This is an individual assignment - You are required to complete both parts A and B
Part A (80% Marks) Only use times new roman.
You are required to prepare a report (2500+/- 10% words) and critically review and reflect
on the reasons why organizations are using Project Management to achieve their strategic
objectives. ( Refer to Segisphere)
Use relevant example of successful companies doing it.

Part B (20% marks) Project name: Defining the project plan of Refurbishment of UOS
(whatever ) business school .
You are a member of the University Executive and have been requested to prepare a
project plan for the refurbishment of the Business School student lounge and dining
room.
The work must start on the 9 July 2015 and be complete and available for use by the 5th
September 2015 when students return for the new academic year. A penalty clause of
10,000 per day of delay beyond the 5 th September is written into the contract.
All of the information on project activities and planned durations are shown in the table
provided. Using Microsoft Project prepare the following.

1) A one page Gantt Chart to establish Start and Finish times and Total Slack, add title
and insert your name and student number into the legend box print landscape on
one page.
2) A Network Diagram, insert your name and student number into the legend box
print on one page including title and legend. (Created by Microsoft project).
3) Using activity numbers determine the critical path and project duration. (Explain in
theory) A : the critical path is ID 9 , ID 1 and
4) If the project starts on the 9 July 2015 what is the earliest date it can be completed.
Answer: 7th Sept 2015.
5) If any of the following events happened individually, what would be the effect on the
duration of the whole project? Explain the reasons why.
a) Gas Fire commissioning is delayed by 15 days.
b) Applying 30 rolls of Wallpaper now takes 3 days longer than planned. ( there
is a change in finish date because it fall under critical path)
c) Delivery of Furniture is delayed by 2 days ( it does not change the complete
date of project because it has 4 slack days ).

For this case assume the following:


1) The following holidays are observed. Last Monday in August for the Bank holiday
2) The contractors work a 5 day week Monday through Friday
A: there is a two days delay in finishing the project because of the public holiday.

Assignment presentation and assessment


The answers to both parts must be incorporated into one report .
Part B may be included in the appendices,
The criteria for assessing the report will be:
Report presentation (20%)
The extent to which the assignment represents an effective report. This will be
judged on:
Appearance: Is a word count included at the end of the report? is it within the
specified amount? Is the text double spaced?
Structure: Does the report follow the conventions of the format? Does is have a
clear introduction, explaining how it answer the questions? Do the sections of the
report develop ideas in a logical sequence? Are diagrams used
Spelling and grammar: Are all words spelled correctly and is the meaning of
sentences clear?
Referencing: Have appropriate references been included in the report. Has a
recognised referencing system been used for notation? (see relevant section in the
Guide to Basic Study Skills)

Use of relevant theory (40%)


Has the right theoretical content been chosen as the basis for answering the
questions? Is there evidence of the use of course notes and books and further
reading? Is the academic theory selected significant to the questions?
Analysis (40%)
This measures the extent to which students develop a structured argument for the
points they make, by combining relevant theory with the information provided in the
questions.
Part A of your report should be submitted to Turnitin and a copy of the receipt
attached to your assignment submitted to the Prospect Gateway
Any work submitted is subject to the University's rules and procedures
governing infringement of assessment regulations.

Individual Assignment

First Class (70% 100%)


A creative and original response to the question. Critically reflecting on
perceived theory and experiences. Wide and appropriate use of sources (theory
and practice) based on reading and experiences. Answer written fluently, with
evidence of a highly developed capacity to structure work systematically and
argue logically.
Grade B (55% 69%)
Comprehensive knowledge of concepts and theories. Appropriate application of
theory and experience to the question answered. Ability to inter-relate concepts
and ideas. Some originality in approach and awareness of scope and
limitations. Answer systematically structured and coherent.
Grade C (40%-54%)
Evidence of knowledge of concepts and theories. Attempts to relate and balance
theory and practice. Main issues addressed appropriately. Mainstream texts
and lecture notes used .Limited evidence of wider reading. Work presented in a
structured form but arguments weak in places.
