THEORY :
Colpitt oscillator is almost similar to that of the Hartley oscillator with the difference
that in this oscillator capacitor is splitted up in C1 and C2 ,and inductor is L1 in the tank circuit.
Circuit is shown in figure. Q is NPN type transistor. R
1
, R
2
are the voltage divider type bias
resistors. R
E
is the resistance connected in the emitter circuit for bias stabilization. C
E
is the
bypass capacitor. Voltage developed across capacitor C
2
is applied to the base through coupling
capacitor Cc
1
. Output is taken through coupling capacitor Cc
2
.
Frequency of oscillator is given by f

Where

Where L = L
1
+ L
2
If L is in henry , C is in Farad , f will be in Hz

PROCEDURE :
1) Prepare CRO for operation.
2) Connect the circuit as shown in figure.
3) Apply +9 V supply from the power supply.
4) Connect the CRO probes across the output terminals.
5) Obtain the waveform on the screen.
6) Measure the time period T of one complete wave and calculate the frequency of
oscillation.
7) Calculate the theoretical value of frequency of oscillation.
8) Switch off the power supply.
