An interesting enough premise, but the text is primarily dull dialogue and characters I can't tell apart which makes for very confusing (and boring) conversations. Don't care who the killer is, and not happy the main character is being forced to investigate and use her power by family. Not for me....more

I don't generally enjoy reading mysteries (I do watch a ton of them, tho), but I'm plotting one to write and wanted to get a general idea of the written form so I was ecstatic to find this unique nerdy mystery that was right up my [artist's] alley. I've actually attended the San Diego Comic-Con a few times so I enjoyed the return to the venue, altho sadly very little page time was spent actually at the convention center and instead we gallivanted about San Diego (in excessively descriptive detail) for mystery solving and drinking pleasure. It was interesting to see the con from a professional artist's point of view and some of the extra things they get up to during con week, but it proved to be way too much setting description for me (I can't really picture it). As for the mystery aspect, I followed it for the most part until the end when everything came together including my confusion (I struggle to keep up with written mysteries, one of the many reasons I don't read them), but I did call the ultimate villain (I'm always good at that). The characters were interesting and generally fun despite their problems, but their multiple soapbox moments were heavy-handed. While I understood the excessive strong language and sexual descriptions and comments given the characters' lifestyles and con setting, it did wear on my delicate sensibilities, but for the most part I enjoyed the book, even if the climax dragged out a little too long. Overall tho I'm really glad that this geek mystery exists for the likes of me, and hope that more like it will be published someday....more
