IMPORTANT NOTES
This operating instruction is only valid for pantograph disconnectors with single pole
operating mechanism.
Read these operating instructions carefully before beginning installation.
Installation must only be carried out by personnel familiar with these operating instructions.
Failure to comply with warnings and other alerts can cause death, serious bodily injury and
extensive damage to property and the environment.
Assignment of drive to the corresponding control gear can be taken from the information on
the delivery note.
Only for disconnectors with rated voltage of 123kV!
The red adjustment device 4.30 (Fig. 6) which is part of the delivery has to be removed after
the motor drive is coupled to the driving shaft and immediately before the first switching
operation is performed.
Adjustment of travel stops of motor drive and swinging bracket must be carried out when
switched "ON" in accordance with Section 4.8.
Failure to comply with adjustment instructions can cause damage of gear components of the
motor drive due to different positions of travel stops in the support frame and in the motor
drive caused by torsional stresses.
2.1 General
The disconnectors comply with the latest issues of IEC 62271-102.
Subject to changes which are made in the interest of further development.
No claims can be made on the basis of data, figures, and descriptions.
Errors expected.
The device, designed with corrosion protection in mind and for outdoor installation, consists
of three individual poles. Above the individual poles there are mating contacts suspended
from the overhead lines. The mating contacts and conducting paths may optionally be
equipped with special-type contact strips of type LKK which enable the switching of bus-
transfer currents. These contact strips may also be retrofitted during operation without
having to readjust the conducting path of the pantograph disconnector. Each pole of the
pantograph disconnector is actuated by a motor drive.
The pantograph disconnector poles are delivered disassembled in subassemblies:
Intermediate base plate or intermediate base structure (Subassembly 1)
Current paths, complete (Subassembly 4)
Mating contacts (Subassembly 4)
Post insulators (Subassembly 3)
Rotary insulators (Subassembly 3)
Motor drive with clamp coupling and coupling tube (Subassembly 5)
4 Installation
4.1 General
Installation must only be carried out by personnel familiar with these operating instructions.
Risks to erection personnel may be caused by
electricity
falling and/or tilting or other moving parts.
CAUTION! Electricity there is risk of electric shock and burning due to
electric arc.
The poles of the disconnectors, possibly with mounted integral earthing switches, are
assembled and preadjusted in the factory. Installation on site consists of the following main
activities:
setting up and assembling the poles,
mounting the drives,
coupling the drive linkage, and adjusting.
The serial numbers of the disconnectors are indicated on the name plates. The name
plates of the disconnectors are located on the base plates of the poles, those of motor
drives inside the drive housing.
When assembling the poles, make sure to put together subassemblies with the same serial
number for each pole.
CAUTION! Before making the connection, clean live connections with a
brush and apply a slight film of "RIVOLTA S.K.D. 3602"
grease.
4.5 Installation
To lift pantograph system put transport ropes (hemp or plastic ropes) around the gear box
4.1 according to Fig. 5. When lifting, make sure that transport ropes do not damage
pantograph arms. All attachment and flange surfaces of insulators shall be cleaned before
mounting components.
4.5.1 Assembly
Before starting assembly of the pantograph disconnector, following preliminary operations
shall be executed:
Check, whether four holes in the upper plate of supporting member are in
alignment with the longitudinal axis of the bus bar.
Check vertical axis of supporting members and correct, if necessary.
Check height of overhead lines.
Check axes distances of poles.
Now, assembly of pantograph disconnector may start in right pole order a, b, c according to
the dimensional drawing and name plate data by below-described steps.
Attach intermediate base plate with centering plate (available as an option) or the
intermediate base structure to the supporting member align mounting boreholes
centrically to each other and align with a water level. Install the coupling tube
through the borehole of the centering plate (only when the centering plate is scope
of supply).
Place supporting insulator 3.1 and rotary insulator 3.2 on an even surface. Lift the
pantograph system 4.0 by way of crane, put it on the supporting insulator and rotary
insulator and then screw it to the support frame 4.1.
Tie supporting insulator 3.1 and rotary insulator 3.2 together using a suitable
intermediate layer (as for instance a log) in order to prevent inadmissible load of the
bearing point of the support frame by deviation of the rotary insulator. Lift the
pantograph system 4.0 including the screwed-on insulators.
By use of a clamp coupling 5.1 screw the connecting tube 5.4 together with the
base flange of the rotary insulator.

The values in the table above apply to all bolted connections for which no tightening
torque is specified in the operating instructions. For all factory made bolted
connections the specified lubricating grease is used.
The mechanical and electrical part of the drive are housed together in a corrosion-
resistant aluminium enclosure.
The enclosure offers protection against dust and splash water in accordance with
IP 55 IEC 60529.
All built-in parts are sufficiently protected against corrosion by surface treatment or
manufactured using corrosion-proof materials. The bearings of the gear shafts are
lubricated for life and require low maintenance.
To prevent condensation, the enclosure is ventilated and equipped with a heater. If
implemented in areas with a very aggressive atmosphere, the vent holes may be
closed and only the heater can be operated. The cable entry panel is normally not
drilled. If required as a special design, the cable entry panel may also be equipped
with the essential metric cable glands. In the event secondary cables are installed,
the cable entry panel can be opened up after unscrewing the fastening screws.
Usually, the panel door is mounted with hinges on the left hand side. If necessary,
you can change the side the door is mounted on, i.e. right hand side, without
requiring any additional components.
Motor
The motor is either a DC series-wound motor or AC single-phase motor or AC
three-phase motor.
Control
2 control contactors K1 and K2 for control with changing the rotation direction of
the motor: The contactors are switched off in their end positions by contacts of the
auxiliary switch S1.
The auxiliary switch S1 serves to indicate positions and to lock against other
switching equipment. Moreover, it takes over switching-off the drive motor.
The following contact types are available for the auxiliary switch S1:
Type Function
(Refer to Fig. 3 as well)
1 NC contact
2 NO contact
The number and application of the contacts can be seen in the corresponding order
documentation.
Secondary wiring
The secondary wiring of the motor drive required for corresponding operating
conditions can be implemented by applying the connecting cable to the terminal strip
at the installation and by correspondingly bridging individual terminals (wire jumpers
1.5 mm2 or chain bridges).
CAUTION:
In case of arrangements which are implemented with self-locking and separate motor
and control supply circuits it is possible that the protection relay for the motor voltage
may be actuated, and if both circuits are separately fuse-protected, the control
voltage is still present and stored control commands stay in self-locking. When the
motor voltage returns, the motor drive would start up automatically.
5. Storage
Caution: Motor drives shall generally be stored in dry places, since during storage in
humid places or outdoor corrosion damages may occur.
Electrical heating shall be put into operation immediately after installation.
When attaching the motor drive to the base structure of the switching device or to
brackets, make sure that there is an even support surface to protect the drive
enclosure from distortion.
The delivered motor drive will be mounted on the base structure of the switching
device or on the bracket using two hexagon head screws M16.
MA-6 and MA-7 type motor drives are delivered in OFF Position.
The removable cable entry panel provided in the bottom plate of the motor drive can
be equipped, if necessary, with holes to accommodate cable glands and the motor
drive shall be hooked up according to the corresponding wiring diagram.
8. Maintenance
C A U T I O N ! Before starting work, familiarize yourself with prescribed safety
precautions.
Under normal operating conditions, maintenance shall be implemented about every
eight (8) years.
Maintenance includes following activities:
Visual check for damage by inadmissible external influences.
Check and retighten all screwed connections using the indicated torques.
Retighten connecting screws on terminal strip.
Check and repair paint finish, if necessary.
Check all electrical control features.
Test switching.
Check, whether air vents on the drives are clean.
