love it. 6. Undeniable (The Serendipity Duet #1) by Tawdra Kandle *1 DNF Star Rafe leaves his hometown to get away from the memory of the girl he loves that doesn't love him back. So he starts to travel around and ends up in New Orleans. There he meets Jocelyn, they sleep together and then she admits she works for a company that has been watching him his whole life and they want him to work for them. He is not even that perturbed by this because Joss is pretty hot. I read 5 chapters and felt like both of these characters were complete sleaze balls and I didn't care to read a story about either of them. 7. Divine Destiny (Divine Chronicles #1) by JoAnna Grace **2 Stars Ryse is a Thracian (warrior) and Deity (linked t0 the gods) and generally an all around badass. Avery is a Grace, more specifically Ryse's Grace, the woman the gods created especially for him. As much as Ryse and his men adore her there are those out there who very clearly want her dead, hence a bunch of attacks surrounding Avery. That's the basic gist of it, but the story is complicated with many different characters that all seem to play a major role and even get there own POV's. For me, that took away from Ryse and Avery's story because there were so many other things going on. That being said, I thought that doing things this way may have been needed because Ryse and Avery were not exactly dynamic. We are told that Avery is fiery and charming but it seems the only reasons are because she often has a bad attitude (like a 2 year old) and she has a southern accent. Ryse was a little better but their weird declarations of undying love after knowing each other for like a day just didn't seem very sincere. 8. Forever Fae (Forever Fae #1) by L.P. Dover **2 Stars (PR) The actual idea behind this story was really good. I loved the idea of the Fall and Summer Court children branching out into other courts. I liked the dark sorcerer plotting his revenge against the Fae, and I even liked most of the characters. My big problem was the dialogue...it seemed like it was a lot of cursing and vulgarity just for the sake of it and either didn't keep with the characters personality or it just really detracted from the story. I had to skim through some pages just to get through some of the weird and awkward conversations. 9. Enlightened (Love & Light #1) by Melissa Lummis ***3 Stars (PR) This one started really strong. Loti's grieving over her husbands death was very relatable and I thought she was a good character. When Wolf came into things I didn't mind him either but even having the multiple POV's didn't really make me feel their connection. And the middle kind of lost me with all the chakra and prana talk. And by the end I was a little confused by all the metaphysical stuff and I thought the end was a little rushed. That being said I did enjoy it overall and I'm considering giving this series a chance. 10. The Charmer (Darklands #1) by Autumn Dawn *1 Star So the idea is that a race of people who shift into wolf type creatures called the Haunt split from the human race and created their own world. Wiley was apparently lost from this new world and ended up in a human orphanage where she met Jasmine and they became lifelong friends. When Jasmine goes to meet Wiley on a camping trip she finds her gone and herself being kidnapped by a strange man and a pack of wolf like creatures. Jasmine is determined to get out of this new world and take Wiley with her but it turns out she is a Charmer, a female who makes male Haunts all googly eyed over her, and she is watched very closely by Keilor, the head Haunt. Eventually the girls decide they want to stay, and a new problem arises of traitors and people who want to steal Jasmine's Charmer pheromones and/or want her dead. And a whole other section regarding a group of humans who attach themselves to symbiotes and are able to live longer and stuff. There was just waaaaay too much to this, I thought the book could have done with several less elements and just focusing on just a couple things at a time. About halfway through my head was spinning at all of the new storylines. My biggest problem, and reason for the 1 star is the "relationship between Jasmine and Keilor. Keilor was going to kill her when he realized she was a Charmer but then thought it was better to try and mate with her so her pheromones would calm down or something. When he discovers her trying to find a way back to her home world he sexually molests her as a punishment. He does this on several occasions, and is constantly threatening her with more abuse when she does not act the way he wants. That's pretty awful but even worse was the Jasmine and Wiley were not bothered by this behavior at all. Just because they were both attracted to each other doesn't give him the right to do anything to her without her consent despite what his sense of smell tells him. 11. Taming the Wolf (Anna Avery #1) by Stephanie Nelson ****4 Stars Anna is attacked and is turned into a werewolf. She leaves her old life behind and joins the Everwood pack. She clings to her humanity while getting used to the urges of her wolf. While fighting her feelings for her already mated alpha and figuring out if she could be happy with nice guy Sawyer, she is understandably stressed. When humans start dying and she becomes the prime suspect, well things get even worse. Anna doesn't believe she would kill anyone but her vivid dreams have her questioning if maybe she is guilty. I actually loved this. I thought Anna was a great character who didn't take the easy path and stuck to her guns. I got attached to Anna, Adam, Sawyer and Elle and felt all of the tension going around the pack. I maybe would have like a little more werewolf information but overall this was very enjoyable. ...more |

1. Devour (Devoured 1) by Shelly Crane **2 Stars Clara seemingly has a great life, despite her parents being killed she is taken care of by a great fa 1. Devour (Devoured 1) by Shelly Crane **2 Stars Clara seemingly has a great life, despite her parents being killed she is taken care of by a great family, has the perfect high school boyfriend and all that good stuff. She doesn't realize that she is actually very unhappy with her life until Eli shows up. New guy in town immediately shows an intense interest in Clara. Eventually she sees how crappy her whole life actually is but then she finds out Eli isn't as perfect as he seems. So now Clara has to deal with her new social standing in school, and a supernatural boyfriend whose family will not be so thrilled about her being in the picture. This had an interesting premise with the Devourers being creatures that can create fear in human beings in order to feed off of them....but that's basically all the information you get. You know that they are mean and consider any sort of kindness to humans to be an act of betrayal. But no real origins or why. Clara just seemed like someone who needed a guide and went in whatever direction that person would take her. Mostly though, the story just fell flat for me 2. Elsker (Elsker Saga 1) by ST Bende ****4 Stars (PR) Kristia takes a chance and decides to study abroad in England. There she meets the mysterious Ull and is immediately drawn to him. She soon realizes there is something a little strange about him and when she finds out he's a Norse God she takes it amazingly well. Really the only problem these two have is that they are both worried about the other in regards to Ragnarok (the Norse Armageddon). This was a very fun read with likeable characters. Kristia was sweet and level headed, Ull is the protective but loving male and they both have great friends. I read this in the Gods and Mortals bundle and I'm glad I did because I don't think I would have read it otherwise. 3. Everblue (Mer Tales 1) by Brenda Pandos ***3 Stars (RR) Ashlyn and her best friend Tatchi (Tatiana) are planning to go to college together despite Tachi's super strict family. What Ash doesn't know is that Tachi's family, including twin brother Fin who Ash has a crush on, are actually Mer people, maids and...men? (I can't remember what they called the men). The twins and teir family are called back under the sea and don't immediately return which leaves Ashlyn confused, worried and hurt. When Ash falls in the freezing lake Fin saves her but uses some of his Mer powers and now they are bound to one another...which is good because they liked each other anyway but bad because they are different species and things aren't exactly safe for Fin's family at the moment. 4. From Gods (Descendent Prophecies 1) by Mary Ting *1 Star (PR) The dialogue in this just kept making me cringe, I had to stop. And Skylar was a pretentious haughty bitatch who thinks way too highly of herself. 5. Guardians: The Girl by Lola St Vil *1 Star (PR) Ok Emmy was ridiculously annoying. Marcus was way too worried about his love life when he is on an end of the world mission. Mimi is made out to be this cold person who's only concern is the mission, but if that were the case she wouldn't be all crazy jealous all the time. Miku was ok, Jay and Reese were ok but they're slang talk was way over the top. Rio was actually pretty awesome and the book should have revolved around him. But it didn't and I just wasn't a fan of this one. 6. History of Fire (Dark Faerie Tale 5) by Alexia Purdy Not Interested Just could not get into this one. I didn't like the writing and the main character head was like a six year old in a man's body...so annoying and then creepy at times. 7. Inescapable (Premonition 1) by Amy Bartol **2 Stars So Evie was raised by her young uncle after her mother died because she never knew her father. She is off to college and things start getting weird when a guy, who happens to be insanely hot, seems to hate her and tells her she needs to leave school. After an incident where another love interest, Russel, is brain warped by main hot guy, Reed, Evie tasers Reed and runs away. Apparently this is totally fine because although they are slightly perturbed Russell and Evie are otherwise ok with the situation. Especially Evie who trusts Reed...because she's attracted to him. Eventually Evie finds out Reed,s super secret secret and finds out that she's the most special but that also puts her and anyone she knows in danger. So I get that Reed is hot but that's kinda all he has going for him...he's mean and aloof most of the time, so why is she so crazy about him?? Oh wait, I forgot that he's really hot. In one scene they are discussing whether or not Reed is going to murder Evie (and it's apparently a strong possibility) and all she can think is "I am trying to stay alert and not get drawn in by his sexy façade". I also couldn't stand the language used by just about every character. The word sketchy was used on way too many occasions and here are just a few words that I think were supposed to be a positive response to a question...phat, stylin, fierce and gnar (as in gnarly I think). There was a reasonably good twist at the end which led to the 2 stars instead of one but besides that, this book fell very short for me. 8. The Forgotten Ones (Danaan Trilogy 1) by Laura Howard ***3 Stars (PR) Allison is pulled into the world of the Tuatha de Danaan when her long lost father shows up and her mother disappears. I liked Allison's character I liked that despite her inner turmoil she was able to keep a relatively cool head and do what she thought was right. Ethan, her human love interest seems like a sweet enough guy when he's with Allison but every time he is not within a few feet of her he is with some other girl. That's not something I judge people for but the sweet side of him just seemed too good to be true because of that behavior so I didn't really like him at all. My other problem was that I feel like there was a lot of rushed information so it was a little hard to follow....like who is who and who hates who and so on. But it was definitely a good read and I will probably read the next. 9. The Gatekeeper's Sons by Eva Pohler **2 Stars (PR) I think my issue is that I feel like 15 years old is still a child and so the fact that Hypnos and Thanotos were all about Therese just creeped me out. 10. A Matter of Fate (Fate 1) by Heather Lyons *1 Star Chloe is a Magical, a creator to be exact. Her future has already been decided, she will finish high school on the human plane, then go to Annar (Magicals home base) where she will train and eventually join the council. Her parents are jerks who don't pay much mind to her and don't give her pertinent information about the world she will soon be joining. She has always struggled with the fact that she has no choices and with her role as creator/destroyer...This is what I liked most about Chloe, she went along with it but challenged it every chance she got. Another constant in Chloe's life were dreams she was having about a boy named Jonah since she was about 4. He disappears from her dreams only to show up at her school with a twin brother. She is terrified that she's going crazy and even if she isn't she doesn't feel she could handle him disappearing from her life again. So she does what anyone would do (right) and starts dating his twin brother Kellan. Meanwhile, there is a group of shadow creatures killing Magicals who are now after Chloe. I generally enjoy a good love triangle but I didn't feel that that was what was happening here. When Chloe was with Kellan she was SURE that it was right and she was so in love and really only thought about Jonah if she saw him or he came up in conversation. And she did the same thing when she was with Jonah, all thoughts of anything or anyone else disappeared. I thought Jonah was a wimp for not saying anything to Chloe earlier, I thought Chloe was a bitch for not telling Kellan about her past with Jonah, and if anything Kellan was too loyal to the two of them. As far as I'm concerned Chloe and Jonah deserve each other...and not in a good way. My biggest problem with this book, however, was when Chloe catches Jonah (her Connection and end all, be all love) making out with his ex girlfriend. Obviously she flies off the handle, but who can blame her? I certainly didn't but basically everyone else did. Oh Chloe how can you not talk to him? How can you upset him like this? Oh and then the ex coming to her to explain that it was just one last kiss...umm no. That was completely unforgivable and it genuinely bothered me how Chloe just accepted that her feelings were wrong and she needed to dutifully forgive Jonah because Fate and all that. 11. Catalyst (Tethered 1) by Jennifer Snyder **2 Stars Addison is adopted but is mysteriously left a house upon the death of her biological mother. Instead of just selling it like her adoptive mother would like (because that's really supportive) she decides to spend the summer in the tiny town where it is located. Her first day there she is told by several people that she is not wanted there and other cryptic things. She also meets Kace, who is hot and kisses her to show her she is magical...just like him and his 2 friends. And in spite of the fact that she has never heard of any of this before and Kace's friend is a complete jackass, she seems pretty ok with everything. It seems like everyone wants something from her the family who has been supplementing everyone's magic wants her to go so she doesn't mess up their business, Kace and his friends want her to stay so she can balance out their magic and there is some demon like creature that seems to want to take her power. The idea behind this held a lot of potential but it did not come together for me. I didn't feel Addison had a strong enough voice, I thought Kace went zero to sleaze really quickly and I would have just liked more magic talk to pull everything together. 12. Darkness of Light (Darkness 1) by Stacey Marie Brown **2 Stars Ember and her step father have moved around a bit since her mother was murdered....mostly because when Ember gets upset things have a tendency to explode. In her new school her strange eyes and hair make her a target of students and authority figures alike. After a particularly bad fire at a school dance the sherriff and principle suggest she be sent to a school for troubled kids. There, she meets Eli who is treats her badly, sexually harasses and intimidates her, speaks to her like she's a moron and generally stares at her hatefully...but he's like totally hot so who cares about all that other stuff. He has mere moments of ever treating her in a way that suggests he may have normal human social tendencies and Ember clings to these moments instead of all of the other behavior. Instead of acknowledging all of the things going on with her and trying to figure them out she goes into a dangerous biker bar just wanting to be close to Eli. And without giving spoilers, her decision at the end of the book just solidified my dislike of her. I wish there was more about the Fae part of the storyline because it did seem to be an interesting take but there wasn't enough of it to be sure. 13. First (Crescent Chronicles 4.1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy ***3 Stars (PR) I love the Crescent Chronicles and enjoyed reading a bit of "Flight" from Levi's POV...even though it made him seem like more of a jerk than I thought he was. 14. Freak of Nature (IFICS 1) by Julia Crane *1 DNF Star Kaitlyn donated her body to science and after a fatal attack she was turned into a Cyborg. Lucas is one of the scientists who worked on this project but is constantly taken with how attractive she is and he often checks her facebook page to see what she was like before he helped take away all feeling and emotion from her. They form an attachment to one another and eventually fall in love. At the last minute before she is sold to the government Lucas helps her escape. She runs into a lot of bad people in her day or so away from the compound and decides she wants to be a vigilant crime fighter. Or something like that, I gave up at this point. There were just soooo many things that I rolled my eyes at.... -hey guys we've all been really stressed lately, let's go play paintball with our cyborg killing machine -And Lucas suddenly having a conscience about a physical relationship with the cyborg he helped create...just weird and creepy. When she remembers she's not a virgin then game on -And when she runs into her ex boyfriend he is married....at 21...and his child wife seems totally ok that he is hung up on his murdered ex girlfriend (Quess didn't check his relationships status on FB??) Just so much that didn't make sense and besides that the relationship was super creepy and didn't give off any romantic feels. 15. Lark by Erica Cope ***3 Stars (PR) Mia is a normal girl and she is pretty happy about it...so of course her quiet life is disrupted that she is the half-blood princess of the light elves ...oh, and she is most likely part of a prophecy that could lead to lots of trouble for both the elves and humans...I really enjoyed reading this book. Mia was a fun character and I enjoyed her inner monologues and I thought the story overall was pretty good. I don't like that she randomly did some very stupid things that were so obviously going to go horribly wrong, but I suppose they did move the story along. I would have liked a little more explanation of certain things....it seemed like a lot of things just happened without a whole lot of reasoning or development. But as I said, overall this was a quick and Fun read and I look forward to seeing what happens next. 16. Promise (Soul Savers 1) by Kristie Cook *1 Star (PR) Alexis and Tristan are on opposite sides of a battle between heaven and hell but are also destined to create a powerful child. Thankfully, Tristan meets her under false pretenses and they fall in love while Alexis has no idea about who or what either of them are. This is a big step for Alexis because of her trust issues stemming from one of her mom's boyfriends not sticking around when she was five...how could someone get over that. The bad guys do not want their union to happen, they want Tristan back on their side so there are some fights and explosions and stuff mixed into the incredibly uncomfortable love speak between Alexis and Tristan. I am a little surprised by the relatively high rating of this book. I did not enjoy it all. The development of the relationship with Tristan was mind numbingly boring and had not one ounce of feeling to it. And Alexis just had no life to her at all. I probably should mark this as DNF since I ended up skimming through most of it. 17. Redemption by RK Ryals ****4 Stars Dayton's parents are in a fatal car accident when she is 10 years old. She is sent to an abbey to live with her religious zealot aunt along with her sister. While her sister grows into the perfect copy of her aunt, Dayton rebels against the strict Order to maintain her identity. As her birthday approaches her wiccan friends warn her of danger coming and her aunts reprimands become more eerie. Next thing she knows she is offered up as a sacrifice to a demon and bound to him. Which puts her at the center of the war between Heaven and Hell and a whole bunch of people now want her dead. Marcas, her very attractive unwillingly bound demon takes her across the world to attempt to get them unbound from one another. She also has her best friend Monroe, the Wiccan and her other best friend Connor, her protector and gargoyle, along for the ride. I honestly loved this. There was definitely a lot going on but I felt Dayton was a strong enough main character that everything kind of moved along and eventually tied together fairly nicely. I liked that things didn't drag on without you knowing anything, one thing after another was revealed until you got the full picture... I prefer this approach to the knowing nothing and then BAM here is everything that has been going on. I will definitely continue this series. 18. Return of the Ascendant by Raine Thomas ****4 Stars (PR) Kyra is a regular college student until her life is in danger and her identity as a being from another planet is revealed to her. She is having difficulty remembering anything but is told she is the Ascendant and is supposed to bring peace. However, when she returns things seem strange to her and even Ty, her protector, senses that things are off. Not knowing who to trust and having to hide their feelings for each other leads to some difficult decisions. I really liked this one...the development of Kyra and Ty's relationship while the slow reveal of their past interactions was very moving. I was very emotionally tied to this story which was great and excruciating at the same time. 19. Rivers Recruit (Sanctuary 1) by Charlotte Abel *1 DNF Star This was very meh for me. The story for the most part turned me off with the whole multiple mates, concubines and the rampant use of the word whore. The characters were not particularly endearing and I just couldn't get into it. 20. Runes by Ednah Walters **2 Stars (PR) So a new hot guy moves next door to Raine, but she tries not to care because she is in love with her best friend Eirick. Some new kids show up and Raine can see glowing runes on their skin...then there's talk of immortals and Norse Gods and such. I got about 75%through and stopped, not because the story was bad (I actually kind of liked it) but because of Raine. She had a good guy that she was in love with forever and they finally got together but oh wait there's a really hot guy paying attention to me now I'm confused. I do not like cheating, especially when I'm supposed to believe the person doing the cheating is sweet and innocent. I just didn't care about how anything turned out for her. ...more |

Alex Finch: Monster Hunter (Monster Files 1) by Cate Dean ***3 Stars Alex Finch is a tomboy who loves computers. When she is paired up with ditzy cheerleader Misty for a project events lead them to being attacked by a werewolf. Thankfully they are saved by Sam, the boy Alex has had a crush on forever. Alex can't let go of the fact that werewolves are real and is soon is sucked into the secrets that Sam's family has kept for years. So Sam, Alex and their ragtag band of monster hunters set out to save the town from a supernatural threat. This was cute...that's the most appropriate word I think. I liked that Alex was an uber geek but also tough, she thought rationally but also couldn't stand by with her friends in danger. But I also had a good amount of issues.... -I thought it was weird how much danger Alex's father allowed her to be in -I never caught how old Alex is, she mentions Sam is 18 and older than her cuz she skipped a few grades which seems to me like she might be too young -Everyone was a little too accepting of the monsters that lived in their town and way too eager to put themselves in danger -then there was the 8 year old Hyatt girl who spoke like she was 42 -and finally a strong overuse of endearments and nicknames 2. A Brush with the Moon (Foxblood 1) by Raquel Lyon **2 Stars I thought the story overall had potential but the writing and just overabundance of characters didn't do it any favors. But I think one small scene is a good example of what I didn't like about this one...Sophie receives a bouquet of flowers... "It was far too ostentatious for my taste, so whoever sent it obviously doesn't know me at all. I would have preferred a bunch of daisies or poppies picked from the fields." My interpretation was that this statement was made by a self absorbed, pretentious biatch who thinks herself better than those around her. She adamantly said she didn't want the distraction of men in her life so it wasn't like anyone really knew her besides her roommate...so how could she expect anyone to know her well enough to send her the "right" type of flowers. Also, no one needs to send you anything, generally people accept these kinds of things graciously because someone went out of their way to think of you that day. If the advances are unwelcome that's one thing, but her attitude left a lot to be desired. I know this was one little scene and didn't matter much to the story in general, but I just found it to be a good example of what kind of person Sophie is and why I didn't care for this one. 3. Halloween Magic & Mayhem (Magic & Mayhem 1) by Stella Wilkinson *1 Star I didn't really like this one. Emily finds out she is going to turn into a witch at midnight. Being the daughter and granddaughter of witches and being born on Halloween menas she has to be extra careful because she will probably be powerful and Halloween is a magical day anyway. So with all of that you would think her aunt would have given her a little more warning than a few hours. Also, I just can't stand how dimwitted Emily was about trying to cast a spell on her own, I get she is 16 and immature but I just couldn't stop my eye rolls. 4. The Wrong Girl (1st Freak House 1) by C.J. Archer **2 Stars Hannah has narcolepsy and is also the companion to the pyro kinetic daughter of an earl. Until the day she is kidnapped and she finds out that she isn't who or what she always thought. Well sort of, she never actually gets many answers...at all, therefore you as the reader get no answers. So really what was the point. None of the people who kidnapped her actually see anything wrong with it...and she begins to see nothing wrong with it either. Which I found to be the most disturbing part. Especially since the amount of things that people have lied about grows and Hannah just becomes more accepting. I didn't hate but I probably won't read on either. 5. Sound of Sirens (Tales of Skylge 1) by Jen Minkman **2 Stars This was...weird. Enna and her family live on an island that is terrorized by murdering sea creatures that lure people to their deaths. There are two separate classes on the island. The ruling class claim they protect the island with power from some saint coming to the island years ago...or something. And, for some reason that no one really seems to know, these two groups do not like each other. There is a rebel group that opposes the ruling group and have found alternate means for electricity. This was ok, just really confusing. You really don't get a lot of background or reasoning, and it wasn't quite fantasy and it was difficult to picture what kind of time period it was set in. 6. Deception (The Transformed 1) by Stacy Claflin *1 Star (PR) Alexis is overlooked because of her beautiful and talented younger sister. Lately light bulbs have been exploding when she gets angry and crows have started to follow her around. When she runs into her childhood best friend who had previously moved away (across town) she is suddenly going to a dance with Brookes cousin. When she gets up everyone is completely taken aback by how beautiful she looks all the while telling her that they already thought she was pretty (then why are you so shocked?) Then she meets her date, throws herself into his arms and tells him she missed him and he reply's the same. And she doesn't really think twice about it. The story didn't seem like it was so bad but the character interaction was just awkward and I couldn't deal with it. 7. Wings of Shadow (The Underground 1) by Anna Kyss **2 Stars Meghan is basically kidnapped while traveling abroad before college by a boy named Kiernan. Turns out he is a dark faerie and needs to drink her blood to be able to live in the city with all of the iron and such. She is rescued and sent off to live with the light faeries who are also kind of jerks but in a very hippy way. There she meets Kiernan's twin brother Avery who, much like his brother becomes completely infatuated with Maghan. Eventually the light and dark faeries clash with these three in the middle of the conflict. This was an ok story but it didn't have any depth. Kiernan and Avery both liked Meghan and she liked both of them but there was no good reason and no feeling behind it. I thought the whole Darwin thing was a little out of place also. Mostly though, when Meghan escaped the underground after being imprisoned and someone drink her blood she decided to not contact her family or get on the next plane because....she still had to figure out college and stuff. Generally you have to be alive for college and stuff so you'd think that would be a good starting point. 8. Minor Gods (Summoners 1) by A.M. Yates ****4 Stars Josie has been training her whole life to become the Tribe's next Triune. When her mother is murdered the power skips over her and goes to her sister Josie who is totally unprepared. She struggles to find a place for herself, while only wanting justice for her mother. When it turns out she has a coveted power all of a sudden she becomes a target again. Thankfully, she has a few trustworthy friends in Simone, Kai and Beech and the help of her sisters boyfriend Judah. This book is an example of why I read these anthologies, I loved it. Josie is a great character who is stubborn and moody but has strong morals and truly wants what is best for everyone. I thought the world building was fascinating and I would have liked a little more details into the Tribe society. And then my other problem is a kind of SPOILER................................................................................................I found it odd who the fire guy ended up being. Someone who is so worried about truth and following the rules really put on a good act. I just don't know how I will feel about him going forward since he seems to have alternate personalities. ...more |

May *1 Star (PR) Rae goes to some crazy boarding school where you get tattoos and powers from them. There are people that hate her because of things that her father did. It was an ok idea for a story but I just hated the characters and everything they did. They all seemed to have odd priorities and morals. And a lot of the dialogue was just awkward. 2. Ignite (Midnight Fire 1) by Kaitlyn Davis ***3 Stars (PR) I've said this before...I have no problem with love triangles...that being said, this book didn't really have that going on. This was more about the romance between Tristan and Kira and the obstacles facing them as a couple. One of those obstacles being the society of conduits that fight vampires. They aren't super thrilled with Kira even existing so dating a vampire is an extra big no-no. The conduits are split on their views of how to deal with vampires, I thought that was interesting and added a nice layer to the vampires v. super-humans story....who's right and who's wrong and all that. I liked that the story moved quickly and didn't drag out and overall I enjoyed it but ....it just didn't get there for me. I didn't feel as strongly for the characters in the end as I probably should have. 3. Blur (Night Roamers 1) by Kristen Middleton **2 Stars (PR) Ok this was like a cross between twilight and the lost boys....which in theory sounds pretty good, but this was just so rushed. Characters were hardly developed, there was so much insta-love my head was spinning and a lot of the dialogue was pretty juvenile considering all of the adult situations. 4. Element (Natalie Vega Saga 1) by C.M. Doporto *1 Star (PR) Honestly, the main character was just a pretentious bitch who looked down on and judged the people around her. Not really someone I care to read about. 5. Eternal Vows by Chrissy Peebles ***3 Stars (PR) Sarah finds herself in a different world, literally when she is searching for her missing sister. She runs into an incredibly handsome and charming king that seems like he is a jerk but they have some steamy chemistry. I was really enjoying this and then Sarah inexplicable became too stupid to live...but thankfully the book ended with a cliffhanger at that point. 6. The Light Keepers (Shadowlight Saga .5) by Mande Matthews ****4 Stars (PR) Astrid is isolated with her mother and their protector Balin. She needs to learn to sing protections from the Shadow to protect herself. This is a struggle when she has never been able to utter a sound and she is drawn to the Shadowalk. One night she gives away their location and they must flee...Isla and Balin to safety and Astrid to the boy she knows as her protector. This was a quick read with a lot of story. I liked the characters even though I felt Isla was a bit harsh at times. I am very interested in continuing the series. ...more |

1. Destiny Begins (Twin Destinies Saga .5) by Cheryl Davis ***3 Stars Angelica has been forbidden by her family to even so much as look at Thomas and 1. Destiny Begins (Twin Destinies Saga .5) by Cheryl Davis ***3 Stars Angelica has been forbidden by her family to even so much as look at Thomas and his family gave him a similar rule. The two are drawn together and on a chance touch they find out they are mates. They keep it hidden to avoid the wrath of their families but things don' stay hidden forever. They find both support and hostility and have to be careful about who they trust. The first half was pretty good but the second half was just a rush of information and read more like an outline...with more detail to come later. You don't really find out what they actually are, what this whole prophecy business is about...or really anything that the story revolves around. So, for me, it just kind of fell flat. 2. Crush (Crush Saga 1) by Chrissy Peebles *1 Star (PR) Taylor moves to California and runs into the supernatural. Like literally, everywhere. Unbelievable situations, unreasonable reactions...This just didn't have a good story, or good characters, or good dialogue. 3. Vampire in Denial (Family Blood Ties 1) by Dale Mayer ***3 Stars (PR) I thought this book was petty strong. I read t as part of a bundle and have to admit that I wasn't really excited about this one after reading the blurb. However, I got into it right away and finished it pretty quickly. I liked Tessa's character overall, as a teenager who is kind of an outcast (especially in her own mind) she is pretty relatable. My biggest issue was with the second half of the book. I thought that things moved a little too quickly and it was kind of hard to follow where everyone was, who was with who. And I wish there was a more discernible bad guy. But I did enjoy it and will probably read the next in the series. 4. The Coin Collector by Kristen Middleton ***3Stars A short story about a boy who has to figure out a way to save his little brother from being taken by a leprechaun. Parts Leprechaun folklore mixed with a bit of rumplestiltskin. 5. Element (Natalie Vega Saga 1) by CM Doporto *1 Star (PR) Honestly, the main character was just a pretentious bitch who looked down on and judged the people around her. Not really someone I care to read about. 6. Kindred (1) by Erica Stevens ***3 Stars (ReRead) Cassie is a Hunter, specifically a hunter of vampires and she's not thrilled with all that comes with it....the guilt of killing, the much shortened life span and the weight of responsibility. Along comes Devon, a vampire passing through town that is immediately drawn to Cassie (as she is to him). They both ignore obvious signs of what the other is to stay in their blissfully ignorant world wrapped up in each other. But, all good things as they say, there is another vampire in town who doesn't have the sweet disposition of Devon. Despite the fact that they are young, inexperienced and will probably die, Cassie and her fellow Hunters decide to stay and fight. This was an ok story with ok characters...it just didn't draw me in and make me want to know more. 7. Radium Halo's by W.J. May **2 Stars (PR) A group of friends develops super senses after being trapped in a storm. Kind of generic and things happened exactly how you though they would. 8. Unseen by C.J. Pinard *1 Star This was a weird kind of Twilight story where Edward helps ghosts move on. 9. Treasured Secrets (Coveted Saga 1) by C.M. Owens *1 DNF Star This is one of those stories where the main characters life is in danger but no one tells her. So she runs around doing stupid stuff not knowing the extra dangers around her. Though, with Aria, she may have done them anyway. Aria was whiny and slightly bipolar...Tallis was kind of a big jerk playing at being the nice guy and everyone else was just superfluous and interchangeable. I just did not enjoy this a t all and gave up about halfway. 10. Awakening (Guardians 1) by Samantha Long *1 Star (PR) "Can you believe this? Demons? Lucifer?" This, coming from the shapeshifter who hangs out with a girl who can see the future, a girl who can heal with her hands, a girl who can turn invisible, a guy who can move things with his mind and a guy who can control fire. No, that's where he draws the line on weirdness. ...more |

Fledgling (Shapeshifter Chronicles #1) by Natasha Brown **2 DNF Stars This started off great, it was a sweet YA with nice characters and the slow buildup of something paranormal. Everything was going fine until Ana noticed what resembled Chance's necklace on a fox and decided to immediately accuse him of playing some horrible prank on her the whole time she knew him. This is the same guy who spent the entire day with her in a hospital while she had a procedure done. What kind of awful person wouldn't give someone like that the benefit of the doubt?! 2. Seventh Mark Part 1 by W.J. May ***3 Stars (PR) So this wasn't great, Rouge befriends Grace and Michael and it quickly becomes blatantly clear that strange things are going on. You get little tidbits but no real information. This was a quick read and didn't really have a cliff hanger so much as this is literally the first part of the story. I think I may continue this series. 3. Crush by Chrissy Peebles *1 DNF Star (PR) Taylor moves to California and runs into the supernatural. Like literally, everywhere. Unbelievable situations, unreasonable reactions...This just didn't have a good story, or good characters, or good dialogue. 4. Once Bitten (Alexa O'Brien Huntress #1) by Trina M. Lee *1 DNF Star Alexa is a werewolf who hunts down paranormal creatures who step out of line. She has to find out who is trying to frame her former lover and Alpha for murder before werewolves are exposed to the public. This was just really all over the place. You have the story line of her dealing with the feelings she still has for Raul even though he's a complete tool...the feelings she has for Shaz (which at first are made to seem like they are sibling like) but they are nothing like the metaphysical draw she has towards the vampire Arys. She finally ends up sleeping with the vampire and they have some sort of power exchange and they both go a little haywire. When she goes into her office for work she asks her boss about the werewolf who killed her family....out of nowhere!! Earlier in the book she made it seem like she tried not to think about it because she wasn't even sure what she would do with the information. Then there's the random run in with a demon, witches and power crystals...all sorts of stuff. But it had no flow and one chapter to the next were so different it seemed like they were out of order. 5. Venom by Kristen Middleton ***3 Stars (PR) Chelsey goes to the new nightclub in town to try and find out what happened to her cousin Melody. She does find her cousin but she also finds a bunch of vampires and werewolves. This was a short novella, I had a good amount of issues with this authors use of stereotypes without giving the characters any original voice. I think I gave it 3 stars because in comparison I enjoyed it a lot more that the last few I read from her. 6.Ignite by Kaitlyn Davis ***3 Stars (PR) I've said this before...I have no problem with love triangles...that being said, this book didn't really have that going on. I didn't feel as strongly for the characters in the end as I probably should have. 7. Love Begins in Hell by Ally Thomas *1 DNF Star This was "Virgin Moon" but slightly different telling. I was interested in the story before and the slight differences in this were not enough to make me read this. 8. Wolf Spell by M.R. Polish Not Interested Arabeth/Esmerelda is kidnapped from her mother's funeral only to be told that she is a witch, her mother is alive...but she's not her real mother anyway. Ara was not pleased at being kidnapped, until Jarak shows up....hot guys fix everything you know. I thought the blurb sounding promising but I struggled to control my eye rolling through the first 3 chapters. 9. Verity by Claire Farrell ***3 Stars (PR) Ok, so the story wasn't so bad...I just wish there was more of it. Instead of why these random werewolves were attacking and who exactly they were after and why we had to read about Dawn flirting with Nathan, Tammie being a bipolar biatch and Perdy's Dad and Grandma being the worst parenting duo ever. ...more |

I gave this 3 Stars because I found a series in it that I would like to continue. 1. In Dusk's Embrace by Isobelle Cate *1 Star Simon is in some kind o I gave this 3 Stars because I found a series in it that I would like to continue. 1. In Dusk's Embrace by Isobelle Cate *1 Star Simon is in some kind of purgatory for mocking fate, Juliana has been mourning her husband for five years. They inexplicably meet and have some instant attraction but I had an issue...Simon asks for the date: "Year?" "Sorry?" She asked in bafflement. Juliana hesitated. "Go on woman! The year!" Juliana stood up "I'm not going to put up with an arrogant bastard such as you" ...umm what just happened? It may be odd for someone to ask the year but why wouldn't you just tell him? And getting a little impatient doesn't really make you arrogant, I don't think. And the next time they meet they have some ghost relations and are in love. 2. Warriors of the Atlantean Empire: The Ensuing War (The Prelude) by C.L. Pardington *1 Star This was just kinda meh. Way too many characters in too short a story. I didn't really care about any of them. 3. Eternal Vows (Ruby Ring #1) by Chrissy Peebles ***3 Stars PR Sarah finds herself in a different world, literally when she is searching for her missing sister. She runs into an incredibly handsome and charming king that seems like he is a jerk but they have some steamy chemistry. I was really enjoying this and then Sarah inexplicable became too stupid to live...but thankfully the book ended with a cliffhanger at that point. 4. Waking Up Dead (Western Werewolf Legend #2) by Catherine Wolffe Not Interested It's tough jumping into a series starting with book 2...but this one seemed especially difficult. It was like you jumped into the series mid chapter and there was no way to go back and re read what you missed. Werewolves, Vampires (that are also Yankees apparently), witches and whatever...I couldn't get through the first chapter because I could make no sense of what was going on. 5. A Grave Exchange by Tara Rose *1 DNF Star So Ivy meets Lucius in a graveyard, she has been dreaming about him and he has been searching for her. She goes off with him and though he insists on explaining to her what is happening she insists on having sex with him. The dialogue was super awkward, to the point that I am still not sure what time period this was set in. And since there wasn't much to the story besides their weird behavior towards each other I decided this just wasn't for me. 6. Tuesday's Child (Psychic Visions #1) ***3 Stars PR Samantha is a psychic has visions of murders...but she is inside the body and mind of those being murdered...She wakes up with physical injuries that are similar to the victims. Brandt is tracking a serial killer and isn't opposed to unconventional ways of getting information, but Sam's abilities are disturbing even to him. As they get closer to finding the killer he also starts to figure out how the police are getting their evidence which puts Sam in danger. I liked the story, I liked the characters, the writing style was ok....but it just kinda dragged in the middle. 7. Virgin Moon by Ally Thomas *1 DNF Star This was weird. Emily is a werewolf who is kidnapped and brought to the demon palace and given as a pet to a vampire. Vincent's father wants him to use Emily and then she will be killed, but Vincent wants to help her. So she throws some knives at him, he calms her down then they do it. Well, not quite, they do everything but actual sex...she wanted to make sure he knew that she was experienced because it's important. 8. Zombified by Lyra Mcken Not Interested I think I am just one of those people who prefer my zombie stories from the human point of view. And even then I'm not so big on the zombie genre. 9. Crush (Crush Saga #1) *1 Star PR Taylor moves to California and runs into the supernatural. Like literally, everywhere. Unbelievable situations, unreasonable reactions...This just didn't have a good story, or good characters, or good dialogue. 10. Vampire in Denial (Family Blood Ties #1) ***3 Stars PR I thought this book was petty strong. This was a quick read and didn't really have a cliff hanger so much as this is literally the first part of the story. I think I may continue this series. 12. Keeper (Part 1) by Tiffany Evans ****4 Stars Taylee is a Drea and her Kember is killed but she believes it was another Kember who did it and she is hell bent on revenge. Standing in her way is Aiden, her new Kember who is determined to keep her safe and maintain an emotional distance. Which is difficult with Taylee since she is just a swirling ball of emotion, mostly anger, but who can really blame her. They start investigating and discover some strange things about who the bad guys might be, Taylee's parentage and why Delmari hid so much from her. I really enjoyed this, I thought Taylee was a good character and I liked her dynamic with Aiden. The story was original and well paced in my opinion. I would have liked a little more detail on their society, like, besides stopping the Rygons from getting too powerful why exactly do the Kembers devote their lives to protecting Drea's... ...more |

Darkangel (Witches of Cleopatra Hill 1) by Christine Pope ***3 Stars Angela is the next Prima of the McCallister clan of witches. Sometime during her 21st year she is supposed to meet her consort who will be her partner and enhance her powers. As her birthday gets closer and closer she starts to lose hope her consort will show up and looks for another option to avoid the evil Wilcox clan that seem determined to bind her to them. This was ok. A pretty interesting story, I liked Angela a lot but it just took forever for anything to happen. I will give the next book a try to see if it has a better pace. 2. Twin Souls (Nevermore 1) by K.A. Poe *1 Star (PR) I got through Chapter 5 and just couldn't go on. Just sooo many issues...What kind of friend upon hearing of their friends abandonment by her remaining parent decides to throw a party...maybe if they were younger I could buy it a little more. Can someone please be proficient at some instrument besides the piano?! Sheesh And in general the story was choppy, the dialogue awkward and ridiculous, the main character vain and snobby but in the guise of sweet and innocent...Just no. 3. The Girl (Guardians 1) Lola St Vil *1 Star (PR) Ok Emmy was ridiculously annoying. 4. Rest for the Wicked (Claire Wiche 1) by Cate Dean **2 Stars Claire is some sort of magical being and has a best friend who is a witch but doesn't have full control of her powers. Now her evil cousin is after Claire and hurting innocent people to get to her. And then there is Marcus, a Jinn who senses Claire is in trouble and wants to help her. As the danger escalates Claire needs to admit that she isn't exactly who they think she is. This was ok, and could have been really good. There just was not any emphasis on explaining anything. Things just happened and reasons and history were just glossed over. This was frustrating because I felt the story had a lot of potential. 5. Drowning Mermaids (Sacred Breath 1) by Nadia Scrieva *1 DNF Star Aazuria is some kind of mermaid princess who killed her father and now lives on land with her 2 sisters and 2 body guards trying to earn money. They do this by working at a strip club, where she meets Captain Trevain Murphy. He hears her adapted story of 3 orphaned girls and offers them use of his home and finances. That's about as far as it got for me, I couldn't stand the way everyone spoke. It sounds like a silly reason to not finish a book but it made any interesting parts of the story just annoying. 6. Wolves (I Bring the Fire 1) by C. Gockel ****4 Stars (PR) Loki finds himself on Midgard, and he needs to search for his sons who may have been lost because of Odin. Loki is very jaded in this book but it backs up his attitude with cutaway stories from his past. Amy, is pretty sure everything that's happening is real even if it is insane...and despite her best efforts she feels for Loki and does want to help him. 7. The Witch Hunter (1) by Nicole R. Taylor *1 DNF Star I was hoping the comparisons to The Vampire Diaries were exaggerated...they were not. The gist of it is that Zac (the Damon of this story) kills some old vampire that comes to town and upsets some ancient witch. So he and his brother Sam (Stefan) ask their witch friend Gabby (Bonnie) to summon some ancient witch hunter to help them. And that's about all I got out of this, I couldn't get past the similarities and the writing style could not distract me enough to finish this one. 8. Beyond the Fortune Teller's Tent by Kristy Tate * DNF Star I'm not a big fan of time travel and I don't think this particular story was told very well and the characters were very shallow and didn't add much emotion. 9. Nolander (Emanations 1) by Becca Mills ***3 Stars (PR) I'm a little torn on this one. I did enjoy it overall but I'm sure I don't understand everything that went on. Beth has had panic attacks her whole life and she ends up meeting some people with "gifts" to see otherworldly things. And these new friends tell her that her panic attacks are probably because she is one of them but has no training. There was a lot of distrust among all of the characters and you don't really know who's good or who is lying, and it just seemed like every chapter had a new facet to the story but none of them were whole. I think I will continue this series just to see where it goes. 10. The Medium (Emily Chambers 1) by C.J. Archer ***3 Stars So, Emily can see ghosts. She conducts séances for people along with her sister Celia. While at one of these séances Celia unwittingly releases a shape shifting demon. Jacob, a special more solid ghost, has been assigned to help Rid the world of this demon. As they investigate further they find that there are many things in play and they're not sure who is pulling the strings or what the ultimate goal is. This was ok. I liked Emily for the most part, though she was a tad immature for my tastes. Jacob, Celia and George were ok characters but I don't feel like there was enough development of them or the relationships. Jacob and Emily being "in love" after 2 days kind of killed things for me, I wish there were more information about the afterlife, the summoned demon, even who Emily's father might be. The romance was just forced and I would have preferred a slower development, especially with 2 other books in this series. 11. Dream Student (Dream 1) by J.J. DiBenedetto *1 DNF Star Sara has been having strange dreams and terrible nightmares. The strange seems to bring her into someone elses dream and it happens to be about her. Things get more strange when she sees this dreamboy in real life. This encounter is when I decided this book wasn't for me. Sara is really aggressive towards Brian for some reason and basically emasculates him because he is weirded out about the shared dream thing. I think his reaction was reasonable and she was being a complete biatch. 12. Deception (Transformed 1) by Stacy Claflin *1 DNF Star Alexis is overlooked because of her beautiful and talented younger sister. 13. The Black Parade (1) by Kyoko M **2 DNF Stars I did not finish reading this but I thought the idea behind the story was very interesting, hence the 2 Stars. Jordan has to help souls cross over as penance for accidentally shooting a Seer (Someone who did what she is doing now)...she has a quota and a deadline being tracked by the archangel Gabriel. The last soul she is helping is a poltergeist named Michael and his case is proving to be difficult to solve. I didn't get far into Michael's story, I couldn't stand the 2 of them together; the forced banter, awkward spouting of movie quotes...I just couldn't get myself to care what happened to Michael so all of their sleuthing just fell flat for me. 14. The Thought Readers (Mind Dimensions 1) by Dima Zales _Not Interested Based on the blurb and the 1st chapter, I have no desire to read this book. Being inside the main character's head for a few pages made me hope for his demise in any way possible....so, not for me. ...more |
