Just letting you guys know I'm a super slow reader but I will try my hardest to get more than one book in a week for you. I read a lot of comics and manga as well but it doesn't count. Sorry about that!

Loving all of these doggies you guys are talking about! Joy- I love the name (big thumbs up). I once had an invisible dog named Sirius because I was not allowed to have a real one in my parents' house. And I was also 22 when I had this invisible dog :-)

Caroline (carolinet12) | 249 comments Hi guys !!

For the BOMs points.. I reserved all 3 books for may at my library but I don't know if I will get them on time. I'll keep you informed when I get confirmation and will reserve spots for writing DQs if I still can :)

Have a great weekend! ... It is raining here in Montreal *Yawns and takes a nap

message 28: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Hello, Everyone! I'm here if you need me (PM for fastest results). Otherwise, have a great game!

message 29: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments I volunteered to write DQs for A Gentleman in Moscow and Strange the Dreamer, since those are ones I've been keen to read anyway. :) We'll see if I get them though because a lot of other people already signed up.

message 30: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinet12) | 249 comments Thanks Joy !!!! :)

message 31: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Hello Dawn and Kim! Welcome!

Thanks Joy! And Caroline if you end up getting the other one just let us know!

We are still missing two people so I will give them until Wednesday to check in before I notify Kelly and the admins.

message 32: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments In the mean time, people should volunteer to write BOM DQs if you can, because they're going to randomize who gets to write them from the sign-up list, and we get extra points for people writing them. :)

message 33: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Okay great! I didn't see that post Joy, but just went back and saw they said more than one person can volunteer. I volunteered for Strange the Dreamer cause it is available with no wait list at my library but the others I doubt I will get in time.

message 34: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 69 comments 1. the link and name to your shelf you will be using for Tower Teams: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

2. Your name/ what you like to be called:
Alexis

3. Where you are from and what times you are usually on Goodreads:
I'm from Dallas, Texas and live in the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) metroplex. I'm normally on in the evening, but occasionally during the day.

4. What is your favorite book/author/genre?
My favorite genre is memoirs. Don't get me wrong, I love fiction and nonfiction. But it's cool to understand someone else's thoughts. I love "Let's Pretend this never happened" by Jenny Lawson. The way her brain works and how she writes is similar to how I think. Some people find her writing hard to follow, but you should definitely check it out if you like funny books and aren't offended by cursing.

5. Something interesting you want us to know!
I'm kind of an odd ball. I got married in February of this year and am learning how to live with someone. My husband and I met playing D&D. I'm a nerd and love learning. I study neuroscience and love brains and psychology. I am also a yoga instructor and dancer and actress (I haven't been in anything big). I love making new friends and getting book recommendations, so I'll gladly chat with and add anyone from this group. :)

message 35: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinet12) | 249 comments I am still waiting for the 3 books for BOMs at my library... I don't think I'll be able to do DQs for The Circle :(... *fingers crossed for next one !

message 36: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments Welcome Alexis! I also study neuroscience! That's super awesome.

message 37: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Welcome Alexis!

We are only waiting on one teammate now!

message 38: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 69 comments I'm new to NBRC and it's my first time doing Tower Teams, could someone tell me what BOMs and DQs are? I'm guessing DQs are discussion questions?

message 39: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments BOM stands for Book of the Month, normally there are 3-4 each month, you can see what the BOMs are on the NBRC homepage under what we are reading/currently reading and upcoming.

DQ's are discussion questions. People will write DQ's each day for the current BOM

Hope that helps!

message 40: by Alexis (new)

Yes! That helps a lot! Thank you! And they can keep track of that stuff and points without us doing anything special? (Other than saving the read books to our tower team shelf)

message 41: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments Yep. There are fancy spreadsheets and tracking threads that will be used to tally points.

message 42: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 69 comments Joy wrote: "Yep. There are fancy spreadsheets and tracking threads that will be used to tally points."

Well that's cool. Thanks :)

message 43: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) I haven't looked at the BOM. I have so many books that if I don't own the book I am trying to avoid borrowing any from the library besides the one for the book club I am in.

I am currently participating in a Bingo so I have a list of books I am trying to finish up for that challenge. Not sure when that will end but once it does than I might be able to participate in the BOM and and try to do DQ. I really hate trying to think up DQ.

It is great to see everyone chatting. If I don't respond or check in for a while don't think I am not here. I sometimes don't have a lot of time to post. I love seeing all the dog pictures.

message 44: by Reed (last edited Apr 30, 2017 07:14AM) (new)

Reed Raab (reedraab) | 329 comments Gah! I thought the challenge started tomorrow. I have to wait 4 more days!! Very excited to participate in this challenge with you guys :-)

I'm going to start this gigantic Sherlock volume on the 4th and read a bit at night while still reading regular books during my commute so hopefully at the end of the challenge we can use the big volume for 130 points!

As for the May BOMS- I can participate in Strange the Dreamer and A Gentleman in Moscow as long as no one takes them out of the library before they start. Someone has The Circle right now so I don't think I will get it in time.

message 45: by Alexis (last edited Apr 30, 2017 10:21AM) (new)

Alexis | 69 comments I started The Circle! I just have to make sure I finish it after the start date so that it counts for us!

I'll try to read other BOM books as well. But my goal is to read It by Stephen King which is over 1000 pages, American Gods, and maybe Sherlock holmes also. Reed, if I read Sherlock Holmes, then maybe we can discuss it! I just have to get the book first.

message 46: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments It by Stephen King is fantastic! I just finished it last night. :) You will enjoy it.

message 47: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Only a couple more days until we start! What is everyone reading right now?

message 48: by SthTx Dawn (new)

SthTx Dawn (dawn99) | 226 comments i recently read a ton of sir arthur conan doyle's sherlock holmes stories..and even recently read The Lost World (not Holmes but still fantastic) all of which i loved and recommend. You can never go wrong with Stephen King of course or Neil Gaiman.. a couple of my favorite authors. I am finishing up Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne and The Woman who Stole My Life by Marion Keyes.. For another challenge I had Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell lined up so i'll read that for some big book pts.. Unfortunately I can't get my hands on any of the bom books.. sad face... maybe next time around..

message 49: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinet12) | 249 comments I am reading Six of Crows right now and I'll be finished before May fourth !

I have already 3 other books I borrowed from the library that I'll start reading for the challenge:
Crooked Kingdom
Crown of Midnight and
Heir of Fire

So that should do for first books :) !!

I never read Sherlock Holmes books though.. you guys are making me want to start ! lol

message 50: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra Casiello (apetrino1) | 320 comments Let me know how you like Six of Crows, I have been wanting to read it but have gotten mixed reviews!
