“Smile Remodeling” is the dramatic enhancement of a person’s overall smile, consisting primarily of

model of your teeth. A template is then made, where you can then “try” the smile design in the mouth.
This allows for you and your doctor to see what the final restorations will look like. The template can
be used for bonding tooth-colored filling material to teeth or to fabricate crowns and veneers in the
exact way you like.”

Plan
Based on the results of your individual treatment plan, a sequence of custom-made, clear aligners will

created from a smooth, comfortable, BPA-free plastic that will not irritate your cheeks and gums like
traditional metal braces can often do. You simply wear them during the day and easily remove them
when you eat or brush and oss your teeth. As you wear each of the aligner sets, your teeth will gently

CEREC crown is made entirely from
porcelain, and contains no metal, this

During the CEREC process, Dr. Herbert
will photograph the a ected tooth and
uploads it as a three-dimensional digital
model. Our software will then design the
suitable crown using the uploaded
images. At that point, our milling unit
will construct the crown on-site. We’ll

The Hows and Whys of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers consist of several thin ceramic layers, which replace original tooth enamel, and an
adhesive layer. To apply a veneer, a very small amount of the original tooth enamel must be removed,
typically less than a millimeter. This is necessary to create a space for the porcelain veneer to t within
the mouth accurately restore natural tooth function while creating an even better appearance than the
original tooth.
The bond between the original tooth and the porcelain veneer is crucial because it provides the esthetic
perfection desired and provides a strong bond which is essential for correct veneer function. A light-
sensitive resin is placed between the original tooth and the veneer and then hardened using a special
curing light.
Porcelain veneers are a popular option for correcting imperfections where the original tooth has
developed poor color, shape, and contours. It is also a good choice for fractured teeth, gaps between
teeth, and in some cases where the tooth position is compromised and there are minor bite-related
problems. For some people, super cial stains do not respond well to tooth whitening or bleaching. In
these situations, a porcelain veneer may be the best option.

Lumineers® are an alternative to

porcelain
veneers. They are
ultra thin
(approximately
0.2 mm) and
highly
translucent,
which allows them to replicate the
natural appearance of tooth enamel.
Traditional veneers are much thicker,
requiring the reshaping of your original
tooth structure. Lumineers are so thin
that little to no tooth reduction.
Additionally, the durability of Lumineers
allows them to resist wear and remain
resilient to last over 20 years.
Lumineers® are a minimally invasive
procedure, often require no shots, and
little or no drilling of sensitive tooth
structure. And they’re reversible, so you
have nothing to lose and a beautiful
smile to gain.
The procedure typically requires only
two visits to your dentist. During your
rst visit a precision mold will be taken.
You and your dentist will choose the
right shade for your Lumineers. On your
second visit, your custom designed
Lumineers are checked for t and
shade. Then, they’re painlessly attached,
which takes about one hour.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is a completely pain-free
way to reshape and permanently whiten
your teeth. Because they are ultra-thin,
in most cases you will get a perfect t
without shots or grinding down of the
original tooth structure. Once the
procedure is completed, there is no post
placement discomfort or sensitivity,
which means your Lumineers will look
natural and feel comfortable from the
moment they are placed.
Are Lumineers a substitute for
Orthodontics?
In many cases, Lumineers can be a
substitute for braces. Through a free
consultation, your dentist at Prescott
Dental Arts can help you determine
whether orthodontics is necessary. If
you do not have a severe alignment
problem, Lumineers will reshape your
teeth, making them look straighter and
more uniform, as well as whiter,
something you don’t get with braces.
How long will Lumineers last?
Clinical testing has proven that

You already know that whitening works, but do you know how?
Stains on teeth can be classi ed in one of two ways: extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains appear on the
surface of your teeth. Intrinsic stains live between the microcracks in your enamel and deep within your
dentin (the layer of your tooth underneath your enamel).
Whitening toothpastes and mouth rinses may be able to remove some of the extrinsic stains on your
teeth. But only teeth whitening agents can remove the stubborn extrinsic stains and the unsightly
intrinsic stains that cause your teeth to look discolored.
Opalescence gels contain an active whitening ingredient
(either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) that
penetrates your enamel to get to discolored molecules.
Oxygen molecules from the whitening agents react with the
discolored molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that
hold them together. The oxygen molecules spread, whitening
the entire tooth. As a result, you are left with a brighter,
whiter smile.
Opalescence tooth whitening gel contains PF (potassium
nitrate and uoride). Potassium nitrate has been shown to
help reduce sensitivity. Fluoride has been shown to help
reduce caries and strengthen enamel. Together they help to
improve the overall health of the teeth.

If you have crooked teeth, misaligned
bite, under bite or overbite, dental
braces may the right solution to help
straighten your teeth. At Prescott Dental
Arts, we will take x-rays, pictures and
impressions of your teeth, which will be
used to create digital 3D models. These
images of your teeth will provide an
exact treatment plan, including the
precise movements of your teeth, and
will display the approximate length of
treatment. Dr. Herbert will perform a
clinical exam to discuss the dental
options and help determine the best
choice for you.

Some solutions of braces may consist of
bands, wires, and other xed or
removable corrective appliances. We
also provide clear braces as a leading
edge solution, in which Dr. Herbert will

Benefits of Braces
In their entirety, braces work by applying
continuous pressure over a period of
time to slowly move your teeth in a
speci c direction. As the teeth move, the
tooth also changes shape as pressure is
applied.
Braces are made up of brackets are the

small squares that are bonded directly
to the front of each tooth with a special
dental bonding agent or are attached to
orthodontic bands. Brackets act like
handles, holding the arch wires that
move the teeth. There are several types
of brackets, including stainless steel and
tooth-colored ceramic or plastic, which
are often selected because they’re less
obvious. Occasionally, brackets are
cemented to the back of teeth, in order
to hide them from view. Orthodontic
bands are stainless steel, clear, or tooth-
colored materials that are cemented
with dental bonding agents or cement to
teeth. They wrap around each tooth to
provide an anchor for the brackets. The
clear or tooth-colored bands are more
cosmetically appealing options and are
higher in cost than stainless steel. They
are not used in all patients. Some
people have only brackets and no
bands.
There are also newer mini-braces, which
are much smaller than traditional
braces, these may be an option for some
patients. Dr. Herbert will discuss the
various types of braces with you and
determine which might be the best
option for your correction and dental
health.
Does the Age Affect the Success of
Braces?
The functional process used to
reposition your teeth with braces is the
same at any age. The bene ts of these
treatments are available to both
children and adults who wish to improve
their appearance and bite. The main
di erences between treatments in
adults and children is that certain
corrections in adults may require more
than braces alone and the treatments
may take longer as adult bones are no
longer growing.

On the surface, cosmetic dentistry is
related to the appearance of teeth and
smile, by creating white teeth, or even
whole new teeth in general which may
not appear to be that complicated.
However, cosmetic dentistry requires a
good eye, a disciplined understanding of
dental anatomy, and a mastery of dental
materials. Beyond that, the dentist must
be able to communicate his or her vision
to a laboratory technician, a key player
in the comprehension of any smile
transformation. Though cosmetic
dentistry is not an acknowledged
specialty within the dental profession, it
takes years of extensive study and
training to be able to perform the many
cosmetic dental procedures now
available to the highest standards.
Cosmetic vs Restorative Dentistry
There’s an overlap between the two
elds but the focus is di erent, along
with the level of expertise. The cosmetic
dentist goes beyond restoring an
individual’s teeth to their proper
function, seeking to attain the most ideal
outcome according to the patient’s
de nition of a perfect smile. This
involves a high level of skill with even
the slightest details, such as how much
of your tooth should be displayed in a
specific smile.
Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments
All cosmetic dentistry treatments

Cosmetic treatments include:
Teeth Whitening: A relatively
inexpensive way to brighten your smile,
whitening teeth can be accomplished at
home or in the dentist’s chair. There are
many products and methods from which
to choose.
Composite Bonding: Tooth-colored
composite resin attached to the teeth
can improve the appearance and
strength of chipped teeth. These
procedures require very little
preparation (drilling) of the tooth.
Porcelain & Composite Veneers:
Designed to substitute for tooth enamel,
veneers are hard, thin shells of tooth-
colored material that can mask a variety
of dental imperfections.
Porcelain Crowns: Heavily damaged
teeth can be covered with natural-
looking porcelain crowns, which replace
more natural tooth structure than
veneers.
Porcelain Bridgework: A missing tooth
can be replaced with porcelain
bridgework that is attached to the
natural teeth on either side of the space.
Dental Implants: Usually made of
titanium, an implant is used to replace
the root portion of a missing tooth. The
implant is tted with a crown to create a
natural-looking replacement for the
entire tooth.
Inlays & Onlays: In certain cases, llings
can be fabricated from porcelain or
composite materials in a dental
laboratory to more closely match the
color of a tooth. When applied to the
inside of the tooth, they are referred to
as “inlays.” Attached to the biting
surface, they are known as “onlays”
Tooth-Colored Fillings: Gone are the
days when a lling has to be obvious
and unsightly. Tooth-colored llings are
barely noticeable.
Clear Orthodontic Aligners: Many adults,
as well as some teenagers, are opting for
clear orthodontic aligners, instead of
metal braces, to straighten their teeth.
Cosmetic Gum Surgery: Minor surgery
can reshape gum tissue to give it a more
leveled appearance.
Tooth Contouring & Reshaping: Cosmetic
dentists can use a drill or laser to
smooth out or reshape teeth.
