World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March 2015

The world is full of books and books are full of worlds! We really want pupils to explore new worlds by reading books
written by authors which they have not read before! On Thursday 5th March 2015, we would like all pupils to dress up as a
character from a book written by an author who they have not read before. Of course to do this they will need to have
read the book or listened to the book. Ideally, this book would be a book from our school library! Why? Firstly, we have so
many fantastic books in our library! Secondly, we would like pupils to bring the book with them on Thursday 5th March and
encourage another pupil in school to read the same book. Obviously, if the book is from our school library then sharing the
book is much easier!

Masterchef Competition
On the Thursday before half term, Year 1/2 and Year 2 took part
in a Junior MasterChef competition in school. As part of this
competition, the children had to research, design and make
dishes that were tasty, appetising and healthy for the parents to
judge. The Year 1/2 class created fruit salad, smoothies, fruit
kebabs and fruit jelly, having tasted a range of different fruits in
order to decide which ingredients they would like to put in their
dish. Year 2s tasted several different dishes from different
manufacturers and thought carefully about what flavours worked
well together. They then designed their own flavour-packed
smoothies, pasta salads and fruit salads.
The children practised peeling, chopping, squeezing and grating
in the run up to the Junior MasterChef event and put these skills
into practice on the big day. We were very proud of their
wonderful, tasty dishes and the parents seemed to really enjoy
sampling them. They also make some super chefs hats and
labels. When the voting slips were counted, in Year 1/2 the lime
jelly topped with a range of different fruits was the most popular
among family and friends congratulations! While in Y2 the
purple berry Yummy Smoothie, the Black Dragon Pasta Salad and
the Superchefs Fruit Salad were the winners in their respective
categories. Well done!
Thank you to everybody who came to support our Junior
MasterChef event; we had a brilliant afternoon!

Congratulations
Congratulations to all the Key Stage 2 pupils who have recently
completed their Learning to Ride or Bikeability Level 1
qualifications.

Multiskills Cancelled on 6th March

Please accept my apologies that there will be no Multiskills on
Friday 6th March. This is due to a one off change to my own
childcare arrangements.

Yoga in Year 1/2

In Year 1 / 2 this week, we have been learning Yoga with Miss

Jay. We now know different poses and are starting to use these to
tell a story. We are enjoying this Zen like activity and it is helping with
our balance and stretching.

Maths Booklet for Parents

Helping your child with Maths is a very useful resource, a
booklet designed by the Exmouth Learning Community which will
be sent home in childrens book bags this week. Once parents
have had the opportunity to read through the booklet, Mrs
Harrison will be available in the ICT suite next Thursday 5th
March from 3-3.30pm to respond to any queries.

Can you help us develop our reading?

We are constantly striving to develop in every child a lifelong love
of reading. We are currently working towards this goal and as part
of this we have a team of volunteers who help to change reading
books in our Reception and KS1 classes from 9-9.30am each day.
However we could do with a few more helpers! We particularly
need your support on a Monday to help change Rec/KS1 reading
books after drop off. If you feel that you are able to spare half an
hour each week to support the children in this way then please
Mrs Lewis know by the end of this week ([email protected]). Your help would be greatly appreciated
and make a huge difference to the children and their reading
development.
