Research and Teaching Experience

Currently, I am working on new topologies for grid-connected converters for STATCOM
application. Aiming at a modular configuration, the main focus of the project is on the
ability of the converter to exchange energy between the phase-legs of the converter, thus
facilitating its operation under unbalanced grids and at the same time allow the
integration of energy storage. This involves modulation, control design and mathematical
modeling to avoid the risk of instability in those converters. During my Ph.D. I have
worked on control and modulation of two well-known converter configurations known as
star/delta cascaded H-bridge converters for STATCOM applications. This requires
modeling, control and experimental test for these types of converter. Besides, I am
involved in teaching M.Sc. courses such as Application of Power Electronics in Power
Systems, Electric Drives and supervising various M.Sc. students.
Previously, I have been working on Z-source Multilevel Converters for photovoltaic grid
connection applications at ABB Corporate research. Moreover, I have been involved in
teaching various undergraduate courses such as Circuit Theory, Electrical Machines at
Isfahan University of Technology.
